Stuff...really good stuff

1. The gym was really crowded yesterday and I had to wait for machines that I wanted. Don't like that. LOL. But I managed to get on the machines and get my good workout in.

2. Watching biggest loser Very unhappy that the red team is not sending someone home. I do not like her I do not like her By the way I do not like her. Sorry if that was a spoiler on the biggest loser.

3. My brain started to feel like mush today. So I stopped doing the computer work, and started doing some physical work. It really helped me feel better about myself and I didn't eat anything over what I had already planned to eat. Yay me. LOL!

4. Tried a new recipe today for dinner. I did not get the family's approval before I made it. But they liked it anyway. I did learn that I need to add a little bit more liquid to it because it was really dry. It was black bean chicken. It's in the spark recipe list. Very good! leftovers for me tomorrow!

5. DH started the weight loss contest at our gym today. Part of The reason the gym is so busy. LOL! He is a true competitor and make sure he weighed as much as he could yesterday. He drank water late in the evening, and he even had a Pepsi before you left. He lost 10 pounds overnight! I'm sure everyone else is working the system too. I know I would! LOL!

    This is really, really good stuff! Way to work it on the exercise. Waiting can be a pain but there is always something productive to do while waiting. Jumping jacks, walk in place,
jump rope. Whatever you're up for.
Glad to see your dh is jumping on the bandwagon...even if he cheated alittle. I'm the same way too. I make sure I have as little on as possible when I weigh and it has to be first thing in the morning, before I've had anything to eat or drink!

Sounds like you are making some GREAT decisions though, especially to add exercise when the brain turns to mush.

    I totally agree with you about the woman from the red team! Sounds like a good recipe! I am glad that you were patient and waited for the machines! i have been chipping and throwing ice for three days so my exercise has been pretty intense outside! But it is finally going up to about 50 today so maybe the "stuff" will melt! I have also been home for days and I am finally going to work today for a delayed opening.

Your husband cracks me up! My Father and my two brothers had a contest once and my oldest brother took everything off before he weighed in and my other brother wore more clothes and also did wht your husband did and I bet you can guess who won! My oldest brother was not really using his brains that day, LOL!

Nerd day was FUN!

My local university had engineering day for the family. It was free and since I just graduated from the University, with a degree, I decided it would be fun to take the kids show them what it was about. We got there fairly early in the morning and there wasn't very much of a crowd. we went to the wind tunnel first, something my son was very much looking forward to. He thought it was very cool. Then we talked for materials scientists and that was some pretty cool stuff. Later we went to make catapults. We had a blast making catapults and then testing out on pyramids of cups.

We only made it to three of the buildings and there at least one more to go to. But by then, it was noon and I still had to go grocery shopping and get laundry done. Maybe next year we'll plan on spending the whole day there. Now it's time to go to bed. Night night Sparkers.

    Sounds pretty cool! What a great way to get kids interested in engineering! Our Community College does some sort of camp for kids during the summer.

in two weeks. I mean the gym. Did I mention how much I hate the new year?It brings out all the sometimes exercisers who take over my machines! This may be a good time to mention that I don't share very well! LOL! That (public) gym is really for my own personal use and others use it at my behest! And I didn't behest anyone!! LOL!!

Tonight, every single elliptical was being used! I ended up on a treadmill for 45 minutes (plus five minutes cool down), but I didn't hardly even work up a sweat. Lesson learned...I need to run on the treadmill, not walk.

As I was stretching and wiping off the machine, I swear that one of the newbies was staring at me! No, I was not sending "get out of my gym" vibes. Honest! I decided she was jealous of how good I look! Okay, so she probably wasn't even looking at me, and if she was, she probably wasn't thinking that. But, hey, a girl can dream...even if it's a witchy dream! LOL!!

    Ha! I hate it when people take over my domain, too! Take this past Saturday! I bundled up, drove to my favorite walking/snowshoeing spot in a nearby town forest, and as I was standing there strapping into the snow shoes another woman actually had the nerve to pull up in a car next to me, get out and do the same thing. Well, let me tell you I glared at her, she glared at me and off we went in opposite directions. How dare she disturb the peace of my quiet, snow covered forest!!
And yes we did pass on the loop about 40 mins later...funny how at that point we smiled and made nice as we passed each other, lol.

    Ok, I think the issue is not being able to get on the elliptical machine.... I'm confused but its ok, that is why I usually do not go the gym, when i'm outside I don't have to wait except for traffic lights. Woohoo !! In a few weeks the hoards will leave and your gym will be back to normal. whew and did you have a good work out anyway. Getting late and I want to encourage you to do some body weight exercises that do not require any machine whatsoever. cheers Jeff emoticon

    My, aren't we feeling testy! LOL!!! But like you said they'll be gone in a few weeks and you'll have your pick of the equipment again. And she probably was looking at how good you look and wishing she looked that good. Better be careful you just may give her the incentive to hang in there and keep coming to the gym! Ha! Ha! Anyway good to see that you're up to your old spunky self! Hope you have a good week. And in the meantime, not to be mean but just be grateful that you can exercise. I can still just barely walk and then for not too long. But I'll get there again. Sooner or later!

Diet Pepsi and exercise update

I decided that I was going to stop drinking Diet Pepsi and average 45 minutes of exercise every day this year. So far this year (23 days), I've had five cans of DP and one bottle (liter). Not quite the zero I was shooting for, but much less than the previoe 23 days where I had at least three cans per day.

For the 45 minutes of exercise per day average, I am using my fitness minutes on Spark People. That means I get five minutes for the stretching I do after cardio. Today I calculated my average and I was at 49 minutes. Yippee!!

Just saw a commercial for the Taco Bell Drive Thru Diet. Jeez!! What's wrong with doing it the way Spark People teaches us...consistent healthy choices. Duh!

  Who's complaining about the Taco Bell Diet? How do you think I lost 50 pounds last year? Oh wait, I forgot, the TBD's newer than that. I did it with Spark!
Keep up the great work giving up the DP! I used to be a 6 pack a day DC junkie myself. Once, I'd stocked up when it was on sale and hadn't taken most of in the house. I was panicking one day b/c I thought I was out. My roomie reminded me that my trunk was full of DC. Was I ever embarrassed!

    I tried quitting soda cold turkey. Didn't work. Now I do my best to have one 20 oz a day. If I surprise my self and drink all my water I allow myself another can of soda.

As for Taco Bell, that fiesta stuff does not taste good. At least that's my opinion.

    Question for you: I have stopped drinking Diet Pepsi over the past two months, and I find I am actually eating MORE. I have gained a few pounds as a result, and I am very mad at myself. Anyway, I was just wondering if you find you search out other foods when you find yourself 'wanting' a DP? Water gets so old . . .

Rowing machine again today

I used to rowing machine at the gym again today. It was hard again! But I stayed on for the full 15 minutes. And I went to the elliptical for 45 minutes. I keep trying to mix it up on the elliptical. Today 45 minutes was all done at a slope of nine instead of my normal four or five. And I kept the level at eight. Tomorrow I think I need to do intervals.

After the gym, it is time for softball registration. I will be at the middle school gym for three hours. Then I will be heading to the library. I have some books to return and I hope to finish the last couple chapters on the book I'm listening to on CD. After that I think I'll come home and see if I can fit a nap in. Talk to you all tomorrow. Bye.

Too funny!! My dictation app changed the phrase "get a nap in" to "sit in a napkin"! How funny is that! LOL!

    Excellent! Keep at the erg - it does get easier.

Some things to think about that will make you faster and more efficient (and prevent injuries):
Start compressed with your shins vertical, knees bent and heels down on the foot stretcher. Push through with your legs strongly ("the catch", when your oar blade would be going in the water), then pivot open at your hips so your back goes from leaning forward to just slightly backward, then with the momentum pull your shoulder blades together behind you to bring the handle in to your bra-line. Then reverse: arms lengthen first, then your back hinges forward, then bend knees and up to your compressed starting position, keeping your heels down.

You should never have to lift the handle over your knees. Try to keep your back straight so you don't strain or compress vertebrae, and keep your heels down so you don't waste motion/energy that could be making you move!
