So....complaining works?

Thursday, November 26, 2009

Yesterday I blogged about my scale not behaving as expected. Not that I was that worried, just something I noticed. My scale and I meet up this morning and what does it say? Down 0.8 pounds. The 0.4 pounds I was B*$CHING about yesterday are gone and they took some friends with them. LOL! Of course, it was one day and tomorrow is Thanksgiving. They'll be back and bring enough friends for a party!! LOL!

Everyone have a geat Thanksgiving day and practice moderation. That's my plan, anyway!

Success...I think?

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

I have kicked butt the last four or five days. I've worked out every day and been within my calorie range every one of those days. I have not snacked on things that were unplanned. Yay me!

I must admit that I am one of those people who weighs every day, in the morning, once. I'm not obsessed with the number on the scale (okay, maybe a little). I use the number to give myself feedback on how my body is reacting to what I did the day before. If I was low on fiber for a couple of days and then suddenly increase one day, my weight goes up. (I won't go into the details on that one! LOL!) If I drink a lot of water instead of soda, my weight goes down. Simple things like that help my enginerdy mind understand (or think it understands) what's happening to my body.

So, back to my success. I've kicked butt for the last couple of days and have been rewarded on the scale with...drum roll please.....a 0.4 pound weight GAIN!!! I know, I know...normal weight fluctuations. I totally get that. I think what bothers me is that I input the data that I've put in before and I got different results (I usually see a loss when I make this kind of change).

For those of you with analytical minds, you know that if you do x, you get y. Or, if you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you always got. Well, I did and I didn't! LOL! I suppose tomorrow will be different and I will see those 0.4 pounds are gone. I hope so. But, if they're not, I'm not letting it derail me. I know I'm making healthy changes and I feel better about myself. I may be obsessed with the scale, but it will not run my life!

Thanks for listening to my self-involved blog. emoticon

Well, I actually weigh every morning just once myself. Thankfully I have a thick skin and can handle the fact that it usually just sits there on the same number over and over for forever...unless it bumps up (pizza and chinese food almost guarantee it, lol, but usually come right back down after a day or two.
One thing I've learned though, is the body doesn't follow any necessarily normal laws of biology, chemistry, or physics, lol.
It does what it wants, when it wants, doesn't matter a whole lot what I say, do or think. So, I just keep plugging along.

Don't forget that the scale is alive and it is playing with your mind, it is not happy that you are working so hard so it is playing mean! LOL! Keep working at it and it will go down!

Don't be mislead by the stupid scale! Just hang in there and soon enough "it" will have to agree with you! Have fun working out!

This is why weighing yourself every day can be risky. You are doing FABULOUS, don't let the number ruin your success!!! And there isn't just 1 x factor, with metabolism, hormones, exercise, muscle building, fat loss... there are numerous x factors.

I know your frustration - we want tangible rewards for our hard work. Just keep going, you will get them!!!

I am so glad that you admit that you weigh every day. I thought I was the only one. LOL My weight fluxuates sometimes by a couple of pounds each day. But I, like you, use the info to figure out what is working and what is not. Keep on with the healthy changes. We will prevail!!

I ate less than normal...

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

And still felt pretty good! I got hungry a couple of times, but I ate the snacks and meals I had prepared. I even had room for a cookie (and filled it!).

Exercised again and have plans to go again in the morning.

Time for bed now. Sleep is another important component of weight loss!

Night all!

Funny how whenever I leave room for a cookie...I make sure to get it in.
Good job sticking to plan and cracking down on that eating.

Revamping the plans and still succeeding!

Sunday, November 22, 2009

I went into the Start page and changed my goal weight from 134 to 126 and gave myself until 1/31/2010 to reach that goal. Yep...Thanksgiving, Christmas (and all the mandatory parties) and my birthday ALL fall in that short two month timespan.

That means that I need to make smaller goals and the timelines that go with them. So here they are.

By December 6th, I will have lost two pounds (132)
By December 20th, I will be down another two pounds (130)
By January 3rd, I will have maintained (130)
By January 17th, I will have gotten another two pounds off (128)
By January 31st, I will be at my new goal!! (126)

Did you know that you get fewer calories when you're trying to lose weight than when you're trying to maintain? Oh, okay, I knew that intellectually, but DANG!! Seeing it on the Nutrition Tracker just really hit home! I guess that means that I will have to go back to entering my food in the day before I eat it. It's a good habit and this is just reminding me.

Bring on the holidays!!

I'm with Betsy on that question. I'm trying to lose too and I can eat up to 1,550 calories a day! That's a lot! I try to stay around 1,300, 1,200 being my low range.
You have some great goals and a good plan to get there. I know you will be successful, but I will pray that you "survive" the holidays, as they are the tough times of the year not to eat.
May God bless your efforts!

I was shocked because since I altered my exercise plans my calorie count has gone up. Why should I be eating more if I want to lose?

Teenagers who want to earn money are wonderful!

Sunday, November 22, 2009

My daughter gets an allowance every week. She gets it in part because she has certain chores she has to do every week and in part so she can get some practice managing money before it is vital to do it right.

That said, her "needs" are larger than her allowance. She asked if she could do any chores to earn extra money (I did something right there!) I thought about it and decided that I could afford to pay her $5 if she cleaned the refrigerator. Of course, I low-balled her and said I'd give her $3. She took it!! Woo Hoo!!! And, she did it ALMOST as good as I would.

When she was done, I told her how good it looked and told her thank you very much and I even paid her! She was happy and I was ecstatic. Sometimes, having a teen is a good thing! LOL!

BTW, exercise done! In calorie range, done! Started out right and kept on going!

Wow, I'm impressed!! Mine always wanted to get paid for chores that they didn't end up doing, lol.
It's been a lot of fun watching them learn to manage in the real world...you know, the world that expects them to actually work for a living??? So far none of them have asked to move home, lol, so they must be managing!!

You are doing a good thing teaching your kids about money. At least they will know that it doesn't grow on trees.

When I lived in Florida as a child, my mother used to pay us 25 cents for a coffee can of shelled pecans. We had a tree right across the street.
I think she got the better end of the deal! I just paid almost $5 for a bag at Wally-world today!
Allowance...that brings back alot of memories!

I would pay my son an allowance IF he did his chores. He doesn't, so I don't.

Glad you are having a good result. I think I will talk about the chores and try again with him.
