Parent Teacher Conference - UGH!

Thursday, November 05, 2009

Man...I hate these things! And I don't hate them for the reason you might think. Every time I go in to talk to my kids' teachers, they have nothing but good things to say about my kids. They are smart, dependable, responsible, well-behaved, kind and overall good kids. Not to brag...but...I know! LOL! One of my big goals as a parent is to teach my children how to behave, and especially be good for other people (babysitters, teachers, etc.). For the most part, I've been successful in that goal. (Okay, maybe a little bragging) emoticon

Tonight was no different nor did I expect it to be. The reason I don't like these things is that it feels like a waste of time for both the teacher and me. Once a year isn't so bad, so we muddle through. Some good news (at least to this enginerdy mom) is that my son is in sixth grade math (he's a fifth grader) and he has three options possible at the end of the year, depending on how he does during the year and on the ISAT test at the end of the year. One - retake Course 1 (the course he is in now) and probably skip Course 2 in 7th grade. Two - Take Course 2 in sixth grade. Three - Skip Course 2 and go onto 8th Grade Pre-Algebra in sixth grade. His teacher said that if he continues to do as well as he is now, he may be the only child that has option #3 recommended to him. emoticon I told him what his options were, but not that he may be the only one. I also emphasized that he would have to work for option #3...it wasn't a given. He was pretty excited about the idea of taking math at the same level as his sister (three years his senior!). What can I say, I know how to motivate my kids! LOL!

I am glad that your son is doing so well because I know a lot of kids that really suffer with math! You are doing a great job raising your kids and I think those conferences tell you that!

I hated them too because the teacher was a old fart and didn't understand the ADHD/Asperges my son suffered. Ashame, my son is very intelligent at his new school, the teachers out there just don't recognize the boy being described on the report sheet (they are used to getting kids written off this way) lol...
My son is a joy to have around, does as asked, follows even in german classes even if he sucks at it (his own words), key word is he is willing to sit there and try now! Having positive people asking him what he means about stuff locked the door up to more positive attitude! Some teachers just earn a buck like everyone else, but their heart isn't always where kids can feel it..

Day 5 with no Diet Pepsi?

Thursday, November 05, 2009

Heck no!! LOL! I had one for breakfast, just cos I could! LOL!

Okay, okay. I did have three cans of DP today. Before this four-day hiatus, I would have had the three cans (maybe four) PLUS a liter of DP with lunch. So I count today as a success. I will continue to turn to water and tea as first choice and make DP a sometimes drink. But I did find out that if I tell my self I can't have it, I won't. I might eat the house, but I won't wash it down with Diet Pepsi! LOL!

Thanks to all for your support during this horrendous challenge! I appreciate the words of encouragement and I'll keep them in mind as I continue this battle with the evil DP monster!

Drinking diet carbonated drinks is an addition of mine too. I learned to only drink one a day by treating it as my cocktail hour and just sit an enjoy it. Good luck on your challenge. We salute you.

I only allow myself one diet root beer a day and sometimes I even forget to have it! This would be a tough challenge for me.
Be proud and loud for your successes. emoticon

How did that first sip taste? Glad you survived your challenge! Maybe your next challenge should be no soda for a week! That stuff is really not good for you.

Four days with no Diet Pepsi and no deaths to report!

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

Let me start by saying, I like Diet Pepsi. I like the caffeine, I like the taste, I like the fizz. DP is my friend! LOL! I have ignored my friend for four days and it almost killed me! The cravings were strong (still are!), but I'm going to make it. No way am I going to have a DP now and ruin an entire day of no DP. Tomorrow, on the other hand, is a different story! LOL! I plan to have my soda, but not as much as I had five days ago. We'll see how that goes. emoticon

I was a Diet Coke addict. I had to go off them per doctors orders when I had a bladder infection in March of '08. The withdrawal was so bad that I will NEVER go back to them. Caffeine free is the way to be. emoticon

I am a recovering diet coke-aholic. I used to drink a six pack a day when it was warm out. I haven't had any since Oct. 1. It does get easier the longer you are 'off it'. emoticon

Big plans for tomorrow!

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

Okay, not really. I am taking the day off to take my son to the doctor. I'm expecting to hear that he is also allergic (or at least sensitive to) corn in addition to his gluten allergy. Already mentally sorting my recipes to determine what he could still eat if that's true.

Tomorrow is election day for some local races. I plan to go vote...if I can figure out where my polling place is! LOL! I know where it is for "regular" elections, but am not sure if they are going to have the same places open for a smaller election.

Thought about asking one of my friends to go to lunch with me. Unfortunately, I have not asked yet and she is more of a planner than I am! I may still ask but will totally understand if she is unable/unwilling to go. Last minute stuff can really mess up your day!

Told DH that I'm taking the day off so he volunteered me to take the kids to school. Ain't he the sweetest? LOL! I'll probably do it, just to give him a break. Even tho son has a two-minute walk (three if he dawdles). DH has spoiled those kids! The good thing is that it will get me out of the house and to the gym early so I have time for other stuff.

Other stuff...like practicing commands with my boxer Abby. We are supposed to graduate from puppy training on Wednesday and we can only do that if she passes certain tests. That may or may not happen. Wish us luck!!

And to end the day on the right note? I'm going to watch The Biggest Loser!! My favorite show! Okay, really the only show that I insist on watching. Can't wait to see how horribly Tracey acts this week and who will annoy me! LOL!

Sounds like a great day! I can't believe that she has not been kicked out yet! That is also one tv show that I watch too. Enjoy your day and I hope you get it all accomplished and that your puppy can graduate! It would be really bad for his morale if he fails!

Day 2 no Diet Pepsi

Sunday, November 01, 2009

One of the teams I am on is having a weekly challenge. The challenge is to avoid white potatoes, white bread, white rice, etc. for two of the seven days. No problem there. The other is to avoid alcohol and soda for four out of the seven days. Since I'm not much of an imbiber, the alcohol portion is no big deal either. However, Diet Pepsi is my caffeine source of choice. I don't drink coffee and tea only has a small portion of the caffeine that soda and coffee do. PLUS, I like Diet Pepsi! It tastes good!

Well, I decided to take the challenge...mostly on days that I don't work. I started yesterday (Saturday) and will continue through Tuesday. As I only have to get up early one of those days (Monday), I think I can do this. Plus, I'm heading to bed early tonight...I hope. It hasn't been too bad yet, going without. Definitely want one...right NOW! But, can handle not having one.

Two more days!

Today will probably be the toughest since it's your second day. After that it will only get easier! That's how it was for me when I gave up Diet Coke a while back. Trust me, it's better for you... Google the effects those chemicals and sweeteners have on your body if you want to know!

You can do this!! Diet sodas are my major vice and I know it would be a challenge to go without. But it is doable...

Barb, you can do this sister!!!!! I am on day 15 of the self-imposed no soft drink thang....so far, only one minor desire came a calling and I pushed back...I am not saying that I won't drink again, but I want to give myself some distance in this battle before I down the diet pepsi!

WOrse case scenario, buy headgear like the boxers wear in case you start shaking your way into walls...you'll be ok!
