What kind of mother...

Saturday, October 24, 2009

wants to go grocery shopping by herself? I'm not sure what kind that is, but I know I'm that kind! I took my 10-year old son with me to run all of my errands today, which included grocery shopping. Goodness, what a trip! We went to a bank inside of a grocery store first...he took some of the beans out of the pot holding pens. What was he planning to do with those beans? I do not know and do not want to know. Let's just say he put them back before he got the chance to act.

Next, we went to Costco (ugh!) and he "avoided" people. He did some funky moves and went way right or way left and swerved a lot. So, he did stay out of their way, but in a 10-year old boy way. LOL!

Next was the GF store where he took one of every single sample they had. The pumpkin cake was delish!

Wal-mart was our next stop (double ugh!) and he needed TWO chocolate milks. Yes, two. Yes, needed. He paid for them himself, so okay. They were both gone before we got out of the parking lot.

Last was the grocery store. He tried to be helpful and I tried to let him. Sometimes things take longer when you're being helped. But, the good news is that he asked for plums, peaches and apples. I almost said no (not on my list) until I realized he was asking for fruits! Duh!! Don't want to discourage that! He got them. LOL!

On the way home, he talked non-stop. I have no idea what he said cos it was just talking...and talking...and more talking. I guess that it is good that he wants to talk to me. I did realize, tho, that I really like my quiet time and I missed that today. The irony is that I just interrupted him and he told me that I "never let him talk." emoticon I guess we were in different vehicles all afternoon. emoticon

Okay, time to go watch Boise State Univ school Hawaii!

Well, my son is 2, and going to the grocery store by myself is like a mini-vacation!! I can browse without hearing "Mom. Mom. Mom. Mom. Mom. MOM!!!" or having to remind him every few seconds to stay out of other people's way. My DH isn't much better - he gets antsy if I take more than 3 seconds to make a decision about what I want. Stopping to read and compare labels will net me eyerolls that make me wonder how his eyeballs even stay in his head!! (and make me think he's way too in touch with his inner teenage girl! LOL!)
By myself, I can read labels to my hearts content, seek out new products I've heard about, buy whatever I want with no comments from the peanut gallery (aka DH), and most importantly, shop whine- and beg-free!
I think we're both pretty great moms, though...

I remember having to take four of them with me...I hated it!!! Though my youngest was generally helpful when I was able to take just him...he had a walking inventory of what we needed in his head from Milk to Toilet Paper....the only problem with him was trying to remember if we needed soap in the days when we were trying to convince him that soap was his friend, lol.
Even now I prefer to go alone. Hubby gets to help make the list, but otherwise I go by myself. Seems there was always time to browse the cookie aisle when he was with me, but he'd start pushing me to hurry up once we hit...say...produce!!
So now I come home with way fewer cookies and much more healthy stuff, lol, and he mostly doesn't notice the difference.

This is a cute blog. I agree with the dilemma. When you are running errands, it's complicated enough. Having someone along with you can often make it more stressful. But at the same time, spending time with him is awesome! I agree with the other comments, that this age will be gone in a heart beat and you'll be lucky to get a few words out of him, nevertheless a whole conversation. Alas... this is growing up. At least you guys had a productive day and came to some good compromises. Do you think you're healthy eating is rubbing off on him???

You reminded me of the times when I had to take 4 kids with me (as there was noone to watch them!) - we always had to have a discussion before we left on the things we are getting. Usually they could get ONE thing they wanted and that was our last stop.

But the talking I enjoyed and you should too. Because there comes a time when they will stop talking to you (telling you that you never listen anyway!?). I'm glad mine are starting to talk to me again -but they have all passed 20 now. I think it is the best of times when they all come home (rare enough) and get going telling stories. I just love the noise of it that comes to the kitchen (as I usually have to spend those times there, but sometimes they just come in, sit on the counters as I make my way around them and talk - I love that!

But many people are not sure what to think of my sanity LOL!

I once read a poem about there is no one as wonderful 10 year old boy. My sons were younger at the time and I thought ...Ok remember this. And it is true...they still love you and aren't afraid to show it, they run around and play hard with their friends..they talk and talk and talk but at least it's to you...they don't take your car or need auto insurance or money to pay for a speeding ticket..they will actually go on errands with you to keep you company. They tell stupid jokes..They laugh and enjoy life..Enjoy your chatterbox...teenagers are a whole different story...They actually expect you to ride in a car while they drive it (terrifying!).

I can soooooo relate to this blog. I would much rather go grocery shopping by myself. I can just get in and get it done. When I take my 10 year old granddaughter she doesn't swerve to miss people, she dances in the aisles and doesn't see anyone coming so she tends to run into everyone. She also talks non-stop like that. It must be a 10 year old thing.

Hahahah!!!! Sounds like an insane day - I'm impressed by how many stores you went to, first of all! And that you stayed sane!

10 and 11 years old is my least favorite age b/c they make me crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy! So props to you for not losing your sanity ;) haha.

Mom, why don't you ever let him talk?!

A little closer to caught up

Friday, October 23, 2009

My boss told me that there are many things that will need to be done every day and that there was an easy way to prioritize them.

Do the stuff that will get me yelled at or fired if I don't do them first.
Do the stuff that has to be done to keep business going next.
Do stuff I want to do last.

Guess what never gets done! LOL!

Good thing I'm salary...they couldn't afford me otherwise! emoticon

I just hope there's a clear line between what will get you fired and what will keep business running, lol, or you might be in trouble!!!

Going into work early tomorrow

Friday, October 23, 2009

I am so behind at work that I feel like I will never catch up. I will, but with the new learning I have to do, things take me longer than I think they should. I'm heading into work a couple of hours early tomorrow so I can some of the "gotta-do's" off my to-do list. If I can get those couple of things done, I will feel better about what's left. At least that's my plan!

On that note, good night!

Puppy training update

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

So...we got tested on sit/stay tonight. Abby passed. I cheated. LOL! I had a treat in my hand. She will sit very still for a very long time if there is a treat in her future!

We practiced the Come command. She was so bad (went after the dogs at the other end) that we were sent to a quiet aisle to practice! LOL!

DH is still fighting off whatever it is he has, so I took my daughter. She behaved better than my son did last week, but was glued to the cell phone. She was NOT happy when I took it away! I put my phone in one back pocket of my jeans, and hers in the other. I had a lumpy butt! LOL!

We have three more weeks and Abby is doing better. She has a long way to go, but then, so do we! We need to practice more consistently. We'll get there...I swear! emoticon

Oh, puppy school, I remember those days!!! We have labs (just one now, the other one passed away just over a year ago) and they were both highly motivated by food. Just like me!!!! We never did get past the treat phase in training. Stick with it, it'll be worth it in the long run!

What kind of puppy do you have now? Oh dear, I'm starting to want another one. Uh oh!! emoticon

LOVE the Biggest Loser!!

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

I do not watch a lot of television that I have chosen. In other words, DH or the kids generally choose what we are watching. However, on Tuesday nights, I watch The Biggest Loser. If that means I go into my room by myself to watch, so be it! LOL!

Watched tonight and was disappointed that my least favorite person is still there. Oh well, there's always next week!

I'm in the same boat that you are. If there is a show I really want to watch I go in the bedroom. I watch Dancing With The Stars and Grey's Anatomy. Sorry things didn't work out as you planned. LOL
