Plans, they are a'changin!

Saturday, September 19, 2009

Originally, my plans were to sleep in tomorrow as late as I could and still be up and ready for my son's game. This translates to me being able to sleep until 10:00 to comfortably get to the field on time.

But...I have 7.08 miles to go in two days on the Walk to Vegas challenge on the Idaho team. I took day 2 of my Nutrition Boot camp class today and I realized that I hadn't met any of the goals I put out for myself this week. I need to run to CostCo to order contacts for my daughter. I need to run an errand for DH. I get to go to the library. I want to go to the gym. I want to finish my book so I can start the next one (The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown!!). I want to start some auctions for DH for extra $$. I should clean the house. Laundry will need to be done.

So, we'll see how I feel when I wake up in the morning. DH will leave around 7 and wake me up to say good bye. I will decide then what wins...extra sleep or extra to-do's that will be ta-done!

I suggest you disregard laundry. It always somehow creeps back into the basket. A really futile job...

I know this war! I did it this morning. My plan was to sleep in, but my brain woke me up this morning and made me feel guilty enough to get up to do laundry and run to Wally World to get groceries and some cleaning supplies. Time to clean the bathrooms. emoticon

Sounds like you have a very busy weekend! Whatever you decide squeezing a little exercise in will make you feel better so try and squish it in there somewhere!

Tug-of-war with a boxer and typing...

Friday, September 18, 2009

do not mix! My boxer is now almost five months old and very much a puppy. Her favorite game is to play tug-of-war with either her ball or her teddy bear (but not the chew toy specifically designed for tug-of-war emoticon)

So, as I'm typing and reading blogs and responding to e-mails, etc., Abby comes up with her teddy bear. We play tug until I get it, then I throw it for her to go get and bring back. Repeat. And repeat. And repeat. Anyway, we repeated until she got bored...and brought me her ball instead! LOL!! I don't know how many of you are aware, but boxers tend to slobber...especially when they are chewing on something. I had to get up and wash my hands before I could type or use the mouse again!

She did decide that a doll (not hers) and a sock (again, not hers) were more fun to chew than her toys. I used some of the techniques that our instructor showed us and they seem to be working! The second time she got something she wasn't supposed to have, it only took me 20 times of saying "Drop it" for her to actually drop it! (Versus the 100 times it took me the first time! LOL!!)

She's ready for bed now. As soon as everyone's bedding is dry, we are all going to bed. No....I washed their beds. They didn't pee on it (nor did I!) and my bedding is just fine, thank you! LOL!

    Hilarious,

I got laughing so hard thinking of you typing with slobbery hands from that ball. Guess the classes are going great

Thanks for the laughs!

Another good one to use is the "trade" command. When a dog has something they shouldn't you trade them for something better. I taught this to my friends golden who had a thing for socks and underwear. Now she wants to play "trade" all the time. She will pick up whatever is close and bring it to you and stand there until you trade her for something else. She will stand there and swap the same 2 items for 20 minutes.

Just think about all that extra exercise you are getting with all of the bending and pulling and such! Your boxer sounds very cute!

Puppy training....or is it people training?

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Tonight was the first night of puppy training with our Boxer, Abby. She was VERY excited about the whole thing. She got to go on a car ride. She got to explore new things, places and people. AND, there were other dogs there. Hi, I'm Abby. Hi, I'm Abby. Hi, I'm Abby - food - Hi, I'm Abby. Hi, I'm Abby - pretty - Hi, I'm Abby. Hi, I'm Abby. Anyway, you get the idea.

The trainer/teacher of the class is 20 and already has 12 years of experience! Dang! She gave us some basics (don't say no, have a reward word or sound) and passed out homework. Blech! We need to practice the reward word, the correct naughty behavior word/activity and the watch me exercise at least 30 times each day. DH and I both went, so we have to work together to be consistent and make sure we use the same words and actions. I think the hardest part will be to train myself to train her!

Anyway, really tired now, so I need to make my lunch for tomorrow and get in bed. Later all.

We didn't take our dog to training. We probably should have as he bolts out the front door if you leave it open long enough. If we leave it go, he doesn't go far, just lays in the neighbors yard watching the house.

We work with him when the opportunity arrives, but he is an old dog and this is one trick he doesn't want to learn.

I agree that as humans we have to be trained 1st before a dog can learn. My guess is that Abby already has you guys trained to give in when she looks at you cute. ;)

Maggie knows she is not the Alpha dog in this house, but she knows she rules over my DH, cause he isn't firm enough with her to let her know.( He spoils her.) She is a hound and is very stubborn. emoticon Good luck on the training.

Well, that's how the wisdom goes - it's people who need training not the dogs. Must admit, Charlie trained us pretty well. But compared to our first ever dog - a Coker Spaniel named Jake, Charlie is a piece of cake. We managed to become HIS pack and he was the Lord of the Mountain. BIG, big mistake! So good you are getting Abby trained the right way. She will grow into a big dog someday and it's good you are taking precaution. Good luck with it and yes HAVE FUN.

Ha Ha! We took our beagle through 3 different stages of training. Yep, it's learning how to train yourself to train the dog!

Near tragedy at lunch!

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

As many of you know, my favorite part of the day is sitting in the sun on the patio at work during lunch. I eat my lunch and read my book, all by myself! It is WONDERFUL! Today, i was very close to finishing my book so I took my back-up book too.

Half way through lunch, I finished reading my book. I took the time to read the excerpts from other books by the author, including the "new' one coming out next month (whatever month that was!). I've decided to add this author to my excel sheet of authors and books to read. (That IS an honor, dang it!! LOL!)

Time to start the next book. Hide and Seek by James Patterson. I read the first paragraph and that is when tragedy struck! emoticon

I have already read that book! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I have fifteen minutes of lunch left and no book to read! emoticon You other readers out there can relate. I know you can!! So, with no other choice before me, I headed back early. The minute I got home, I swapped out the books I had read and got the next book in line. And yes, I read the first page to make sure it really was a new book! LOL!!

Tragedy averted!

What I really hate is when I get halfway through the book before I realize I read it before, lol.
Though there are a few that I read over and over.

    LOL,

My DW re-reads some of her books, so it wouldn't have been a tragedy for her, LOL. Of course it only because I LET her have three books FORCING her to read them over and over and over and over again.

Glad we didn't have to call out the National Guard, you boss probably changed out your book so you would get back to work EARLY, LMAO

HAGD and thanks for the chuckles

The boss was gone and I kinda liked it!

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

To clarify, the old boss was out (he ran a 31-mile race this weekend!). Since he was out, I covered at one of the calls with a subcontractor. And I did pretty good! I knew the answers to their questions, what our plans were and when we expected to have more information for them! I may find out tomorrow that I was wrong, but today I feel great! emoticon
