Updates as a little extra!

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Intrigued now, ain't ya! LOL!

So, first and foremost, Grandma has been moved out of the CVICU (cardio vascular intensive care unit). Impressed with my doc-speak, huh? NOT! Anyway, she has been able to take liquids without assistance and is on a liquid diet. She is stable...not critical but stable! Yay! It's still one day at a time, but she's heading in the right direction.

Second, the BIG re-org announcement came out today. And, yes, I have a new boss! emoticon emoticon Hip, Hip, HOORAYYYY!!!

My new boss was my boss three bosses ago, so I know what he is like, what he expects and what I need to supply to make sure he's good. The one slight damper is that there used to be four people handling the same products that I handle (yes, I'm one of the four). One left to another group and two others have new responsibilities. That means that right now, I am the only one officially working on my products. emoticon Luckily, the powers-that-be recognize the hole and are working on shoring it up. Details next week...or so they say.

Thirdly, Nutritional Boot Camp. Today was day one of four. Most of it was familiar. She did say, tho, that EVERYTHING you do makes a Difference. Everything. That one donut you didn't eat, makes a difference. That one cigarette that you didn't smoke, makes a difference. I'm going to remember that the next time I think I've "blown it" for the day. At the end of the class, she was showing us some reference material. And what do you think was there?!?! YES!! She said that it was one of her favorite sites! How cool is that?

Now, for the little extra. I left work a little more than two hours early today so that I could meet with my son's teacher to discuss his Celiac and what we could do to help him stay included in school activities. I was ten minutes early for my appointment, but when I tried to open the front door to the school, it was locked. emoticon Really? Okay, so I get my phone out and call the school to let them know that I am there and they need to let me in. The call immediately goes to voice mail and does not give me any extensions to try to call. emoticon

While I am on the phone with the voice mail, one of the secretaries walks out. I tell her that I need in to meet with the teacher. Oh, she went home. She thought your appointment was at 2:45. emoticon Based on our e-mails, I could see where the confusion might have come from. But, the teacher did not call me on any of my phones to determine why I was late. She did not e-mail me. She just left. emoticon

I will admit that I handled the frustration very poorly while I was at the school. This was the last straw for me for this school and I took it out on the secretary (she needs her own dressing down, but not for this!). I left the school, came directly home and wrote an e-mail to the teacher clearly expressing my displeasure at being blown off. I did not curse (tho I wanted to!) nor did I do any name-calling (yes, I can be very childish). Instead, I explained that I had taken time out of my schedule to meet with her and she did not uphold her part. Therefore, she needs to now work around my schedule if she still wants to meet. If she doesn't want to meet, I told her that I would assume that she is an expert in Celiac and would be able to guarantee my son's health and safety in all school activities. Then I added the principal of the school and hit send.

When my DH got home, I let him know that he will probably need to be the one who interacts with my son's teacher for the rest of the year! LOL! I'm sure I didn't make any friends with that particular missive. But, you know, when you make an appointment with someone, you'd think they would be there. Can you tell I'm still miffed, irked and frustrated by this experience? The good news is that I used the anger (yes, I said it, anger!) to burn some extra calories at the gym!

Barb, awesome news on the grandmother front...

The boss change sounds like a blessing,, as to the school thang, hey, at least you used your anger to fuel your exercise! Burn those calories!!!!!

Wish I had done the same thing this week, but I was stuck on a pity party....wah wah wah.... emoticon

I am pretty much over it, but I wasted the weekend and I ate horribly....not a good day in the neighborhood!

Today is a fresh start!

    You did GREAT Barbara!
Only thing better would have been to cuss them out, LOL

Had to put a smile on your face, hee hee.

Sure glad to hear of grannies stability too, much better that she can drink and keep it down. Yay!

Glad you got that frustration out at the gym rather than from your fingers around someones neck, LOL

Enjoy your weekend!

Okay, here is my 2 cents... Praise God about your grandmother; that is awesome that she is recovering and by the sound of your typing, you are relieved that she is coming out of the valley!

On the other hand.... Don't let satan spoil your blessings!! He saw that you were praising God and giving Him the glory for how He is protecting and healing grandma, so he (satan) through that cog in your wheel!! satan doesn't want you to be happy, he wants you to be frustrated and stressed out and angry so you can blame God for all your woes. he wants you to take out your frustrations on God's other creations so you will make enemies... See how that dirty clown works??? Don't let satan defeat you!! You are a child of the King!!! I tell everyone that! Try and smooth things over with your son's teachers as I am pretty sure she is there to help him; that is whay she wants to meet with you. Apologize for the misunderstanding about the appointment (she will probably apoloize too) and get on with the business of helping your son!!

You actually sound a lot like me in my younger days until God sat me down and had a long talk with me about my attitude! Stay focused on Him and you will get through all this!!

Now that would be what I would have done - well in my mind's scenario. But eventually DH would have explained to me that this is not the best way to handle it (mainly because he would not want to be dealing with the teacher for the rest of the school year)... But the anger burning calorie part is really good. emoticon

Is it finally going to happen?

Friday, September 11, 2009

Word on the street is that "The BIG Announcement" about my area's re-org will be tomorrow. I'm excited, nervous and a little cynical. Part of me does not believe that the announcement will come. The sad thing is...we have a pool going (no $$ involved, just bragging rights) about when the announcement will come. The first guy chose tomorrow at 4:30pm. At first, I figured 3:00 tomorrow as I'm leaving at 2:45. emoticon But, I changed my guess to be 9:11 on 9/11. Easy to remember, right? I'm hoping the bad day/time will balance out and become good news. I'll let you know tomorrow if it happens!

So, for my own edification (or memory!), I need to tell y'all about:

1. Nutritional boot camp
2. Re-org news (if any)
3. Update on Grandma

Not necessarily in that order!

Nutritional Boot Camp

Thursday, September 10, 2009

My company is offering a class titled "Nutritional Boot Camp" for free during lunch for the next four weeks. I have to give up my read-on-the-patio-and-soak-up-the-sun time, but I think it will be worth it. I feel like I am pretty knowledgeable about general nutrition, but am always open to learning more. I'm really hoping that I learn things that I can put into practice in my daily life.

First class is Friday. I'll try to remember to let you know how it went and whether it was worth it (yes, it's free, but my time is EXPENSIVE!!!) LOL!

Conference calls are not for the faint (feint?) of heart!

Tuesday, September 08, 2009

Every week day morning, I get a page to remind me of all of my meetings that day. Rarely is there a day that I don't get a page. This morning, I get a page that has a phone number, an access code, the title "2nd Day" and a time of 8:00 - 9:30. emoticon

Um....I get to work at 8:00 and I have to make a phone call right as I sit down!! Yep, that's what happened. And, I sat there, on the phone, for 90 minutes. emoticon Yes, we were discussing the project that isn't mine, but I am still very involved it. (Whatev'!) This evening,, 30 minutes after I normally leave, we started ANOTHER conference call. Same subject, some of the same participants, same length of time.

And the best part?!?! I get to be at work 30 minutes early to do it all over again. Yay me!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Okay, not yay me. But, I'll do what I need to do and be a team player. And, how is this for cynical. We have a new evaluation/project starting. My boss' boss stopped by to ask me about it today. I gave him the information I had and forwarded the e-mails I had on it. The entire time we were talking, I kept thinking "Who are you handing this one off to?" Cynical, huh? And an improper sentence to boot! LOL!!! They haven't taken this one away yet. Any one want to get in on the pool for when they do? LOL!!

Okay, done. Later all!

I think we should all get on a conference call to discuss it. LOL

I hope today goes better for you.

Darned good thing that I don't have conference calls!

I don't know if I could tolerate 90 minutes of something that I had to go into work EARLY for, much less something that I wasn't directly involved with.

Have a great rest of your week, it's got to get better, LOL

OMG! I have those kinds of conference calls all the time too. I waste so much time on these calls and then the boss wonders why I'm so pressed for time. I'm not a gambler so I'll say no to the pool. Thanks anyway. LOL

Glad someone can relate. Thanks for the blog.

Update on Grandma

Monday, September 07, 2009

Went to visit today and the tube is out! Yay! They took it out yesterday. Her throat is still very sore and she isn't passing the "drinking" test so she can't have anything to drink. She was very out of it and didn't realize that she had had surgery. I think she recognized me and my daughter, but I couldn't guarantee that.

My grandpa came by while we were there and we had a nice visit with him. Both grandparents looked older than I remember. I guess that's what hospital visits do to you.

Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers. Much appreciated!
