Conference calls are not for the faint (feint?) of heart!

Tuesday, September 08, 2009

Every week day morning, I get a page to remind me of all of my meetings that day. Rarely is there a day that I don't get a page. This morning, I get a page that has a phone number, an access code, the title "2nd Day" and a time of 8:00 - 9:30. emoticon

Um....I get to work at 8:00 and I have to make a phone call right as I sit down!! Yep, that's what happened. And, I sat there, on the phone, for 90 minutes. emoticon Yes, we were discussing the project that isn't mine, but I am still very involved it. (Whatev'!) This evening,, 30 minutes after I normally leave, we started ANOTHER conference call. Same subject, some of the same participants, same length of time.

And the best part?!?! I get to be at work 30 minutes early to do it all over again. Yay me!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Okay, not yay me. But, I'll do what I need to do and be a team player. And, how is this for cynical. We have a new evaluation/project starting. My boss' boss stopped by to ask me about it today. I gave him the information I had and forwarded the e-mails I had on it. The entire time we were talking, I kept thinking "Who are you handing this one off to?" Cynical, huh? And an improper sentence to boot! LOL!!! They haven't taken this one away yet. Any one want to get in on the pool for when they do? LOL!!

Okay, done. Later all!

Darned good thing that I don't have conference calls!

I don't know if I could tolerate 90 minutes of something that I had to go into work EARLY for, much less something that I wasn't directly involved with.

Have a great rest of your week, it's got to get better, LOL

OMG! I have those kinds of conference calls all the time too. I waste so much time on these calls and then the boss wonders why I'm so pressed for time. I'm not a gambler so I'll say no to the pool. Thanks anyway. LOL

Glad someone can relate. Thanks for the blog.

Update on Grandma

Monday, September 07, 2009

Went to visit today and the tube is out! Yay! They took it out yesterday. Her throat is still very sore and she isn't passing the "drinking" test so she can't have anything to drink. She was very out of it and didn't realize that she had had surgery. I think she recognized me and my daughter, but I couldn't guarantee that.

My grandpa came by while we were there and we had a nice visit with him. Both grandparents looked older than I remember. I guess that's what hospital visits do to you.

Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers. Much appreciated!

Bonus! I'm off tomorrow too!

Monday, September 07, 2009

This has been a really nice weekend. I spent way too much time outside yesterday watching my son play football (and waiting to watch him play) and have a slight sunburn on my nose and shoulders. Can you say sunscreen? Or, in my case, lack thereof. emoticon emoticon

Today, I slept in and DH made breakfast. Afterward, I went to the gym and then came home and read my book. After dinner, DH took me to a movie. No kids! We went to see The Hangover. Hilarious movie and so totally not right, but I loved it!

And the best part is...I have tomorrow off too! Yippee!!! So, get this. I took the position I have about six years ago. When I did, I start working Monday - Friday, 8 - 5, like a normal person (first time EVER!). That also meant I started getting holidays off. Yes, six years ago. Today, DH told the kids that he was taking tomorrow off. Just him, not me. He seriously forgot that I had the day off. emoticon I guess something needs to happen a little more often, a little more consistently and for a little longer before he notices! LOL!!

Anyway, it should be a great day tomorrow. More sleeping and more reading for me!

Whadda ya know...goals work!

Saturday, September 05, 2009

I blogged yesterday about my plans for the weekend. How I was going to eat well and exercise and all that. Color me surprised when I realized that it works! emoticon

Today was my son's first football game of the season. He was scheduled to play at noon and had to be there at 11:00. Can you say "Lunchtime"? Anyway, I ate some string cheese, took an apple and carrots and stopped by the convenience store for a DP and peanuts. As I was watching the game, I really wanted the peanuts, but I thought about my goals and opted for the apple and the carrots. Hunger gone. Afterward, I had one of the tiny bags of chips that we brought for after-game snacks and a hamburger bun with peanut butter. Not the best, healthiest lunch, BUT I did not slather peanut butter on the bun. I actually kept it very close to the 2 TBSP serving size! WOO HOO!!

My plan was to get up this morning and go to the gym before the game. That didn't happen. I had trouble hauling my lazy butt out of bed and then I still had to go get snacks and laminate sheets. As it was, we barely made it to the field on time! I justified missing the morning workout by telling myself that I would go this afternoon. And...I actually did!! I did my week 3, day 1 pushups and 45 minutes on the elliptical. Yay for me!!!

I get home from the gym and what do I see? Chocolate chip cookies. What do I want to do? Eat them ALL!!! But, again, I thought about those goals and guess what?!?! Yep, it worked! I did eat two cookies, one before supper and one after. But, they fit into my eating plan for the day.

So, overall, I would say that the day was a success. I could have done MUCH better on my lunch, but for the most part I had a good day. One down, the rest of my life to go....and that's going to be a very looooooooong time! emoticon

Not my best week...okay, month!

Saturday, September 05, 2009

Since football started...okay, football practice for my son...I have gone way off track. I used to come home in the evening, make dinner and then head to the gym. Well, now I come home, I may or may not make dinner, grab my son and off we go to practice. I usually hang around there, talking to the other moms and watching my son. Partly because I like it and partly because he really likes it when I'm there. (He would prefer that Dad goes, or better, both of us, but he'll take what he can get!).

When we get home, I usually make dinner, walk the dogs (with one of the kids or DH), gather my stuff for the next day and then log onto Spark People. By the time I'm done with all of that, it's 11:00 and I need to get some sleep. Obviously something needs to change. DH's suggestion is to not log onto SP..or if I do, not spend so much time here. I don't like that suggestion! emoticon I do this for me. I am not going to give this up. I'm just not!

So, here's the plan for this long weekend. I am going to stay on track with both nutritional intake (not just calories, but actual nutrients!) and exercise all three days. I am also going to plan my week to make sure I get in my exercise and nutrients each day. Here are the things I'm going to consider...Any other suggestions?

Exercise:

Get up before work (HARD to do!)
Take my bag and work out at lunch (doable, but I would miss sitting on the patio reading my book)
Working out during my son's practice - there would be running, walking, pushups, situps. If not there, the gym, but I would miss his practice

I'm not really trying to shoot down any of these ideas...okay, the before work one, I am...I'm just trying to keep limitations in mind so that I make the right choices.

Dinner:
Plan easy dinners - tacos, sandwiches, etc.
Ask DH to make dinner - although, not sure why I have to ask. Doesn't he see that no one is making dinner? There is a menu on the fridge that shows what to make. Anyway, different subject...
Ask daughter to make dinner - she's 13 and should know her way around the kitchen better than she does now. Doesn't leave her much time for homework, chores and down time
Any other ideas?

Staying in range:
Plan, plan, plan and...oh yeah... PLAN!!!! Figure out what I'm going to eat, when I'm going to eat it and take it with me!

I'll write down my goals for the week and let you know what they are and how I do. Please throw any suggestions my way. Softly tho! LOL!

Here is my thing this is a lifestyle right? I don't say diet because we are trying to learn to eat right portions and exercise etc. THere are times when life is super busy and we just can't put this as top priority. It is important for you to be with your son and enjoy the community interaction. Once you get in the groove, all things will steady out. I am doing Spirit Wear and this is my really busy season with all sports ordering stuff. The other day I was busy from 7 until 4PM with orders. I was exhausted, had not exercised and we ordered out. The next day, I did my exercise and cooked a nice meal. It is called life and we need to be OK with the times when it gets too busy to post on sparks or having the meal be the most important thing. Give yourself a little room for wiggle. We always have tomorrow! Lenny

I liked you plan for dinner with two of the alternatives.
First, DH should be able to fix dinner
Second, Daughter could be a good support system for DH and be able to call the fire department should the need arise, LOL.

I'm not sure what to suggest on the work outs. I'll let YOU make THAT decision, as if I made any of the others, LOL

Have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

Oh B - you are a busy, busy woman! (I get sleepy just thinking about it lol)

don't have any suggestions but one query: is the only alone and/or downtime that you have is when you sit on the patio reading a book during lunch? Just food for thought. I know for me, my alone time is sacred - it helps me to clear my head and take a moment for myself.

I'm sending you good vibrations to solve this quandary.

Keep your face toward the sunshine,

Topaz

Oh boy, I can totally relate to your blog. However, I am over and done with this part of my life. I went through this exact same thing 20 years ago, which is actually when I gained all my weight.

I wish I had a magical answer for you. Is it possible for you and DH to take turns making dinner? Make up a schedule and do every other day? Would he be open to that? I definitely don't think not logging on to SP or not staying on as long is a good choice because I know how much it has helped me. My husband has actually made a few comments about me and my keyboard but we are old enough and far enough along in our relationship to deal with it. He has his things and I have mine and we're good with that.

Your son needs to know you are there for him. If Dad can't be there it is a good thing for you to be. I know this from experience. However, you don't want to put all the pressure on your daughter to be responsible for making dinner. She will resent it later. Unless of course, she likes doing that sort of thing. Then it's a perfect opportunity for her to shine.

When I was in this exact same situation I choose to get up earlier in the morning to do my exercises. It helped my day go smoother and gave me more energy to make it through the day.

Sorry that I don't have any miracle cures. I wish you the best and know that you will do the best for you and your family.

Cheryl emoticon
