School starts tomorrow! Yippee! Hooray! Hurrah!!

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Why am I so happy that school starts tomorrow? Because I'm not going!! Hee hee!! I started back to college in 2000 (my son was one year old) to get a second degree. I was not using my Bachelor of Business Administration in the job I had and it didn't like I would any time soon. However, engineering looked good to me. So, I decided to go back to school and get my engineering degree.

When I started, I was planning to be an Electrical Engineer (EE). EE's (apparently) brains are wired differently than most people. I thought "Hey, I'm certainly different. I'll be an EE!"! I am wired differently, but not like an EE!! LOL! So, I switched to Mechanical Engineering. So much better for me. I actually got the material and enjoyed studying it (most of the time).

So, once I had my major figured out, all I had to do was take all of the classes. While working full-time, raising two kids and taking care of DH when he shattered his ankle two years into it. (Long story for another time). After 8 years I finally finished. I love having my degree but I love NOT going to school more!!! LOL!!

The other great part about school starting? My kids are going!! They won't be home to call me and tattle and ask if they can have a Face Book account (NO!) and whatever else they can think of. I'm looking forward to a fairly quiet phone day least until they get home. emoticon

One good thing about work...

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Yes, only one! LOL! For me, work put me back into my "rut" where I actually practice good habits. I ate more regularly today than I did for my entire vacation. I made better snack choices and I was even in my calorie range! Granted, I'm a little hungry right now, but I think that is because I'm so used to eating way too much. It's almost bed time, so I will survive!

Today was my first day back to work after a week off. I came back to almost 900 unread e-mails. That does not count the couple hundred that were automatically moved to other folders. I spent most of the day trying to whittle that number down. I now only have about 150 unread e-mails and have enough memory freed up that I can send e-mails! Success!!!! Tomorrow I'll need to do some actual work! LOL!

Ewwww. I get freaked out when I see 68 emails in my inbox. I couldn't imagine all of yours. So, that answers my question about how it's going. I'll be thinking of you kiddo. Seriously, you should just stop by my team. It won't hurt anything to join (will waive the membership fees for YOU and YOU only) and you don't HAVE to get into any of the discussions. Would love to see you come over.

Take care and let me know how the new super is treating you. I'll come kick his arse if he's too hard on you!

Take it easy Cupcake, No need to rush into it or anything. LOL.

I'm glad you found at least one thing good about work. Good luck with day #2, and if it's a crappy day you know what you can do with #2!

Flush your troubles down the drain.

Have a super great day

Sunny beaches, the vacation is over!

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Man, did this week ever fly! I am SO not ready to go back to work. I ended up doing something and going somewhere EVERY day this week. I really wanted to sit and read my book (and hopefully nod off!) and that really didn't happen. I did get about an hour in today (no nodding, tho) and that was nice. But I didn't read nearly as much as I'd hoped for. Oh well. emoticon

Wait, maybe that means I need to take some more time off! When the kids are back in school and DH is at work. emoticon Yay! Something to look forward to! LOL!

thanks for keeping us in the loop during your vacation.
It certainly sounded exciting and BUSY.

Hope your time back in the saddle at work was good.
I used to hate the jobs that you get a vacation and you still have to do all the catch up when you get back. Like not having a vacation at all.

Have a great week

I agree, I always need a vacation to recover from vacation. So that is what I plan. I always make sure I get back early so that I have a full day at home to lounge and relax before I have to go back to work. Sorry you didn't get any read time in but make up for that today!

Bunco and me

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Every month (or so) a group of us get together to eat, drink and be merry. We use Bunco as the excuse. We all bring something edible to share and our own drinks. As always, I took my peanut butter balls. My drinks of choice tonight were one Mojito (in a bottle) and a really big tea. I drink the alcohol first so that by the time Bunco is over, there are no lingering effects.

Generally, I am one of the loudest people in the group (I can hear the collective gasp from all my faithful readers! LOL!) Tonight, however, I was NOT the most obnoxious member of the group. One other lady was louder AND she stomped on the floor when she did good. (That last part wasn't so good...we were on the third floor of an apartment building. I think the downstairs neighbors might have been getting irritated...)

We had bon bons, meatballs (delish!), Dibs, spinach dip with bread, seven-layer dip with chips, watermelon and cupcakes. No, I did not eat EVERYTHING...just some of most of it. At "half-time" I did not have any more food. I actually didn't feel good! emoticon

My final score was not enough to win the pot, but it wasn't low enough to have to wear the low-score chicken necklace! YAY!! I also did not get the last bunco, so I didn't get the hostess gift. But, you know what, it was okay. I had a blast and get to go again next month!!! Yippee!!

A day at the fair with chocolate-covered bacon!

Saturday, August 22, 2009

Okay, so there was no chocolate-covered bacon at my fair. At least, none that I found. Not that I was looking that hard for it! The unusual thing I saw at the fair was deep-fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. emoticon I'd rather have the bacon!! No, we didn't get any. My son can't have the bread and my daughter made a face when we read the sign. emoticon

We got to the fair about 12:30 and the kids went directly to the carnival. They rode a few rides before we headed to the magician and then the hypnotist. Both were really funny and entertaining and I'm glad we watched them. After the hypnotist, we got food. She had a corn dog and an ice cream cone. He had a hot dog (no bun) with grilled onions and pickles. I had a Junior Angus Cheeseburger and we all shared some fries. They rode more rides afterward and surprisingly didn't puke! I almost did just listening to them describe the rides. emoticon

The whole time they were riding the rides, I was sitting in the shade reading my book (G-Free Diet, A Gluten-Free Survival Guide by Elizabeth Hasselbeck). I enjoyed it very much! I even paid attention to the book so that I got some refreshers and even some new knowledge.

After the fair, I took the kids to the Arctic Circle for shakes and I got a corn dog. You'd think I would learn to just eat the corn dog at the fair and then I won't be disappointed by the other food! Oh well...I got my fix in (for $1.29 instead of $3!). I have $10 left (to be used for gas) and then I will officially be broke until payday! Yep, one full week away. emoticon Oh well...I'll survive!

Time to go relax and finish my book. Tomorrow is library day!!! emoticon emoticon

Sounds like you're having a great time with the kids and even getting some relaxing time in too!! Good for you! You deserve it, you're a good Mom and even though they don't know it now some day they're gonna' think they were really blessed to have you for their Mother!! Okay, enough seriousness!!! It's been really hot out there during your vacation and you haven't even gone swimming and worn that bikini?!?!?! LOL!!! What's up with that?!?!?! I saw the pictures of you and you can't fool me could get away with it easy! Guess you're just not that brave huh? Oh well, neither would I be. At 36 was the last time I wore one and I sure don't have that figure now!! LOL!!!! for sure!!! Have a great weekend!! And keep on smilin' as you SPARKLE!!

I have to admit, even though I don't eat pork, I was looking forward to a description of the chocolate-covered bacon. Strange but true.

I would think that a deep-fried PB&J would send someone's arteries into shock. And the fact that you managed (along with your kids) not to puke on any of the rides is a feat indeed!

Glad you had fun! I miss those days with my son (he's grown).

Keep your face toward the sunshine my emoticon,
