I am a planner and I like my plans...

Friday, August 28, 2009

and I don't do well when my plans are changed. Don't get me wrong, I don't go into lock-down mode or anything like that. I just get a little cranky and miffed while I try to retro-fit my plan.

Why do I bring this up you ask? (Yes, I am the great Kreskin and can read your mind!) Because my plans got changed, of course! LOL! I get paid every two weeks. So, every two weeks, I make menus and then make my grocery list based on those menus. Then I go grocery shopping. Been doing this for a couple of years now and it works really well for me. I find out about a week ago that MIL and FIL are coming to town tomorrow. Okay, good. (BTW, tomorrow is payday - read "Menus are done through Saturday, food is bought")

MIL has Celiac, just like my son. No problem. I know how to cook for that. She is also allergic to corn and pork. Tomorrow's dinner? Tacos on corn shells. emoticon No biggie, she can have a taco salad, no shell, no problem. Saturday's menu? Pork chops. emoticon Yeah, no way around that one! LOL! So, I'll be heading to the store tomorrow after work to pick up a roast and some potatoes to put in the crock pot Saturday morning. The good news is I still have pork chops for us for sometime in the next two weeks!

Cucumbers everywhere!

Thursday, August 27, 2009

One of the ladies at work has some very productive cucumber plants. Every couple of days she brings in cukes to share. I always get at least one and, if any are left when everyone else has theirs, I take the rest. Today, I used my last two. emoticon I cut one up to take in my lunch tomorrow. The other I cut up and put in a vinegar, salt and sugar mixture. emoticon

My mom always used to make cucumbers and vinegar and I loved it! She always put onions in too, but I don't have any onions. Maybe next time I have a cuke, I'll have the onion too. I've already sneaked a couple of pieces of cucumber cos I can't wait until tomorrow to eat them.

Speaking of which...time to go eat another slice and head to bed.

School starts tomorrow! Yippee! Hooray! Hurrah!!

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Why am I so happy that school starts tomorrow? Because I'm not going!! Hee hee!! I started back to college in 2000 (my son was one year old) to get a second degree. I was not using my Bachelor of Business Administration in the job I had and it didn't like I would any time soon. However, engineering looked good to me. So, I decided to go back to school and get my engineering degree.

When I started, I was planning to be an Electrical Engineer (EE). EE's (apparently) brains are wired differently than most people. I thought "Hey, I'm certainly different. I'll be an EE!"! I am wired differently, but not like an EE!! LOL! So, I switched to Mechanical Engineering. So much better for me. I actually got the material and enjoyed studying it (most of the time).

So, once I had my major figured out, all I had to do was take all of the classes. While working full-time, raising two kids and taking care of DH when he shattered his ankle two years into it. (Long story for another time). After 8 years I finally finished. I love having my degree but I love NOT going to school more!!! LOL!!

The other great part about school starting? My kids are going!! They won't be home to call me and tattle and ask if they can have a Face Book account (NO!) and whatever else they can think of. I'm looking forward to a fairly quiet phone day least until they get home. emoticon

One good thing about work...

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Yes, only one! LOL! For me, work put me back into my "rut" where I actually practice good habits. I ate more regularly today than I did for my entire vacation. I made better snack choices and I was even in my calorie range! Granted, I'm a little hungry right now, but I think that is because I'm so used to eating way too much. It's almost bed time, so I will survive!

Today was my first day back to work after a week off. I came back to almost 900 unread e-mails. That does not count the couple hundred that were automatically moved to other folders. I spent most of the day trying to whittle that number down. I now only have about 150 unread e-mails and have enough memory freed up that I can send e-mails! Success!!!! Tomorrow I'll need to do some actual work! LOL!

Ewwww. I get freaked out when I see 68 emails in my inbox. I couldn't imagine all of yours. So, that answers my question about how it's going. I'll be thinking of you kiddo. Seriously, you should just stop by my team. It won't hurt anything to join (will waive the membership fees for YOU and YOU only) and you don't HAVE to get into any of the discussions. Would love to see you come over.

Take care and let me know how the new super is treating you. I'll come kick his arse if he's too hard on you!

Take it easy Cupcake, No need to rush into it or anything. LOL.

I'm glad you found at least one thing good about work. Good luck with day #2, and if it's a crappy day you know what you can do with #2!

Flush your troubles down the drain.

Have a super great day

Sunny beaches, the vacation is over!

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Man, did this week ever fly! I am SO not ready to go back to work. I ended up doing something and going somewhere EVERY day this week. I really wanted to sit and read my book (and hopefully nod off!) and that really didn't happen. I did get about an hour in today (no nodding, tho) and that was nice. But I didn't read nearly as much as I'd hoped for. Oh well. emoticon

Wait, maybe that means I need to take some more time off! When the kids are back in school and DH is at work. emoticon Yay! Something to look forward to! LOL!

thanks for keeping us in the loop during your vacation.
It certainly sounded exciting and BUSY.

Hope your time back in the saddle at work was good.
I used to hate the jobs that you get a vacation and you still have to do all the catch up when you get back. Like not having a vacation at all.

Have a great week

I agree, I always need a vacation to recover from vacation. So that is what I plan. I always make sure I get back early so that I have a full day at home to lounge and relax before I have to go back to work. Sorry you didn't get any read time in but make up for that today!
