The Ice Caves will never be the same!

Tuesday, August 18, 2009 I messed with the schedule. But, I'm on vacation, so that's allowed! LOL! The kids and I headed to the Ice Caves today. It took 2 1/2 hours to get there and another 2 1/2 hours back. We spent about 1 1/2 hours there. But, the kids had fun, so it was worth it. We made it back in plenty of time for daughter's 3:00 volleyball practice, so no stress there either. Oh, and for you unseasoned travelers, here's a little tip. Do NOT eat refried beans the night before a really long car trip. You seasoned travers know what I'm talking about !! LOL!

Here are some pics.

My son and his cousin at dinner last night. Scary how much they look (and act!) alike!

Face in the rocks at the Ice Caves.

One of the collapsed portions of the tunnels near the ice caves.

My son and I in front of the HUGE Indian!

My daughter and I "voguing" in front of the Indian. Or maybe we were being gangstas! I can never tell the difference!! LOL!

Donna, these are for you! The stalactite (stalagmite??) on the left weighs all of 10 pounds! The one on the right is about 6 pounds. They are full of air-filled lava. They are about three feet only an inch or so shorter than me! LOL!

Lots of fun, but tiring. Need a nap or two now! pictures! They are so cute in their little helmets. Tee hee!!

Glad you guys had FUN

i was a bit worried about the last part of the first paragraph and the first line of the next.

You mentioned the fact about eating refried beans and then my real worries came to live.

you then said that you had photos

i thought , what were YOU thinking
taking photos of the effects of refried beans, LMAO

oh, well, don't tell me you didn't expect that comment,

thanks for the update
keep having FUN on your vacation
ready to go back to work yet?

Wow! The pictures are really cool! I can't believe you actually posted them and thank you so much! It's nice to see you having a good time with your little slaves! LOL!! And I know that they will cherish the memories some day down the road. Science lesson: If it comes up from the ground it is a stalagmite....down from the ceiling, it's a stalactite. And it's actually formed from the dripping mineral-rich water in the caves. Are those ice? You said they were full of lava? That's amazing, never seen anything like it! By the way, your kids are adorable and I must say all that hard work you've been doing has paid off, because you look great yourself!!! Glad you're enjoying your vacation and thanks so much for sharing!!

Visit with Bro and Moms

Monday, August 17, 2009

My big brother went camping in the mountains in Idaho for the past week. He's staying the night in town before driving home to Washington. Since he was in town, my family and I met him and his family and my mom (okay, our mom, but I'm her favorite...daughter...named Barbara....only daughter) for dinner. Went to a very good Mexican restaurant and ate the whole meal. Yeah, too much.

After dinner, we went back to their hotel and let the kids swim in the pool. It was only 70'F, so WAY to cold to swim, but what do I know! Kids had a blast!

We came home a little early so that we could get to bed early. Going to the Ice Caves tomorrow. It's a long drive and we have to be back by 3:00 for practices. Should be a good day!

Later taters!

I'm so glad you're having a great time! Loved how you tied in "Idaho" with "Later taters!"

Okay, we know that you're the "favorite" on CKs, do you have to be the "favorite" daughter, too? Oh, well, since you're the ONLY daughter, I guess you can get by with that one. LOL!

Hope you have fun at the Ice Caves...gonna take pics?

Vacation plans...mark your calendars!!

Sunday, August 16, 2009

Mark your calendars so you know what to be jealous of me for on each day! LOL!

Sunday - sleep in. DH will make breakfast. Gym time. Reading. Dinner with my brother, his wife and kids. They live in Oregon...or is it Washington?... now so we don't see them much.

Monday - Sleep in. Gym. Take boy to football practice. Take girl to volleyball practice. Take me to softball practice. Plenty of down time for naps and reading!

Tuesday - lunch with a friend. She's writing an article on gluten-free eating and wants to interview me and my son since he has Celiac. Eye appt for daughter and me. Practices for kids, none for me. Oh and I'll be going to the gym before lunch.

Wednesday - Repeat Monday without SB practice.

Thursday - Get up early and go to gym. Make lunches and gather kids. We are going to the Shoshone Ice Caves!!!! I went there with my family about a billion years ago and thought it was really cool. Taking my kids now.

Friday - Get up early and go the gym. Western Idaho Fair starts today and we are going! Kids have wrist bands so they can ride unlimited rides! I have a book that I can read while they ride. Win - win!!

Saturday - Sleep in, gym. Son has a birthday party to go to that afternoon and I have Bunco. I'll need to make peanut butter balls or they won't let me in! LOL!

Sunday - Sleep in. Depression sinks in. Find clothes to wear to work. Fix lunch for work. Reflect on week's vacation and pretend work doesn't exist.

Of course, if the lottery ticket I bought tonight pays off, all bets are off and new vacation plans will be made! Meaning, they will be longer! Still taking the kids everywhere I promised!

So...tell me your favorite day and I'll be sure to think of you while I'm reveling in my laziness! Photos may be involved too...but nothing that will get pulled! Right Dutchie? LOL!

Even though I don't work anymore, I guess Thursday would be my day because I wish I could take my kids and grand kids there. But it's not something I could do now. sad but true. So think kindly of me and take a few pictures if they'll let you. And I want one with YOU standing next to one of those stalagmites or stalactites. LOL! Seriously, though sounds like you have a great vacation planned and I really hope you have a great week!

I'm jealous. Period. Not gonna mask it. But at the same time, I'm happy for you! Sounds like you're going to wring every last drop of enjoyment out of this.

Ah, how do you make "peanut butter balls?" I love peanut butter. Maybe their like the "Buckeyes" I make? Let me know when you get a chance. Sounds yummy. And YES post pictures! I love pics! I'm a picture hussy (to borrow a term from one of my dear spark friends....)!

Enjoy your wonderful day!

My workplace is gonna miss me!

Friday, August 14, 2009

But I am not missing it back!! Today was my last day of work until Monday the 24th! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Of course, the day couldn't go smoothly. I work in a manufacturing plant that has been going through downsizing of people and upsizing of builds. (Did you know that causes resource conflicts?) Because we have fewer people and more work, we have to play priority wars. It's like thumb wars but not really. Yesterday, I lost the thumb...I mean priority...war. No biggie. I lose all of the time. BUT (and that's a big BUT!), the deal was that I would win this morning. That's not quite how it happened.

Production (I work in, I am not exactly like Dilbert. He's electrical, I'm mechanical.) had taken the machine that my process guy had scheduled and they were running some very low priority stuff. Just as they were finishing, the boss of the production and engineering folks (but not my boss) told them to run something else. Again, not the winner of the priority war (cos, remember, that's me right now!)!!! I did what any other professional engineer/project manager would do. I tattled to my boss! emoticon (Yeah, the big boss who butted in line got in trouble from the bigger boss)

Eventually my stuff was ran through the line...wrong. The really bad part was that it was my fault!!! I totally told them to run it one way and I was wrong, wrong, wrong!!! While I was trying to figure out how to save my fubar, another snafu occurred...we ruined some other product. Again! Two days in a row we had the same error at the same step and we still don't know why. Of course, my job is to tell corporate all of the bad news. The guy I needed to talk to was out of office today, so I sent him an e-mail. Kinda the chicken way out, but I couldn't leave it for anyone else to do and it most certainly could NOT wait a week.

Anyway, the bad stuff is over and I am home and I am not going back for over a full week! Oh, and I am sleeping in tomorrow as late as I want...or 1:30 pm, whichever comes first. Have to get daughter from friend's house by 2:00. Otherwise I might not get up at all! LOL!!

STEELERCRAZY 8/15/2009 11:09AM that the sweet sigh of relief I hear? Ah, yes, the snappy clock-out and race to the parking lot. Leaving fresh skidmarks on the pavement is just ONE of the perks of being the one that everybody envies. Lower lips will quiver...some will even plaster their faces to the window while clutching their chests. BUT WHO GIVES A CRAP?!? YOU'RE FREE!! HAHA, YES! Eat THAT!

Have a great GREAT GREAT week off...polish your crown, eagerly rub your hands together in anticipation of opening my presents, follow people around the mall in paranoid ecstacy! Whatever your heart desires, do it with gusto.

I got your back. Have fun, little one. You deserve it.

Seriously though, have a great week off and enjoy yourself! You are one lady that definitely deserves to relax and have a great vacation! Enjoy!!

Have a great week off Dilbert/Barbara, LMAO

Enjoy your time away from the rat race and maybe you should do some gardening, to make that missin' thumb, GREEN.

Whatever you do, leave the worries behind you.

Have a great week - isn't it funny that when we have time off the first thing we want to do is sleep in? I do the same thing: I've gotten so used to sleeping late these past three weeks that beginning the fall semester on Monday is going to be a chore: 7am class!

Keep your face toward the sunshine (or just pull the blinds closed!),

I finally did it and MAN do I feel GREAT!!!

Friday, August 14, 2009

A little bit of a back story first. Every day that I can, I eat my lunch on the patio outside at work. It is my time to myself to finally be warm, to be left alone and to read my book (or take a nap, depending on how the day has been). Today was no different. I sat outside and was as content as a pig in slop (at least, I hear they are really content!). Walked back inside when lunch was over, reading my book the entire trip down the halls (it's a gift that I practice daily to perfect - reading and walking that is. NO, I do not read and drive...I read and listen to books on CD! But I digress.)

The second I walked into my cube, all of my happiness, contentedness, peacefulness, blissfulness left. Poof! I felt like crying! (BTW, that's one thing I hate about being a girl...the tears! UGH! So not the way to act at work!!) I realized that it was time to make a change. If my feelings of serenity could disappear that quickly, something must be horribly wrong.

Fast forward about three hours. I have a weekly meeting with my boss' boss and a few other folks. At the end of the meeting, we were discussing the reorganization that our groups are going through and the plans being discussed. The powers-that-be are locked in a never-ending two week cycle. "We'll have something for you in a couple of weeks." Anyway, at the end, after most everyone had left, I told my boss' boss that I would like to have a different lead/supervisor when the reorg was done. He said "Okay" emoticon Really?!? That's all it took? Sweet! He did ask if there was some feedback he should ask for and it sounds like I will be giving him some later.

But, wow! A new boss!! Woo HOO!!! A billion and a half tons lifted off my shoulders! I think I will like my job again! YAHOOZERS!!!!!
