Yard sale, farmer's market and jeweler, oh my!

Saturday, July 11, 2009

Okay, so the "oh my" is superfluous, but it was fun to type it (and sing it in my head! LOL) Those are my plans for the morning. I am going to get up early enough (but not TOO early) to go yard saling. I'm looking for a batting glove, maybe a new mitt (mine has lost most of it's padding), a cash box, books (always), bust specifically books 2, 3, 4 and 7 of the C.S. Lewis' series The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. When I have all seven, I'm going to reread them.

After yard saling, I'm going to swing by the local farmer's market. I really want fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. The BEST sandwich in the world is a tomato, cucumber and mayo sandwich...if the ingredients are fresh!

Then, I'll stop by the jeweler to get a new watch for my battery. The library should be open by then too and I'll do my weekly trip there. The newest Nora Roberts book is in and I get to read it first!!! Black Hills. I don't even know what it's about, but, it's Nora Roberts so it has to be good! LOL!

Sounds like you have a great day planned. And right on about the cucumber and tomato sandwiches!! My favorite too! Especially in the summer when you can get them right out of the garden still warmed by the sun! YUM-O!!! The reading sounds like fun too! And hey, you didn't do so bad at softball the other night - love your attitude! If you can't laugh, you're in serious trouble! And of course we all know that you can always LOL!!!!! Take care and have a good weekend!!

First game

Friday, July 10, 2009

My softball team's first game was tonight. We were there, warming up, watching the game before us and wondering where the team we were supposed to play was. Well, at 8:00, the other team rolled in. Excellent!! We get to play!! emoticon

First inning, their pitcher walked a bunch of us, we hit well and we ended the top of the inning up by 8. The next two innings were better for both teams (fewer walks, more hits, actual plays). Then came the last inning...we forgot how to get our mitts down. Balls took some weird hops. Close catches (okay, they were misses, but we almost caught them!). And they started hitting. We ended up losing by 3 or 4 runs. emoticon

The good news is I had fun and so did the rest of my team. I played catcher and told a couple of the guys on the other team that there is no shame in striking out. LOL!!! Luckily, they laughed too! One guy hit a pop fly behind home. I tried to catch it and my hat fell off and I missed it. Coming back to the plate, I told the guy "That did it! You made me get my hat dirty! Now I'm mad!!" He laughed and so did the ump. All in fun!!!

Next Thursday is our next game. Hopefully we can remember how to play and win this one!

    Hello again Ms. Barbara,

It's great to be back in the loop.
Probably looks like i was looped, instead, LOL
Your rendition of the game sounded like a local baseball game that we went to recently. the home team, the river city rascals were at the top of their division AND at the top of the league. the other team looked like they left their gloves, bats and brains at home, until.......

later they had them fedex'ed in quickly and they , the opposing team started kicking buttt. we left before the end of the game.

glad you are still having fun
that is the motto of the new team
gotta have some FUN everyday
no matter who you have to hurt, LOL

cya soon,
your ol' buddy

Day 2 with new puppy

Thursday, July 09, 2009

The new puppy did pretty good today. She did #2 outside (not inside!) and didn't have any accidents! We're trying to get her used to her bed and she doesn't like it. Daughter is going to sleep next to her tonight to try to keep her quiet and happy. Daughter is whining more than the dog at this point. emoticon

We'll see how they are both doing in the morning. LOL!

Isn't having a puppy wonderful? She will help you exercise more, too! I got a puppy a few months ago and I'm still taking 3 walks a day with him plus lots of backyard play time. Puppies/dogs are a great 'excuse' to get out and move!

New puppy at CartoonB's house!!

Wednesday, July 08, 2009

My DH was late coming home from work today. He called around 6:30 and asked me if dinner was ready (yes), whether I was eating (no), and whether I was dressed (yes). I knew, yep, KNEW, he had gotten a new puppy. Sure enough. She is a 10-week old Boxer. We named her Abby. Very cute! Both of her parents are papered, so we can register her as well. I think the registration part is just icing for DH. He had a boxer growing up and has been wanting another for about 200 years! LOL!

Here are some pics of Abby and one of our "old" puppy, Scooby.

Shopping with daughter

Monday, July 06, 2009

My daughter was down to three pairs of shorts. Granted, she rarely leaves the house, but we decided she needed new clothes. I took her to ShopKo (1/2 off!) and we started looking through the racks of clothes. There were some really cute things and some not so cute.

Luckily, she didn't even want to try on the short shorts (wouldn't have let her get them anyway!!) and I was able to talk her out of some of the things she looked at. One of the tanks was cute, but an odd color. Plus, it was a little clingy. She actually listened when I told her how much better the black one looked! emoticon You could have knocked me over with a spoon! (Okay, I think that's the wrong saying, but you know what I mean.)

We ended up getting two pairs of shorts and the black tank. Her dad (my DH) won't like the tank, but it is cute and appropriate and he'll learn to deal. emoticon
