Aaaaand....DONE!

Friday, June 05, 2009

So, we lost two out of three games, but we were still scheduled to play again. We got there and were told that we might not play until 7:15 (two hours later!). Luckily, the team that forfeited to us didn't show again so we took there spot in the brackets. Turns out, the brackets were just wrong! The team we played today also had two losses. We should have both been out of the tournament, no more games. But, since we were there, we played. About half way through the game, the director came over and let us know that win or lose, we were both done. Both teams were fine with that!

The girls played really well. They played as a team, they talked and they (mostly) made good throws. We lost by only 4 runs and the season ended on a positive note. Then, we all had to hurry home so the girls could get ready for the dance!!

So, I am done coaching for the season. Now, my team should be able to start practicing soon so I can play!! Yippee!!!

I'm glad things ended positively and what a great attitude you have! That's so wonderful because maybe you can look forward to trying it again next year! And it sounds like the girls ended up enjoying it all too and they still got to go to the dance. So that's great! Well, I guess you'll just have to come to Homedale for a visit just so you can say you've been here! Isn't everybody just dying to say they've been to Homedale? Actually we do have a pretty famous Smorgasborg and Rodeo that goes on here every year and Homedale is part of the biggest county in Idaho - Owyhee county that is. We're just a little podunk town - that' all. And for me and my son it's just right, I'll have to admit. Anyway, I'm glad everything turned out okay with the softball. Hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend!

Day 2 of the tournament

Thursday, June 04, 2009

We were scheduled to play today at 5:00 and we're playing one of the other teams from our home town. We got about 40 minutes into the game when we started seeing lightning strikes. Up until then, the girls had been playing very well. They were stopping the ball, making good throws and playing together as a team. Very nice.

Because of the lightning emoticon, all girls came off the field (duh!) and we waited. And waited. And waited. After about an hour, we got enough of a break in the weather to start back up. Unfortunately, by then, our steam had evaporated. We started back up down by 2. By the time we got our third out, we were down by 12. To continue playing, we needed to score three runs in our next at bat. We didn't score any. Game over. emoticon

However, the saga does not end here. Apparently, the double elimination was a bit of a misstatement. The double elimination is in the Loser's bracket, I guess. So, that means we play again, tomorrow, at 5:00. If we lose, we're done. If we win, we play again at 7:15. Since there is a dance in Kuna tomorrow night, I don't think our girls are going to want to play that second game. Hopefully they don't think about that until AFTER the first game is over.

So very tired now. Forgot how exhausting coaching girls can be. I'll let you know how it ends up tomorrow. If we keep winning, we will play on Saturday!!

This all looks very familiar to me. I think we're living parallel lives, lol. Hope the girls did great! Break a leg...well don't literally but you know what I mean.

    Exciting!!!
Good luck with the rest of the tournament. Either way, each participant is a WINNER.

Me on the other hand, since I did not get to participate, am a weiner, LOL

Have fun, stay safe and always remember:
If at first you don't succeed

Results of tournament, day 1

Thursday, June 04, 2009

Our first game started right at 5:00. Unfortunately, the other team only had seven girls. Need eight to play. We pitched to them. The deal was we would play until either an eighth girl showed or three outs. We got the three outs before their girl showed, so they had to forfeit. Really hated to get the win that way. But, it was a win!

Second game, not so lucky. They had a full team...plus. We did not play well. Lost. Score? Them - alot! Us - one. emoticon That's all right. We play again tomorrow at 5:00. If we win, we play again on Friday. If we lose, we're done. Go Longhorns!!

Sorry about game two but as long as everybody had fun and did their best, that's the main thing. Good luck on Thursday & Friday, either way, we're behind you! Talk about positive thinking!!!

Ohhhhh...that's what I was thinking!

Tuesday, June 02, 2009

Tonight, we had a four hour practice scheduled. Yes, four hours with 10 teenage (or almost teenage) girls. There was a huge improvement in attitude, energy level, teamwork, you name it! We worked on everything we could think of and the girls responded well. We play our first tournament game tomorrow at 5:00. If (dare I say when?) we win, we play again at 7:15. I'm rooting for a double header!!

So, all of this softball is wreaking (is that the right word?) havoc on my eating patterns. I am very used to eating breakfast, a snack, lunch, a snack, dinner. Today it was breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, snack and (much later) dinner. I stayed in my range for most every nutrient I'm tracking, even calories! Tomorrow will be interesting. I'll be packing sandwiches for me and my daughter, carrots, an apple, a banana and maybe some chips (for her). I'm too cheap to buy concession stand food and we won't have time to go anywhere else. See...I'm talking like we are definitely have a double header. How's that for positive thinking! emoticon

All right. Things to do. Places to be. Dreams to dream. I'll let you all know how we did! emoticon

GO LONGHORNS!!!

What an attitude!!! You go girl!!! So that's what you were thinking?! So does that mean you won't be coming to Homedale? Or you could always come to Homedale to celebrate!! I'd even throw some burgers on the grill! Come on now how can you resist that offer! LOL!!!! I'll be rooting for you guys tomorrow! I think it'd be great if you guys come out to be the champs!!! Good Luck!!! I'll be waiting to hear how it turns out.

What was I thinking?!?!?

Tuesday, June 02, 2009

OMG!!! Can you say AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH? Tonight was my first practice with my daughter's softball team. What a bunch of GIRLS! LOL!! They were jibber-jabbering the entire time. Sometimes, the jibber-jabber was mean-spirited, sometimes it was dorky, but NEVER was it softball related. Tomorrow is going to be SOOOOO different!

We are going to run drills. We are going to have "real" game-like situations and see how they do. And every negative comment will result in physical activity. Either pushups or situps or running or mountain climbers or burpees!!! Yeah! They are going to be positive if it kills them!! (Or me!) emoticon

I give up....what were you thinking? Personally, I don't think you were! But you didn't ask me did you? Or yeah I guess you did! Well, look at it this way...it's going to be an experience you'll never forget!!! And not only will it be a physical challenge if you join in the practice, but it will definitely be a mental challenge!! And when it's all over, you can always get away by making that trip to Homedale!!! Ya Hoo!!! But you could come to meet me and not just so you could say you've been to Homedale! I'd love that!
