Day 2 and Week 2, Day 3

Day 2 - No diet pepsi. Still no headaches and no real cravings. Weekends are harder all the way around, so we'll see how I do tomorrow.

Week 2, Day 3 - Pushups. Man! Those pushups are hard! And they keep expecting me to do more than I did in week 1! Some people...jeez! emoticon My progress test will be tomorrow. My goal is to stay in the same column as I am now. That's a lot of pushups!!

One of the trainers at my gym mentioned a 5k that just happens to be next weekend. I started thinking that maybe I should sign up. Then I wondered if I could run a 5k, no stopping. In my head I can, but in my head I could also do 24 pushups two weeks ago. (My head was WRONG!!!) Tonight, I decided to do a running workout instead of elliptical. The plan was to run for a full 30 minutes or 3.1 miles, whichever came first. At 30 minutes, I had around three quarters to half a mile to go, so I kept going. Ended up doing the 3.1 in 33.5 minutes. Not as good as I wanted, but at least I did it!

Son's birthday party is tomorrow, so I'd better go bake the cake. With him having celiac, the days of buying a cake at the bakery are long gone. *sigh* Oh well, this chocolate cake tastes just like chocolate cake! YUM!

    That's so awesome that you were able to run the 3.1 miles in 33 minutes! I'd say you should definitely sign up for that 5k if you want to.

    Good work on your training! I am envious that you ran that fast on your first try - lol. It took me a couple of months to get that speed - which is about where I am now.

No Diet Pepsi, Day 1

...and no headaches. Odd. I'm not complaining, but I was expecting to need some sort of pain killers to get through the day. I was also expecting stronger cravings than I had. In fact, I had no cravings. I did drink more tea than normal (and more water) so I had caffeine. I'm not silly enough, however, to think that it's smooth sailing from here on out. We'll see how tomorrow goes.

Tired today

Woke up today sore, but not from my work out. I slept wrong and my neck has a kink in it. Still does! When I got home from work, my daughter reminded me that we had a conference at her school at 6:00 (it was 5:56!). Luckily it was a student-led conference and she's a fairly good student, so no huge issue that we were late. We were there almost an hour, so I started dinner an hour late.

My eyes started crossing half way through making dinner. Still tired now, but not quite ready for bed. I'll go sit on the couch and veg for a little bit. Then I'll be ready for bed!

My baby turned 10 today. He's not a baby anymore, but he is still my baby. We'll have his party on Saturday. He and his friends will dress in their best Army Man gear and celebrate. I'm sending them on a foray! Terrorists (generic bad guys, no specific country or ethnicity!) have kidnapped Shalomar (his anatomically correct baby boy he got from Grandma a couple of years ago) and they must follow the clues to bring the child back safely! I'll send them to some of the houses on our cul-de-sac and that will give me some time in the house to finish the set up. When he turned five, they were pirates on a treasure hunt. At least this year they can read instead of having to follow the pictures! emoticon

I still went to the gym and did Day 2 of Week 2 of the 100 push up challenge. OMG!!! The 3rd set was hard and I actually had to rest between pushups before I could finish the whole set. Rested more than prescribed between sets and for some reason thought I only had one more set. Imaging my consternation when I realized I still had 12 more pushups AND the max set to go!! Took me 6 tries to get the minimum 17 in for the last set. Now my right bicep feels like if I flex it, there will be a blow out. emoticon Good thing I'm not due to do Day 3 until Friday. I think I'm going to need the recovery time! After Friday, it's time for the progress test. I want to stay in the same column for week 3 that I was in for the first two weeks. That's my short term goal. If I feel myself flagging...I'll remember shooting off my yapper at work! I will do 100 pushups!!! emoticon

I have a very hard time with pushups. We did pushups in my bosu class yesterday and boy did my arms feel like goo! :-)

For being early in the month, I have a lot I want to tell y'all!

First, I made a new recipe for the family tonight. They like my "regular" chili, so I thought I would make White Chili. Basically, white beans, onions, chilies and chicken. That's it. Simple and easy and sounded yummy. I made som GF corn bread to go with it (cos I was craving corn bread!). My son, who likes EVERYTHING, almost puked on his first bite. My hubby ate a serving but gave it a no vote (new recipes don't become permanent without all yes votes) and my daughter had one spoonful. She said it was allright, but too spicy. So, guess who has chili for leftovers for awhile?!? Good thing there is room in the freezer! Told DH that he and the kids needed to come up with a healthy dinner entree recipe now. I'm tired of finding new things just to have no one like them.

Second, I made a HUGE decision today. I've decided to stop drinking Diet Pepsi. It is the only soda I drink and I'm sure I drink more of it than I should. Today I had a one liter bottle with lunch and a can of DP during a meeting. I would have had another can with dinner, but decided I'd better start cutting back now so the headaches won't be so bad in the future (I hope!). I have two more one liter bottles in the fridge. My plan is to drink them for the next two days and then quit cold turkey on Thursday. If I'm cranky at the end of the week, you'll know why! emoticon

Third, I convinced my daughter that she should come with me to the gym. Softball starts soon and she's playing up a level. I told her that she isn't going to be ready to play if she doesn't start getting some physical activity in. She rode the bike for a full half hour. Not a great work out the way she did it, but at least she was there. Since much of the running in SB is in sprints, I decided we should do sprints on the treadmill after our workout. Please note that I am 5'1" (on a good day) and my 12-year old daughter is 5'6" and growing. I started her "sprinting" at 5.0. What a joke!! She barely had to move to go that speed. So we bumped it to 6.0, then 6.5, then 8.0. She decided she wanted to do one more sprint and bumped it to 10.0 and she still wasn't really sprinting!! We are so going to the track on Saturday and sprinting 1/4 laps. That girl can have some speed if she works on it just a little bit. Oh, the best part, she asked if we were going back to the gym tomorrow!! Yay!!

Last (and sorry for the length of this blog. Told you I had a lot to say!!) Working on the 100 pushup thing. One of the guys at work did his initial test yesterday. One has done only one workout. The lady I dragged into the challenge is one day behind where she should be (not bad) and my other friend (yep, I have two!) decided to join and did her initial test today! So cool to see how many people are getting in on this challenge. Thanks for the idea ZIRCADIA!!

Okay, I'm done. Need to go finish my book so I can go to sleep. C ya on the flip side!

    I had to give up the diet pepsi too, I was totally addicted. I wouldn't even try to drink one! I only drink water, iced tea and coffee. Good luck.
