It is strang that your favorute place to be is the tropics, but you fear drowning. I guess you are just going to the beach and not into the ocean. I love to swim but I do not like swimmming in the ocean, it is a sharks dinner table!

I, too, am scared of drowning...

How old is your car? I'm driving a '96 Camry with about 180,000 miles on it...
Everything's manual and I swear it's falling apart, but the engine keeps going and going. Love that car and hope it'll keep going for a while longer.

Thanks for sharing. Might steal this...

I took time for myself today

Friday, February 18, 2011

DD had a doctor's appointment (sport's physical) at 4:00. I decided that I needed to leave work at noon so that I had plenty of time to drive home (25 minutes) get her and drive back to the doctor (25 minutes). If you are too tired to do that math in your head, that means I had three hours of time that I built in as a cushion. emoticon

So what did I do with my extra time? I took myself out to lunch. Small burger. Small fries. Then I got the emissions on my truck checked....means I don't have to go get it done tomorrow! Then I came home and finished reading my book...and started another one! By then, it was time to take DD to the doctor. But, that couple of hours to myself was wonderful!

And then...tomorrow, I have nothing I absolutely have to do! I will be going to the gym and to the library. Those are things I want to do, so not have to dos. emoticon I might clean the bathroom and start auctions. I might not. I might take a shower before it's time to go to dinner...I might not. I WILL sleep in. That's a given! emoticon

Hope you all have a stupendous day!!

Hope yours is a good day today too and that there is some ease about it (knowing that you are such a busy lady) plus a little bit of sunshine

I'm a reader, aren't I?

Sunday, February 13, 2011

So why is it taking me so long to read this book? I got "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" from the library last Saturday. I am now on page 285 out of 563. So just over half way through. I used to read a book like this in under a week! What happened?

The first thing I can think of is that I no longer read while I work out on most days. I now meet my friend at oh-dark-thirty and we talk while we sweat. Or we don't, depending on how tired we are! LOL! But I don't read. I also don't get to sit on my bum and read in the evening...or on the weekend.

Instead, I read while I walk to the cafeteria for tea in the morning and back and forth at lunch and while I eat my lunch. Yes...I read and walk and no, I don't read when I drive (I listen to books on CD instead!). And, I have never (knock wood) run into a wall or a person. I've had some close calls...when the other person was cutting a corner and not paying attention. emoticon

Anyway...I want to sit and I want to read and I want to not be responsible for all this other stuff I have to do. Maybe I need to be a proofreader for some big publishing house...but only have to read the stuff I like. Think that could happen?

Funny, I used to read a lot more in my bedroom at night. I'm noticing that reading decreased when DH got me a new bedroom TV for my anni-birth-mas in December. Whoops. I'm not one to ready while I work out either -- too busy trying not to pass out :)

I totally hear you. My stack of unread books is growing. I'm too tired at night to read and there's no time during the day. I can't even stay caught up with the 3 magazines I buy.
I've often thought about being an editor so I could have some time to read.

I used to read so much more than I do now. I still read, but mostly articles or blogs on the Internet rather than whole books. Now I tend to buy audio-books and listen to them. I never did master the art of walking and reading. I need to sit quietly in order to be able to concentrate on what I'm reading.

Hope you get that *ideal* proofreader's job! emoticon

If you're like many of us, if you sat on your bum outside, you'd be sitting on a big pile of snow.

Me on the other hand, can't walk and chew gum at the same time! I can't imagine reading while walking OR working out.

Keep up your great efforts, soon enough the sun will be shining and you will be reading AGAIN

Have a HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY and a Great Week too!

I put reading at the top of my priority list when I retired. After 20some years of teaching I could only read in the summers while trying to catch up on housecleaning, etc. I have now made it one of my goals to read AT LEAST 20 minutes a day!!! LOVE IT!! Take a day--play hooky from other responsibilities and read that book!

Busy, busy everywhere!

Friday, February 11, 2011

And not a minute to think! Dang!

Work is busy and looking to get busier. My department works with subcons and the products I work with are being shipped to the subcons at an alarmingly fast rate! Although, not as fast as the powers-that-be would like! LOL! What this means for me is lots of late-night meetings (to talk to the subcons) and lots of early mornings (to get work done) and lots of meetings in between to keep everyone updated. emoticon

Then, when I get home, I have all of the normal home stuff, but I've also started a new project. My truck is 12 years old (same age as my fact, we got them both in the same month of the same year!). My DD is 14 and thinks she should be allowed to learn how to drive. The combination of these two things tells me that it's time to start thinking about a new vehicle.

Unfortunately, new vehicles cost money and I really do NOT want to have huge car payments. We haven't had a car payment in almost seven years and I like it that way! The way to keep payments down (or eliminated altogether) is to have a nice down payment. Which leads to my new project. I've been selling stuff on eBay. DH brings home stuff that probably won't sell in his shop and has me list them. I pay him back what he paid for it and the profit goes to my new car fund. Nice, huh?

And so far, I've done well. The only bad thing is that I have to use what I've saved to fix the truck I have now. Major wheel alignment is needed and at least one new tire. emoticon Oh least I can pay for it!

Two pieces of good news wrt to a new vehicle. We have a bill that is ~$400 per month that will be paid off in July. At least a portion of that could be applied to a new vehicle if needed. PLUS, DD will be allowed to take Driver's Ed if she has satisfactory grades AND no behavioral problems. And guess what? F's are not acceptable! And since that is what she has in Math, she's not going to be driving any time soon! Gives me that much more time to save up for a new car! LOL!

See...look hard enough and you can always find a silver lining!

How old does your DD have to be to take driver's ed? In NH they have to be very close to their sixteenth birthday to even get in the class.
I have to say that my son has done very well this winter being a new driver and having to contend with the weather. Baptism under fire.
Holding out for grades and good behavior is a great plan.

I did it! But I don't have to do it again...

Sunday, February 06, 2011

A couple of weeks ago, I blogged about a menu item at one of our local restaurants. It was a Peanut Butter Burger. A hamburger patty with hickory smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion, mayo and, of course, peanut butter.

I was intrigued when I read that but immediately discarded it from my choices. But as the day went on, and the days turned into weeks, I kept thinking about the dang peanut butter burger!

So...DH and I headed to the Ram for dinner tonight and I ordered that darn burger! And I ate it!! The whole darn thing! And it was tasty! I'm glad I ate it. Now it no longer has it's hold on me!

The good news is that I don't have to eat it again. It was okay, but not habit forming. Now on to Super Bowl food!
