Swimsuit shopping

Friday, June 24, 2011

I've been wearing the same swimsuit now for about ten years. Maybe twelve. In that time, my weight has fluctuated up and down sixty pounds. The inner lining is still in great shape! However, the outside part can easily be stretched over a foot all of the way around! emoticon. Might be time for a new one.

Since this one lasted so long, I decided to go back to the same place and buy a similar suit. I threatened my kids that I was going to get a string bikini. My sweet dear son told me that the thought of his mother in a string bikini made him want to puke. emoticon. Nice kid, huh?

Anyway, I was looking for a tank-style suit with upper body support that was flattering (well, relatively flattering. After all, it is a swimsuit!). As soon as I walked in, one of the sales people came over and asked me if I needed any help. I explained what I wanted and she directed me to the right rack. She even guessed my size right! Of course she was about 18 and a size zero, but I let that slide off my back. I was 18 once. I'm much happier at...more than 18! emoticon

The sales lady explained the differences in some of the suits and then went away to let me check them out on my own (plus two kids). I grabbed about eight suits and tried them all on. The first suit, a dark purple tank with cross straps in the back, was a maybe. Then a whole bunch of "no's"! The last suit was a dark blue tank with white piping. The straps were actually two straps each (white) and crossed in the back. It comes up high enough in the front that I feel comfortable moving around in it. That was the winner!

I got dressed, gathered the kids, paid for my suit and walked out of there one happy shopper! Oh...and the suit was on sale! I paid about $40 less than I had planned! Win- win for me! Now...time to hit the water park!

Way to go, Barb! I bought a swimsuit this year, too! I just adopted the mindset that I was buying "exercise equipment" not fashion. Now I just have to get up the nerve to wear it. . . .

Ugg, I hate bathing suit shopping...think mine...a 2 piece tank a little too big is about 10 years old now too.
But since I rarely go swimming, I guess I'll just put off shopping for one a little longer, haha.
And your son's comment? Reminds me of one my son made a couple years ago when I threatened to buy a red leather mini-skirt and jacket at the thrift store, haha. Not quite the same, but close. His classic quote? "Ew, Ma, that's just WRONG!"

Pictures of my new table and chairs

Sunday, April 17, 2011

The table we had had been hanging around for awhile. I think we got it about the same time as we got my DD (almost 15 years ago). It had an L-shaped bench for seats and was made of pine. It was too big for the space and it was time for a new one. Since I get a bonus on Friday, I used some of it (ahead of time!) to purchase a new table and chairs...on sale. Put them together myself too. emoticon

Here are a couple of pics. Look and enjoy and then tell me what great taste I have! LOL! emoticon

My Perfect Day

Thursday, April 07, 2011

At least in my fantasy world, this would be my perfect day. Well...fantasy world with a little reality thrown in.

First and foremost, the kids will be in school and DH will be at work. Don't get me wrong, I love my family. However, I also love my time to myself. My perfect day is my day to do what I want and that is easier if my family is otherwise occupied. emoticon

My first to-do is to sleep in until I feel like getting up. Nothing planned in the morning with a specific time. After I get up, I'll head to the gym. Yes, my perfect day includes exercise.

After the gym, home to get ready and putter until I get hungry. Then it's lunch by myself wherever I want. And more than likely it will be too much food and it will be unhealthy food. Think Chinese buffet or greasy cheeseburger (with bacon!) and fries with fry sauce or ranch. Plus dessert...or dessert later. Depends on how I feel.

Then off for some shopping. I may or may not actually buy anything. Depends on what I find and how much it costs. Mid-afternoon will be a break to sit and read. It might be in a coffee shop (I'd order tea) or a bookstore or home. If at home, I might fall asleep. Not a bad thing!

When I'm ready, I'd head home for dinner. Ideal would be ordering something in or bringing something home so I wouldn't have to cook. And, of course this would be on a Friday so I can stay up late if I want to.

Someone suggested a massage and that sounds heavenly. However, I've never had one and wouldn't know where to go for a good one, plus knowing what kind to ask for. I know I could ask people and get some good ideas. But that's kind of research and I'm not so sure I want to have to research my perfect day.

By the way, going to attempt this next Friday. Wish me luck!

I hope you had your perfect day and it was perfect!!! A tip for eating the the food you love: split it up. Eating small portions about an hour apart uses more calories. So, take your time at the big meal. When I go to a buffet, I take something to do so I can take breaks between "courses." I don't kill my calories and I get my money's worth.

Your fantasy day does sound good. I work a schedule where I have every other Friday off. (Other days I work 9 hours instead of 8.) My husband works the same schedule except he has every other Monday off. It works out just great. I love being by myself on those precious Fridays. Even if I just clean house and grocery shop, I love moving around at my own speed and stopping whenever I feel like it to read or listen to the radio. Sometimes on my Friday, I take myself out to lunch. Sometimes I go to the coffee shop. I hope you have lots of perfect days in your future.

Thanks for sharing YOUR perfect day. You just go ahead and have that tasty burger because you eat so healthily 99% of the time that you can afford to 'splurge' once in a great while. Just don't let any SP friends ruin it for you.
P.S. No research involved - I can give you the name of a nice place to get a massage. And it's right by Java downtown. emoticon

I understand the concept of a perfect day and getting to do what you want, but why would you choose too much, poor quality food (i.e., greasy cheeseburger, Chinese buffet) - that just doesn't sound appetizing. I totally understand the concept of treating yourself to food that may be higher calorie, higher fat and higher salt than usual - but I would pick good quality food and eat only to satisfaction (not to the point of feeling like I'd had too much).

Personally I'd skip the greasy food... but then, it's your perfect day, not mine.

I took time for myself today

Friday, February 18, 2011

DD had a doctor's appointment (sport's physical) at 4:00. I decided that I needed to leave work at noon so that I had plenty of time to drive home (25 minutes) get her and drive back to the doctor (25 minutes). If you are too tired to do that math in your head, that means I had three hours of time that I built in as a cushion. emoticon

So what did I do with my extra time? I took myself out to lunch. Small burger. Small fries. Then I got the emissions on my truck checked....means I don't have to go get it done tomorrow! Then I came home and finished reading my book...and started another one! By then, it was time to take DD to the doctor. But, that couple of hours to myself was wonderful!

And then...tomorrow, I have nothing I absolutely have to do! I will be going to the gym and to the library. Those are things I want to do, so not have to dos. emoticon I might clean the bathroom and start auctions. I might not. I might take a shower before it's time to go to dinner...I might not. I WILL sleep in. That's a given! emoticon

Hope you all have a stupendous day!!
