Unexpected texts

Friday, January 07, 2011

As many of you already know, I celebrated my birthday on January 6th. The twelfth day of Christmas. My 21st anniversary of my 21st birthday. Overall, a very good day. However, it was a day of unexpected texts.

First, my older brother wished me a happy birthday by commenting on how old I was. Please note, I did say *older* brother. Dork. Oh...did I mention that he sent me that text on January 5th? The eleventh day of Christmas. Silly brother! LOL!

Thursday morning, my workout partner sent me a HB text at our normal workout time (4:30 am). Luckily, I slept through that. It was a rest day for both of us. My family, on the other hand, called me on the way to work. I told them all goodbye before I left for work. They were all up and getting ready for the day. They just spaced it. Since the same thing happened last year, I've decided that it is. New family call me to wish me HB instead of doing it in person! LOL!

After I got to work, one of my coworkers texted/paged me with HB wishes. Really wasn't expecting that from him (yeah, a guy remembered my b-day! And he's cute! LOL,). The I got fairly regular good wishes throughout the day. The surprise texts, though, were the ones from my daughter's friends. Totally didn't expect that! Even my dad texted me! Technology rocks!

I must say that I had a pretty darn good day! Can I do it again tomorrow?

Every darn day, repeat as desired! I love technology too. As we waited in August for our overdue daughter to make her way into the world, texts came in everyday explaining, pleading and coercing her to get on with it already! It made us feel like friends and family near and far were waiting so impatiently with us!

It's hard to sleep when you can't breathe

Sunday, January 02, 2011

I have a cold or a sinus something going on. It's not too bad as long as I don't change elevation. Or lay down. Or try to breathe. Actually, while I'm awake and moving around, I really feel fine. However, laying down last night proved to be a challenge!

I'm sure my DH asked me to roll over multiple times to try to stop my snoring. Thank goodness he used that method instead of a pillow! LOL! Finally, around four this morning, I got up to fine some extra pillows. I put those behind me and slept the rest of the night sitting up. I will start sleeping tonight sitting up since I go back to work tomorrow. I need my beauty sleep! LOL!

On a different but related note, I'm taking a big ol' bag o'stuff to work with me tomorrow. I have replenishment for my Fiber One bars so I have snax for the week. I'm taking my day-by-day calendar, the rest of the unsalted peanuts, some chocolate peeps, the rest of a bag of crullers and some miscellaneous candy. I'll be loaded down going in! But it won't be loading down my bum or belly! emoticon

And so is the Neil Med Sinus rinse for getting rid of it faster. And by the way congrats on your fitness minutes! I think all of you guys that got awards for fitness minutes should each give me a few since I can't work out...Then my page wouldn't look so bad! Well, That's my two cents for what ever it's worth.

Look at me go!

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

I have a rule that Christmas decorations MUST be down (at my house, anyway) by January 6th. Since I have this week off, I decided to get the tree and decorations done today. I "let" the kids help. I even recruited my DD's friend to assist. The tree and decorations done, it was time for lunch.

After lunch, I decided it was time to tackle the pantry. MIL gave us a halogen cooker for Christmas. Very cool gift that cooks quickly and cleans easily. But, I had no place for it! Thus the reason for tackling the pantry. I
Took everything off one shelf at a time, cleaned and dried the shelf and then put stuff back. I threw away a bunch of stuff and reordered most everything. I found a spot for the new cooker and I even have some empty spaces on the shelves!

I did quit before I did the top two shelves. It was after two in the afternoon and I hadn't taken a shower yet. And I had gone to the gym....I *really* needed that shower!

BTW, I also started fifteen auctions before I worked on the tree! Did I mention that I also took a 30 minute nap? Cos I did! I needed that too!

Tomorrow's plans? Gym. Shower. Read. Yep, that's it! I earned a day off!

What do you really want for Christmas?

Monday, December 27, 2010

When I am shopping for someone for a gift, whether it's for Christmas or a birthday or whatever, I like to have a list. Please tell me what you want and I will do what I can to find it for you. Please don't make me guess. I *want* to get you something that you will like.

In that vein, I always try to have a list of things I wouldn't mind having. From the fairly inexpensive ("Here Come The Mummies" CD) to the outrageously expensive, don't expect to get (Insanity Workout). And a few things in between.

so this year, when DH asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I recited my list. Add warm gloves and that's the whole thing. He looked at me and said "What do you really want for Christmas" emoticon I thought I had just answered that question. A few days later, he asked me the question again. I gave him the same list. He again asked me what I really wanted. I guess I still hadn't gotten the answer right!

Fast forward to Christmas day. DH had wrapped a gift for me (he used strapping tape because he couldn't find the Scotch tape! LOL!) and made sure it got loaded with all of the other presents. When it was my turn, I opened it. Sure enough! My list was wrong. DH had gotten me an iPad!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

So, I've been playing with my iPad for the last two days. I got all my apps downloaded, all of my songs, a whole bunch of free books and all sorts of other stuff. I can even Spark from it! Now I don't have to fight with anyone for computer time! Woo Hoo!! I didn't know that I wanted an iPad. Good thing I married my DH, huh? Cos he knows some good stuff!

BTW...still gonna get myself some really warm gloves. emoticon emoticon

GRACEFULIFE 12/29/2010 3:58PM

I say don't go for really warm gloves, because they mess up your mobility anyway, and your fingers still eventually freeze if you ski in them. After a few years of wearing military gloves I realized the genius but that even they could be improved upon. So my current, and I feel fairly optimal, solution is a pair of midweight gloves with grip nubs that I wear most of the time i.e. driving, leave me dexterous enough to deal with a wallet, can still shove my hands into my pockets. Then, for periods of expected extreme cold with long exposure, or when I can't put my hands in pockets (no dexterity required for ski poles remember)... I also have a set of thick fleece mittens to go over top the gloves.

The only improvement now might be a windproof outer layer... hmmm.

Anyway, wow, I just totally ignored the point of your post. Heh. emoticon

That is so often the case. The things I got, well, weren't even on my list, haha. One because it wasn't something I really "needed" and the other, because I had pretty much no expectation of getting it. But I'm sure glad I got both of them.
Still trying to figure out how to use the camera though. Considering all my cameras are old manual/mechanical slrs, and the few "modern" hunks of plastic in my collection don't work, it's like going from a pre-primer reader to college level textbooks in one jump, haha!

Not the Christmas trip I was expecting

Sunday, December 26, 2010

Most every Christmas, my family and I go visit my in-laws in the mountains. They live right on the Big Lost River, right up in the mountains and they always have snow at Christmas.

This year, we were about an hour from home when the gauges on our truck went to zero. Then, about a mile later, the engine started making some very odd noises. Yep. We lost the engine. We were fifteen miles from the nearest town and it is not a large town. Thank goodness for cell phones!!!

My husband called our insurance first (smart move, huh?). Arranged for the truck to get towed back home ($300 later) and got a car reserved for the rest of the trip. I called my brother-in-law to come take us to the airport to get the car. Luckily they hadn't left yet and could come get us!!

The rest of the trip went fairly smoothly. No more car problems. No family drama. No major illnesses. The kids loved their gifts and had fun with their cousins. Even DH enjoyed himself.

Now that we're home, time to start figuring out how to spy for the towing and the repairs, but we'll figure it out. Already have a few plans in the works. The family is home, safe and happy. Plus I have a week off from work. What more can you ask for?

On the bright side - how would we remember holidays if it were not for the odd unpleasentaries of life that come our way? We have such fun each Christmas remembering those and find the nativity play accidents from when the kids were little a special treat - although once, the whole big church Christmas tree came down, and at another time they broke a dozen of glasses and almost set the church on fire... now that I'm thinking of it it was a pretty regular Christmas this year that we will hardly remember I guess (it was fun though, while it lasted...) Enjoy your week off - that's what I actually meant to say to this... emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
