Or really obsessive? LOL!
I'm leaving for Taiwan...in a little over a month. I have been checking websites for information on Taiwan, including weather, culture, geographic location, sights to see, etc.
I'm making lists of the things I need to get before I go. Another pair of dress pants. Some "dressier" tops. Wedge heel, comfortable shoes. A converter. Travel containers for my fluids. Quart bag to make sure the fluids all fit.
Making lists of what to pack. Trying to figure out what days/nights I'll be able to fit in a workout and pack accordingly. Requesting a laptop to take with me. Getting tips from coworkers on how to pack, what to see when I'm there (I do have one free day!), how to travel.
I even plan to pack everything into my carry-on (after I check the TSA website for size restrictions) to make sure I can fit everything I need into one bag. I'll do that as soon as I have everything...or maybe sooner! LOL!
So, am I just a very organized planner or slightly overly excited and obsessed wannabe world traveler who might be getting a little ahead of herself? My vote? A little bit of both!

If you've read my blog in the last couple of days, you'll know that I got a new Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) on Sunday. Monday, I couldn't seem to push the buttons correctly to make it work. I'm blaming it on lack of caffeine and sunshine. No one should have to think at 4:30 in the morning!! LOL!
This morning was much more successful I pushed the button...twice! And then, to make sure I did it right, I pushed the "back" button once to make sure it paused like it was supposed to. It did! And then I started it back up. All told, about two seconds of pause time.
And in that two seconds, I burned 155 calories!!! I know, I was shocked too! How do I know that I burned so many? Easy! That is the difference between what the machine said I burned and what the HRM showed.
OR...my HRM is defective. 155 calories difference??? I could understand it if the machine under-reported my calories. Everyone knows that they are highly unreliable. Except when they report more calories burned than the HRM! LOL!
Or...I really only burned 331 calories in 45 minutes. I'm going with this option. Not cos it's my favorite, but cos it's the most correct. Dagnabit! The good news is that I am now motivated to shake up my exercise routine so I can boost that calorie burn. And I'll have a more accurate assessment of what I really burned to compare with what I actually ate and can get these last two pounds off!

If you read my blog yesterday, you know that I got a new HRM. And, as you probably already know, I am not a morning exercising kind of person. I don't get up in the morning to exercise unless I know my friend will be at the gym to greet me. Well, I knew for a fact that my friend wouldn't be there (hurt her knee), but I got up anyway. AND I went!
Why? Because I had a new toy, of course! LOL! I reread the directions to make sure I knew what buttons to push and when. I got the chest strap wet and put it on (warm water cools VERY fast!). I strapped on the wrist unit and made sure I had a heart beat. It was a little elevated - 82 - but probably just because I was giddy with excitement.
Got to the gym, set up my book, iPod and set all the settings on the machine. Then I pushed start on my HRM. Forty-five minutes later, I reached down to stop the HRM and ... nothing? What the ??? I got so caught up in trying to figure out what had happened that I didn't even get the numbers off the machine! Dagnabit!
I still needed to stretch, so I restarted it (or started it for the first time!). When I did that, I realized that I was supposed to push the button twice. DOH!!! THAT time it worked exactly as it was supposed to! So I still don't know how my actual calorie burn compares to what the machine has been saying. I plan to have that answer tomorrow.
Wish me luck. Apparently, I'll need it! BTW...did I mention that I am NOT a morning person! LOL!

DH and I decided we needed to run some errands today (without kids, of course!). We left the house shortly after noon and got some lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. We both ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. He had fries, I had a salad, all sauces on the side.
After lunch, headed to a Sports Clips - a man's hair cut place. That means cute girls in short shorts, cutting hair, and sports on TV. Oh..and the air conditioning was cranked! So, I waited in the truck. So much warmer out there! LOL!
After the haircut, we headed to Sports Authority to "look" at heart rate monitors. I wanted to look, see what my options were and then come home and do more research. While we were looking at our choices, one of the employees came by and asked if he could assist. Told him what I wanted and what I wanted it to do. "Polar. You want the Polar." No hesitation, no question, just that it was what I wanted/needed. In fact, that's the brand he uses for triathlons and karate.
Okay then! And, BTW, the one I wanted was on sale. Yep, I walked out with a new HRM!!!! I have it all set up and ready to use tomorrow. Tee hee!!! I'm so excited! I know, silly to be excited about a HRM, but in my world it is a new toy and I can hardly wait to play with it!
Oh...it is a Polar FT4. The most basic model. I wanted calories tracked and heart rate monitored. That's all I wanted and that's all I'm getting so it works out really well!
Now it's time to head to bed so I can play with my new toy early in the morning! Night y'all!

Monday through Friday, I plan my breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks. I even eat them all at about the same time each day. But come the weekend, planning is gone! Out the window! Poof!! And then I make less than stellar food choices.
Here is an example. Today's menu. Get up and head to they gym. String cheese and half an ounce of peanuts beforehand so I am not exercising on an empty stomach (so far, same-same). Home, shower, breakfast. Spaghetti and broccoli (again, similar to week days). And this is where things go awry.
Need to take the boy to his football game. He has to be there an hour before the game. So with that, game time and inevitable delays, I know I'll be there for at least three hours. Take a snack. Do I choose water, an apple and string cheese? Or a fiber one bar? No! I take two fiber one toaster pastries. So they do have fiber, but they are almost 200 calories. EACH! And I take Diet Pepsi and a NOS. After his game I am starving and he gets a free scoop of ice cream. So I get some ice cream (it was yummy, but not my best choice).
Come home, fiber one bar. Take girls shopping for a homecoming dress (yes, we found one! Thank goodness!!). Hungry, dinner time, stop at Taco Time. Chicken Soft Taco and large Mexi-fries (tater tots). AND then, I just got done eating the extra order of tater tots!
All told, I think I ate double my max calorie allotment. One day, no biggie. But all week has either been over my range or right at the tippy top. I need to stop, plan and make better choices.
So, here's tomorrow's meal plan.
Breakfast - bagel sandwich, made at home by DH
Snack - apple and string cheese
Lunch - spaghetti and broccoli
Snack - Fiber One bar
Dinner - Buffalo chicken and sweet potato fries (homemade)
Without actual tracking that should put me right in mid-range. I'll track before I eat though, just in case! And I'll stay in calorie range tomorrow and all through the work week. Even if it kills somebody! LOL!
