It turned out GREAT!

Saturday, February 14, 2009

Today was the day! My daughter got her hair cut and colored. We got there at 8:30, right on time. They took us back a little bit late, but not too bad. We didn't walk out of there until noon! I was so tired and all I did was sit there and read!! Of course, I finished one book and started another, but I was still tired. The good news is she LOVES it! It was to the middle of her back and a darker brown. There were some old blond highlights too. The red is a very dark red, except where the blond highlights were. There it is a lighter red, not quite pink. It looks very cute.

Trying to get a picture to post. We'll see if it comes through...

Daughter's Hair

Friday, February 13, 2009

Getting up very early tomorrow to go to the gym before I take my daughter to get her hair cut and colored. She is 12 and VERY excited. She originally wanted to dye her hair blonde on top and purple underneath. I explained to her that her father would kill us both (not literally, but don't want to deal with it!) if we did that. So, now it'll be red.

I can tell she is excited because she keeps asking questions about tomorrow. Kid: Mom, what color of red will it be?
Me: We'll look at their choices when we get there and pick one that you like.
Kid: Will it be that shade? (pointing at a bright red vase)
Me: No dear. We will pick a color you like.
Kid: Will it be that color? (pointing at a glass apple that's semi-orange)
Me: No dear. We will still pick a color you like. It won't be bright red, I promise.
Kid: Okay.

And the next conversation is all about how the cut will look. Then we go back to color. I'm ready for this to be done so she'll have all of her answers!

My new I-Pod ROCKS!!

Thursday, February 12, 2009

I wasn't planning to add any music to my I-Pod until this weekend. The worry was that if I started, I wouldn't stop playing with it and would end up staying up way too late.

I couldn't help myself. I loaded 10 songs...and it was awesome!! I listened to music during my workout for the first time in months!!! My 45-minute work out felt like half of that. I did decide that some of the songs would be better for a running workout vs. an elliptical workout and I wrote that down. Now all I have to do is figure out how to make different playlists and rearrange the songs already loaded.

Thanks to all who commented on yesterday's blog. I am still pretty excited and love to share!!

I love to take mine when I am walking; it makes it seem easy to increase my time when listening to the music makes the time go by so fast.

I got a new I-POD!!!!!!

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

I had an I-Pod that was used when I got it. It was nice because it was pre-loaded with over 500 songs and I like most all of them. I used it for a couple of years before it died about six months ago. Since then, I have been working out without the benefit of music. Unless you count the stuff they pipe over the speakers at the gym. Since I can't control that, it doesn't count!

I've been saving up for a new I-Pod or MP3-player. I wanted one with a screen and one I could create playlists on. That means I needed to spend more than about $60. The one I really wanted was in the $150 range. As of this morning I had saved up $67. One of the local stores is having a sale...a 4Gb I-Pod Nano for $79 (that's $70 off!!). My hubby threw in the extra $15 and I went and picked one up after work.

It's charging right now and I'll be loading songs and creating play lists this weekend. If I start now, I might not stop and I have to get up for work in the morning. I already have a list of songs that I plan to add. All of them are up-tempo songs with great beats that will make working out easier.

I'm so stoked!!! Yippee!!!!! Scooby Dooby Doo!!!!

Special Olympics

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

The Boise area is hosting the Special Olympics and I'm really happy about that. Even though I won't get to go watch any of the events in person, there is extensive coverage by all of the local channels.

Also, my kids' schools are getting involved. My daughter brought home a pledge that she would stop using the "R" word and be accepting of those with intellectual disabilities. Since I've heard her use the "R" word (and explained why she shouldn't), it's nice to see someone else teaching the same thing. Sometimes, a kid has to hear something from "not Mom" to have it sink in.

My hope is that my kids will see these folks competing and being normal. This exposure goes a long way to acceptance.

Team UNIFY!!
