Change of Plans... road blocks

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Today we made some major changes in our plans. We were supposed to go to an island in the Caribbean on Sat. through Monday. However the government and one of the indigenous tribes here are having issues over strip mining of copper (gov't wants to, copper is on Indian land) and some issues about damming rivers. The gov't is supposed to make an announcement on Monday and in the tribe doesn't like it, they will block the major highways. So we tried to change our reservations, couldn't so we will have to come another time to do that trip. We have already talked about some ideas of fun things to do... will absolutely go the a Pacific beach again.
This visit with my sister has been like a dream come true. I don't remember the last time we spent this much time toget

How unfortunate that you had to change your plans, but at least you're making the best of it.

It's lovely to know that you are enjoying yourself so much and the company you're with.

Spa setting

Monday, February 20, 2012

Until the pool and exercise center at the development they live in is completed, my DS and BIL have joined a local spa. I went with BIL this morning. I got to do my yoga on an outside deck under jungle trees with a babbling brook in the background. Then sent upside down for 10 minutes on a gizmo that locks in your ankles. Then for a 10 minute swim in an endless pool... you know the type that generate a current. Then to a glorious 30 minutes in the sauna and a lovely shower. Came out feeling as if I would collapse without my bones. The gloriously relaxed feeling is staying with me.

Jungle Canopy from a zip line

Sunday, February 19, 2012

I can't really describe the exhilaration of zipping through the trees at up to 60 kilometers an hour (over 35 mph). What a trip. Check out this site for info and some pics of the ride we went on today.... even my sister who doesn't like speed. What a great sport she is.

If that were me on that zip-line, the canopy and what lies underneath would be WELL fertilized - LOL!

You're having so much fun! I've always been a ninny about most physical activities, so have imagined from the ground. In the case of zip-lining, from movies and tv. But it makes me happy to see people going for it.

(I've suspected that zip-lining may be one of the things that some approach with fear, kicking and screaming, and at the end, want to do it again, wondering why the idea ever had been so paralyzing.)

Sounds like you had fun. What an adventure.

It's not the speed that scares me, it's the fact that you're being held on by a rope. It kind of freaks me out.

Glad you had fun.

Bougainvillea

Saturday, February 18, 2012

Today after doing some errands in Boquete with my sister, we all drove slightly up into the hills above the city. After parking we visited Mi Jardin es Su Jardin, several acres of gardens that are open to the public even though they are the grounds of a private home. The colors of the bougainvillea were astounding... blazing reds, royal purples, coral oranges mixed in the lovely calla lilies and day lilies and trumpet shaped red flowers and hydrangea and hibiscus. I think you get the idea. After that we stopped and bought 6 lbs of Panamanian coffee for gifts for friends back home.
Can you tell I am having a marvelous time?

A gift - A perfect day

Friday, February 17, 2012

This morning, we gathered our beach items, donned our swimsuits and my brother in law and sister drove us to their favorite Pacific beach in Panama. It is located at a resort and we paid $10 per to use their private beach, sit on comfortable lawn chairs under palapas (palm thatched round roofs providing shade and use their towels and bathroom. We played in the water, boogie boarding, body surfing, just jumping in the waves and wearing ourselves out. Out to sit in the shade, after a quick outdoor shower, and then on to lunch in the open air restaurant. I had a wonderful grilled fish sandwich. After a little rest, the others went back in the water, I found a private spot with a view of the beach and did my yoga. Joined the others in the water for more play... forgot to mention one morning and one afternoon walk on the beach. The sky was blue, there was a lovely breeze off the water and the temp must have been in the mid 80's. We arrived about 10 AM and left about 5 PM. Retirement rocks!!!
