Seredipity

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Today I was responding to posts and looking at Spark pages when I came across the page of a member who spent an evening with my favorite poet, Mary Oliver. She responded to my post suggesting another poet I might like. I followed her suggestion to his web page where there was a brief trailer from a video made of one of the poet's performances. I immediately recognized his voice from some CD's a dear friend and poetry lover had given me. She had added to those at Christmas time and I have not listened to any of them. I am now adding them to my ITunes so I can put them on my IPod to listen to while walking. You never now what you will find on Spark!

Just for Fun: Pets and a view from the pot

Monday, September 27, 2010

We have 4 animals that live with us. Two dogs (9 years old each) a German short-hair pointer and a Vizula. We also have two small cats - Guzel (means pretty in Turkish) who is 8.5 lbs, and often arches her back like a Halloween cat. We also have Sophia - a Manx cat (they have no tails.) who is our petite miss at about 7.5 lbs. None of these beasts believe in closed doors. Unless the door is latched, a closed door is an invitation to investigate and if possible get some doting attention. They each have their peculiar habits in this regard. Guzel believes anyone sitting on the pot in the middle of the night is there to provide a lap and lots of petting. Lexie and Brigeda (the dogs) believe anyone sitting on the pot anytime during the day wants to scratch their ears. And Sophie... well, they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

My cats also like to "supervise." When guests come over and actually close the door on the powder room, they meow, and paw at the door.

Commentary on Change

Sunday, September 26, 2010

I used to hate change. All I was looking for was a destination, forgetting that the destination is the end and it's the journey that life is about. This time of year is one for noticing change and instead of evaluating it, just noting it.
Today I decided to take my walk at a nearby high school (On a Sunday I figured the outdoor track would be empty. The track was empty, but the field it surrounded was filled with early teen boys playing football. I don't mean some local kids running around. I mean boys in uniforms with pads, helmets, officials, an electronic scoreboard, et. al. At first I was tempted to judge and think to myself, remember when my brother and his buddies just grabbed a ball went to the local park and played. But walking back I noticed something else. The school's soccer fields were full of elementary school girls playing soccer, uniforms, officials, etc. Things change, maybe for better, maybe for worse. We don't know. But it means life is going on.

In some ways - in this hairy-scary world of ours - formal activities for kids are safer. At least they were participating in sports.
Hope your walk was enjoyable!

Light and Weight

Saturday, September 25, 2010

This evening DH and I went to a concert of a folk singer. (Yes, we are that old.) He played a guitar and sang his own songs about being part of a whole world. In one song he had us sing the the chorus. He had written the song about this time of year as the days grown shorter for us in the Northern hemisphere. The chorus was "Where is the light (repeated 3 times) ; it's inside of me." During the intermission I saw a friend I haven't seen in some time and she literally gushed about how good I looked. I thanked her and then thought about it on the way home. Yes, I do look better without 65 extra lbs on my 5'7" frame. But,I think she was seeing something else. I think she was seeing the light in me, the one that had dwindled to barely a spark. It is now a flame because I believe in me, I am a person of value, I have gifts to give and I am here to share them. The light is inside of me!

Get Skype!

Friday, September 24, 2010

This is really not a commercial because the product I am talking about is a free computer application. If your computer has sound and/or sound and a camera, you can talk to anyone in the world for free and see them.
My DH's sister lives in Germany. She recently download Skype and it allowed us to have a face to face conversation and share such wonderful news. Her DIL is a breast cancer survivor and recently was diagnosed with possible tumors in her brain. She had a new procedure done and just got the news that all tumors are gone. She seems to be cancer free. We are elated for her, her husband and their two little girls who are 4 and 6. It was such a joyous way to share the news and hear and see how everyone is doing.
