100 days ago I joined a Spark Team called 100 DAYS TO A NEW YOU. I had gotten to the place where I wanted too many sweets and my weight had crept up from maintenance some 15 lbs. so I decided to take the challenge of 100 days with NO SWEETS.
Someone befriended me and that was encouragement as they said it would get easier as time went on, and they were right!
You see, I love to cook and bake, especially for my three grandchildren who have to have gluten free foods. I never eat their baked goods, but my husband, who has no weight problem, also enjoys goodies, so I bake for him and I give away a lot of the things I make.
Did I stop baking or dipping chocolates for 100 days? NO, I continued but never even licked one finger of sweets. Wasn't always easy, but determination persisted!
I did allow myself nut breads every now and then, but my nut breads contain Splenda and a full cup of either wheat germ or flaxseed, so I considered them healthy.
Did I lose weight? Yes, about 9 lbs.
This week we celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary and our son and wife have their 20th on the same date, so the four of us will go to a nice restaurant for dinner and I am not going to worry about getting the cheapest dinner or the dinner with the lowest calories. We just don't go for big celebrations. I plan to eat a few sweets in moderation, then start another 100 days, which will take me through Thanksgiving and Christmas and I think that will be best for me.
I am very proud of my accomplishments! Are you interested in joining me?

Our Wacky Red Male Cardinal

Sunday, June 22, 2014

He is beautiful!
He is bright red!
He is persistent!
He is wacky!!!
For 3 months this beautiful red cardinal has flown into our windows with all of his strength!
Not once a day! Not twice a day! But countless times a day!
Not one window! Not two windows! But almost every window in the house!
Not one house, but at least two as he goes next door to our son's and repeats his antics!
He wakens me at 6:15 as his beak hits windows numerous times!
This continues until about noon when he must take a siesta, then resumes in PM until about 6 in the evening.
Can you imagine the bird poo on our decks and window sills as he hits so hard he releases that poo.
Tried aluminum foil streamers - no avail!
Tried Insect Spray all around windows - no avail!
Can't ever get windows washed!
Then I hear the beautiful song of the cardinal calling "Pretty! Pretty"! about 8 PM.
Is his wife calling him home?
Can you shed any light on this strange behavior of a bird???

Something is very wrong with him and he needs help. You might want to contact animal control and ask them what could be done.

That is truly wacky!! Is this in NC or still down in FL? You could call the state wildlife folks.

Back in February I wrote a blog stating I had lost all respect for Dr. Oz because he was promoting this weight loss product which we all know is fake.
Well, today on the Noon News I heard that Dr. Oz was going to Washington this afternoon to do something about these companies who fictitiously use someone's name saying they endorse that program.
He never endorsed that weight loss product and wants to get back at the companies who put his name to their products.
I am glad to hear he was not part of that endorsement because I thought he was more intelligent than that.
I apologize to Dr. Oz.

I saw the news about that and how that congress woman went after him for that but what they did not tell you is that she was paid with money from the pharmacy industry and she was looking out for the people that gave her money and just wanted to quiet Dr. Oz and he even says that there are people that are using his name and picture of him that he does not do or even get money from them.

I had seen him earlier tell his audience that a lot of companies were touting his support and they were false. I believe he stated he didn't endorse products. Glad you realized in time. Wish more were like that. emoticon

Finally got in a full hour of water aerobics - and I am very tired tonight. Going to bed early.
Grandson graduates tomorrow evening and service starts at 8 PM. Guess I'd better take a nap or I will never stay awake for it.
Hope I have time for pool again as the water if finally warm and beautiful.
Have an enjoyable Sunday!

Day 5 / NO Sweets

Tuesday, June 03, 2014

Did it! Only 95 more to go!!!
May have been a tad easier today, but find I am eating good solid food and ending at high end of calorie count. So now I will work on NO Sweets along with lighter snacks.

PS Got to talk to sister tonight and was good to hear her voice. She has a long way to go but sounded very upbeat!
