4 Weeks to Weight Loss for Thyroid Patients

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Well as some of you know who read my blogs
www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
urnal_individual.asp?blog_id=3085298
,
I am waiting for a job before I see a thyroid doc, but based on research of symptoms, and based on the armpit temp test which I royally flunked, I'm certain I have hypothyroid condition and possibly low ferritin.

Since supplements containing iodine help me, I believe I do not have Hashimoto's, but seriously need to have everything checked out.

I do not recommend self-diagnosis, for myself or anyone else.

But I am learning as much as I can until I can get a job. I will also have adrenals checked, yes I've been under alot of stress for years, am learning Tai Chi, do deep breathing, want to try Pilates, yoga is not for me at this time, and I am reading all the SparkArticles about stress, and joined the Thyroid SparkTeam.

So I ran across a post that said to subscribe to About.com's free newsletters for Thyroid, and am already learning alot. Although I don't believe in diets, fads, and gimmicks, I do believe there is always something to learn; and I know thyroid patients do have a harder time with weightloss than others do. This thyroid issue is new to me so I'm still learning everything. So when I signed up for the free newsletters thyroid.about.com/ they sent me the "4 Weeks to Weight Loss for Thyroid Patients", and I'm signing up for it, too. I have a weightloss goal for the 9 weeks of May 1st through the 4th of July (actually the 2nd because it's my birthday). It's too soon to know yet if the "4 Wks to Weightloss" is any good, but the reason I signed up is because the rest of the site has impressed me so far. All of this complements SparkPeople, and I would have never found it without SparkPeople.

So the timing is good too, as I wanted a plan for May 1st. And the timing is good as I'm still on the learning curve about thyroid. I know there are different kinds of thyroid disease, so a note of caution: one size does NOT fit all.

For May 1st and forward I plan to track daily in my SparkBlog, key components, I learned how important this was during the Cornerstones Challenge in April. It was eye-opening. I found out I wasn't doing as much as I thought I was doing; and I found out I was doing pieces of the puzzle hit-and-miss, and rarely doing ALL the daily tasks necessary for weightloss and healthy living. In short, I gave myself a Lifestyle Changes Test in April, and flunked.

So for May 1st and forward I'm going to start tracking in my blog:
Daily tracking of adherence to No S Diet (it's not really a diet) (see the SparkTeam for info)
Daily tracking of 3 fruit
Daily tracking of 6 veggie
Daily tracking of 12 water
Daily tracking of mins walking, unless I can get a pedometer that works & if so my goal is to build up to 10K
Daily tracking of ST - I will use SP's Fitness Tracker for this as I'm new to ST
Daily tracking of sleep 8-9 hours

My goal is to make 7 out of 7 goals daily; yes I know I won't make it especially in the beginning, but just tracking 4 in April was eye-opening!!! Oh, how we LIE to ourselves!! I am soooooo glad I did the Cornerstones challenge!!!!!

I will add in the "4 Weeks to Weight Loss for Thyroid Patients" into daily blog tracking, if it turns out to be any good, which remains to be seen. I already know you have to steam cruciferous before eating and they should not be eaten raw (tho I love them raw); I don't know anything else so am curious to learn. If any of you have input, good or bad, about "4 Weeks to Weight Loss for Thyroid Patients", THIS MEANS YOU HAVE TRIED IT ALREADY, PERSONALLY, let me know.

My main crockpot that I use all the time, 6qt Rival, died yesterday. I have a 4qt Corningware and 2.5qt WestBend, both of which I don't care for but will use in the interim. Will be making a stop at Goodwill to see if they have any, during errands this week.

Today is Grocery Prep Day for me; I have to clean out the fridge, eat leftovers tonight, use up old veggies in crockpot soup (or stockpot soup if it doesn't fit in my smaller crockpots now) for dinner tomorrow night, look at online grocery store flier weekly circulars, match coups to sales, etc. Thursday is Produce Run night, and Friday is Grocery Night. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays I don't cook, I eat out of the crockpot, fridge, and freezer from planned-ahead the night before.

I love about .com. I was recruited to work there by a person who has their own column. You will love it.

My maternal grandma and dad both have thyroid problems. I hope you do not have it.

I can't live without my crockpots.

Goo luck with the goals!!

You are so organized that it puts me to shame. I am going to stick close - maybe some of it will rub off.

Hope things go well with the doctor's appointment.

Take care and Be Blessed!

You certainly are organized! I'm one of those people who is not organized and I reap the consequences of never having enough time to do things!

In my neck of the woods, there are free clinics (not to be confused with urgency care clinics). They are run by real doctors who take turns donating time for those who don't have insurance or money to go see a doctor. Any medications they prescribe are paid for as well. Don't they have these kinds of places in your neck of the woods?
It sounds like you really need to see a doctor.

Hugs and prayers~Dusty

I have low thyroid. I have discovered that even though I am maintaining, not to let the Spark computer know that. I put down that I still want to lose about 2 pounds so it keeps me on a somewhat lower calorie range. That way, with the low thyroid, I don't gain weight on their so-called maintenance calories.

US Army Ranger, 1 LT Michael Behenna

Please write Michael in Leavenworth, he is afraid he will be forgotten, conveniently swept under the rug (rotting in prison), and the details of his case not known by the average everyday person. If you read the details of his case via the above link, and then write him about some of it so he knows you know, that would really encourage him.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE APPEAL, see the above link.

There are also other letters you can write, see the above link.

I was looking at a card w/ his pic a couple days ago. I sent money months ago, I have the black wrist band with 1LT Behanna's name on it, this very second. I've never written, though, I was thinking about that. Thank you for the reminder.

I am SO saddened at our government's desperate treatment of these men. 1LT Behanna has so far, lost his life in service. Problem is, he's not dead, he's alive and they're letting him rot.

Another Prayer said. I'll write too, this week.

Setbacks are Only Temporary; Greater Things Lay Ahead

How to Deal with Setbacks
Become a "Bounce Back" Believer
-- By Liz Noelcke, Staff Writer

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivat
ion_articles.asp?id=113

We’ve all hit that bump in the road, the setback, the problem. What sets people apart is how they react to that bump. Are you one to spin out of control, in despair? Or do you grab a hold of that wheel and steer yourself straight? Whether it’s a school assignment, a work project, or a volunteer mission, we all encounter things that slow us down. You just have to keep in mind that a setback is only temporary and greater things lay ahead.

It is easy just to quit, give up and ignore the hard work you have put into something. But at SparkPeople, we believe in the "two steps forward, one step back" philosophy. So what if something bad happens? Keep moving forward, developing what you have. You’ve already built a solid foundation on which you can rely. Hard work can’t be overlooked.

So how can you react when something doesn’t turn out as you’ve expected? First, be objective. Step back and look at the situation. Take responsibility where it is due, but don’t place blame on others. Is your setback really that significant, or will it just require a little extra exertion on your part? Come to terms with it and then start planning your next move. Ask for help. Don’t be afraid or ashamed to do this. Oftentimes, people are more than willing to give you support and advice, maybe even after being in a similar situation. You don’t have to be perfect; after all, nobody else is.

Bounce back. Reevaluate the goals you should have set for yourself at the beginning and retool them as necessary. Goals should be realistic and specific, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be flexible and are allowed for minor impediments. Instead of looking at your project as a disaster or failure, view it with success. Concentrate on how great it will feel after it is finally done, after you have put your all into it. Instead of focusing on a possible unsatisfactory performance one single time, take a moment to sit back and reward yourself for all that you have accomplished.

Above all, don’t live with regrets. Approach life with perseverance and dedication to the things that matter most to you. Success is never easy. It remains up to you whether you will give up, or fight through the tough battles to earn whatever it is you want.

A fragment of a poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson is telling:

"Finish each day
And be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and
Absurdities have crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can."

Move on with your life. Keep reaching for your goals and you will achieve them. One minor setback is nothing if you really want something and are willing to work for it.

Loved the poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson and one to remember when we do have setbacks.

We can not let the setbacks stop our determination for success. They are only bumps in our fitness road not the end of the road.

Great blog today, my friend. Do have a Terrific Thursday.
