I am really enjoying the book, Julie and Julia. I got out my old copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking. I have the same edition that Julie "stole" from her mother. I can look up the recipes she talks about.

In addition, I took out a biography about Julia Child that is fascinating and dovetails with the movie and the book. Now, I would like to view some old videos of her cooking show.

Yes, indeed, the thing about a public blog like this is that you cannot write about anything personal. For a private journal, it is best to do it with paper and pen, anyway. Not computer.

Carol -- hi there -- I've not gotten any of your posts til I saw this one! Sparkpeople DOES have a private journal that won't be seen my other members - just you.
If you go the the very top of your page on the left upper side " My Trackers" Scroll down and under "Planner" is a personal calendar and a journal section....then you could still use your cmputer and not have to write! (I've gotten so I HATE to write out things anymore. I even do grocery lists on my computer most times!

Hi - how are you???

Back to blogging

Saturday, October 06, 2012

The gal in the Julie and Julia movie inspired me to get back to my own blog!!! I got the book from the library, and I am looking forward to reading it. We will see, I am a very picky reader.

I tracked all my foods yesterday, they are all my shared tracker on my spark page. I was not hungry and the calories were under 1800 and I do not understand how I did it!!!

I bought myself a new top to wear and two people told me I looked thinner. So, it really matters what we wear, and we should never wear clothes that make us look bigger!!!

If blogging works, go for it. Personally I do a private paper journal. Some things aren't wise to share, especially involving my family!

Julie and Julia

Friday, October 05, 2012

I seem to have taken a long break from Spark, and didn't even realize how long it had been until I looked at the date on this blog. September 26????

I watched Julie and Julia for the second time last night, and so I am inspired to get back to the blog. That is an absolutely wonderful movie from so many angles. The food photography is fantastic, the weaving in of the two stories is creative, and the acting superb. To see a positive take on marriage in a movie is highly unusual.

The first time I watched it in the theater and loved it because it was about human relationships. Now, I watched it on DVD, and it was great to view the "extras," and see how Nora Ephron made the movie, and hear Meryl Streep and Amy Adams talk about it. The fact that all of it was true makes it even more interesting.

Restaurant Blues!!!

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Here I am again. I did really well yesterday until going to a restaurant for dinner. Why is it so hard to make good choices at that time??

It is very foggy here, wet and horrible, and so walking is not appealing.

Eating out is difficult, especially when there are so many choices and not a lot of information about calories in the foods /meals. I always do better when I can look up the restaurant on line and see what my choices may be and sometimes they will let you know calorie count.

When I go out I sometimes ask for the take home box at beginning of the meal and put half the portion away for later so I am not tempted to "clean my plate" like my mother and father always required us to do.

Rainy here too.. I have some errands to run.. may stop at the gym to walk on treadmill for a while and read emoticon emoticon emoticon .

My Fitness Plan

Saturday, September 22, 2012

How odd I missed the blog yesterday. And almost today, too. I am doing the foods on Spark and then just entering the calories on My Fitness Plan. I hope this works for me.

Pros: I was very hungry by 11 am and ate a hard boiled egg, and then was not even hungry for lunch.

A piece of my tooth came off, so I couldn't really eat, and so I had a smoothie. Yogurt, fruit, nonfat milk, pretty good. Still the good old cal.s add up!!!

Yes it does not take much for the calories to add up to your daily amount.
