How do we keep from feeling starved?

Thursday, September 20, 2012

This is my conundrum!!! I know Spark has ideas. I will look a few up after I finish this blog.

I have slacked off on my strength exercises, and I want to get back to them. It is so hard to establish a habit like that, isn't it? I have no excuse. I am retired, I have plenty of time!!!

I give myself credit for consistency. It is nice that spark has those little awards.

Edit: 7:30 am -- Just did coach nicole 7 minute exercise band routine. FELT SO GOOD. Now how do I do this consistently, as a habit???

Also weighed my breakfast potatoes and 3 ounces is under 100 calories. It must be the butter and/or oil they are prepared in that makes them killers.

I would have to agree with 2BDynamic and the importance of adding protein into your meals and snacks to ward off the hunger.

I have been at home for 4 weeks now recuperating from surgery and I have not been able to do my usual exercise routine , I am limited to walking only ... not my first choice of exercise but one I used to do often. If I don't do the walk first thing in the day, I find myself getting distracted with other things ( reading, eating or napping) and never get the walk in .. Note to myself .. do the walk first thing when you wake up ....

Good for you for doing the Coach Nichole exercise band video.. when I finally get clearance to go back to ST , I think I will need to use her videos to get myself back into the habit of doing it.. I know it really matters.

Good luck on getting motivated . Perhaps you should see if you could challenge yourself to ST 3 x a week and see if you can get a "streak" for at least 3 weeks in a row.

We all struggle with what you are talking about. They say do something for 28 days and it becomes a habit. I don't think that is true for diet and exercise. You can't beat yourself up about it. Just try to do as you are doing--be consistent as possible. Best to your efforts.

They TELL me drinking a glass of water works. I'm working on the same problem, though.

Eat an apple with a bit of cheese or glass of milk about half an hour before strength training. It fills you up and gives you energy for the exercise and protein to make your hormones work so you can build muscle. or have an egg sandwich on wholemeal bread. B vitamins in the bread give you energy and have lots of fibre to keep you going and fill you up. Don't go for the biscuits! LOL!

I am reading The Spark and Chris says to be mindful to add protein to each meal. I know for fact this works .... I still work FT and am very active ...... yet, if I eat only carbs for b'fast (Like oatmeal, berries) I can count on being hungry before the hour is up. Protein helps as it takes much longer to digest and keeps ya feeling full and satifsied. Any veggies you add are filling since they are fiber and water' foods ..... provide satiety. I know it is not mind over matter .......... it is balancing the diet to keep the blood sugars at bay as well as all else. It is a juggling act, but once yu get the habit and a good meal plan ........... it becomes easy and doable. emoticon

For me 95% of feeling "starved" is mental not physical. I eat enough at my 3 meals a day to stave off being hungry until before the next meal. Sometimes I mess up and have to put milk in a cup of coffee to get to lunch or dinner, but that's about it. Consistency pays off in new habits, and a hunger cycle is easy to train. It works for pets, it works for people.

Just a thought, if have time actually schedule exercise in to your day same time on exercise days will help making it a habit, GL

My Fitness Pal

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

I really like the clean, clean interface of My Fitness Pal. Nothing to distract you. However, I also like Spark. So, here is how I can do both. I am going to Spark first thing in the morning, doing the trivia and the blog, and the trackers. With Fitness Pal I will either just enter the calories, or if it was a simple meal, enter the foods. My Fitness Pal makes it easier to enter foods that you eat all the time.

I love Coach Nicole and her exercises. I think I can use both websites. I am not going to weigh myself until I see some progress with my clothing. Then we will see if this new plan works.

I like the food tracker on MFP better -- easier, and I love the scanner feature on my iphone.

I like the exercise tracker better on SP

There are pros and cons to each -- you can only create 6 customized meals on MFP, where here you can customize as many meals as you wish.

But I like the community here better == it feels "safer" and with much less drama.

I like the teams better on SP -- really the only thing I like better on MFP is the food tracker...

I could not get it to work with my browser! Good luck!
Personally, I find the spark trackers very easy to use. I have built up my own base of foods that I use with the calories in it on spark. emoticon
have you joined the fall challenge?

I agree, I love Coach Nicole and the exercises made available on Spark. emoticon

Your plan to avoid the scale for a while is very good .. there are so many other ways to define "progress" and the scales is just one of them..I have a friend who evaluates her progress by how her clothes are fitting ..she was excited about getting into some of her old "slimmer" clothes she used to wear... emoticon

Glad you have a worded out a system that works for you in using both Spark and Fitness Buddy. emoticon emoticon Peggy

Yay, Tues-Day

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Okay, I am laughing at myself, and that is Good.

Here I am: upstairs (computer is downstairs)....I go downstairs to enter my foods in my Spark tracker....I get on the computer.....I go to about ten different email....go back upstairs.....realize I have not entered the foods on Spark!!!

Spark is my priority!!! Yet, how does this happen? I purposely go downstairs with the intention to enter the calories on Spark, and totally forget about it within five seconds.

I love Monday!!!

Monday, September 17, 2012

Of course, when I worked, Mondays were not any fun at all. Now, it is wonderful to be able to feel fresh and starting all over again. I am going to start a jewelry making class, and I plan to walk to it!!! It will take about 45 minutes. I may take the bus back.

Also, for today I plan to measure all food items, and eat simply. When you eat those dishes with everything mixed up, it is so hard to really know how many calories you have had.

Both Spark and Fitness Pal

Sunday, September 16, 2012

So far, it has been pretty easy to do both Spark and My Fitness Pal. I can be more specific with Spark, and then just enter a shortened version on the other website, and get the immediate feedback. The interface is much cleaner and I think just doing something new is motivating. I am not going to weigh myself until I think I have finally lost a few lbs. We will see.
