My Fitness Pal

Friday, September 14, 2012

I don't think My Fitness Pal is as accurate as Spark, but I have been only doing it, along with Spark, for a week. I am desperate for some motivation, and I find it motivating. Spark has such a huge range of entries, way more than My Fitness Pal. I appreciate that they have all the Costco and Trader Joe items. But My Fitness Pal may be easier to use on a vacation. (although who counts calories on a vacation???) Still, gaining 3 lbs on the cruise after having a stable weight for 3 years really bothers me. I cannot get it to come off.

Morning again....

Thursday, September 13, 2012

Morning comes again. Wonderful morning. A time to start over. I am going to continue with Spark, but also do My Fitness Pal. The interface is cleaner and it motivates me. I am not going to do the 5% challenge because I did three and did not lose any weight. Not their fault, of course. Very hard to find a system for oneself that works!!!

Spark has so many distractions on it, it is easy to get lost playing games and taking quizzes instead of just getting out there and walking!!!

I have used my fitness pal and also the lose it app as well. I found the one I stuck with most was spark for me. Everyone is different though. As far as calorie ranges, spark seems higher because they recommend losing only 1-2lbs a week and slowly cutting back calories, instead of doing a huge drop in your calorie range from the beginning. It is also based on what you said you do for exercise. Either way you go, just make sure you are logging accurately and measuring out your portions, you will see a difference!

Do you think My Fitness Pal is any more accurate that SparkPeople in terms of tracking, or about the same? I'm getting worried the calorie recommendations and fitness tracker here might not be the most accurate.

Blogging really does help me. I did a journal my entire life off and on, so it is rather easy for me. Of course, I think it is more therapeutic to write by hand. I read Julia Cameron's book, The Artist Way, and she has very good reasons as to why a person should journal that way.

But then this is just a quick blog, not a soul searching piece of writing.

Goal for today: continue to record calories. Try to limit breakfast and lunch so that can have a regular dinner. Problem with this: am starving by 4pm.

Spark Analysis

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

I am analyzing which parts of Spark help me and which are just me wasting time.

1. Entering the foods I eat and measuring.

2. Entering the exercise time and looking to see if I am meeting my goal of 1000 minutes a month.

3. The trivia game takes very little time and puts a dot of awareness into my head.

It can gobble up the time. You have to ask what time is spent for the most profit? Stay with it.

I keep track of my food on paper and just copy meals from day to day for the points. I'm addicted to those points!

Good for you.. what a great idea to think about and evaluate what Spark features work for you ! Makes me realize I should do this too!!

I should get back to planning and journaling my foods - that has always been the biggest help to me on SP.. the main tool that helped me loose weight

I have always been good at plotting my exercise.. that's the easy one for me and inspires me to DO the exercise and also reminds me of what I have done.. it is my most consistent "streak"..I find keeping the "Streak "going as a motivator..

I used to do the trivia games and found them interesting- now I mainly read articles and blogs that interest me.

I have recently relooked at some of the "challenges" and have gone back to the "tame the sweet tooth challenge" and am workingon ("struggling with") this !!

Another way to enter calories

Monday, September 10, 2012

I found another app, this one called My Fitness Pal. I am going to try to do both Spark and this one. It had advantages over spark, but many disadvantages. Maybe if I have to enter my calories twice, I will really get it in my head not to have so many!!!
