Not a bad idea. I read old notes and wonder why I wrote them. It can also be a good diary for you.

Trivia Quiz

Thursday, July 12, 2012

I am at 71% on the trivia quiz. That is because I do it too quickly. If I stop and actually think about the question, I do better. And then if I google the questions I am not sure about, I will get 100%. And in the process of researching I learn something about the topic, so really I should stop and take the time to think, and then if the topic is totally unknown get out my iPad and find the answer.

I think you can learn if you get the wrong answer and read the explanation. Don't stress the score emoticon

Spark's Meal Plans

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

I am continuing with checking out Spark's meal plans.

First, these plans get you out of your rut. I am trying some new foods, well, not new to me, but good ones I had forgotten about, like hummus.

Secondly, you can print out the meal plan to help you follow it.

Thirdly, and most importantly ----- something new is what stimulates a person. Cannot continue with same old, same old.

Change is always good. I've noticed that I will eat a certain enthusiastically for a period of time, then suddenly realize that I never eat it any longer. Strange how most people go from one food to another. There are some great choices on here though!

Hummus tastes like smooshed chick peas, which is what it is. I like the kind with red peppers because it has a bit of heat.

Meal Plan Experiment

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

I chose a "regular" meal plan for the tracker, and I do like seeing what Spark recommends and what I can use to substitute. However, I think it is less precise than what I have been doing. They do not seem to use grams and ounces the way I do. I was curious to see what the other meal plans were. I recall there were about 6 options, you could choose regular, vegetarian, gluten free, etc. But now I cannot figure out how to get to the place where those choices were available!!!

If anyone knows, let me know.

It is not that important, but it is funny how easy it is to forget how to find something here on Spark. By the way, I do like the new fitness tracker. It is easier for me to use.

Record for Tuesday

Breakfast: 456 calories (all healthy, but whoops!!!)

Lunch: 502 calories (junk food, but needed it, just had half of hot dog, half of chips, half of coke---went Halfsies.)

I could not get to your spark page to send you a thank you goodie. I wonder why. Usually I can click on "my spark page" and go to the person's page. At any rate, thank you, I thought I had checked the "change nutrition goals" section, but I missed the "meal plan settings." So, thanks, I think it is fun to play with.

I don't much like the nutrition tracker: it is more time consuming than just sitting down with the cookbooks and planning out the week. I, too, prefer recipes to be specific with ounces in each ingredient.

I am not sure I like the new fitness tracker. I liked seeing the week at glance with the total calories burned. Is there a way to see that info with the new tracker? All I saw was the week at a glance of what I did, not calories burned, minutes added up, etc. Since I sorta have a goal of minutes per week in mind, and calories per week in mind, I like seeing that.

Hi CAROLEE1945! This is my very first comment/ post on SP! Thanks for the opportunity. I loose track of things on here all the time. There's just so much good stuff! I did find what you're looking for though. I just switched on the meal planner option myself to see if I might like it. The most enticing part for me right now is the premade printable grocery list!

So, at the bottom of the Nutrition tracker page there is a "Change Nutrition Goals" button. At the bottom of the Goals page the is a Meal Plan Settings section with some (teensy little;) boxes to check off what you want or don't want as part of your plan. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Day 2 of Experiment

Monday, July 09, 2012

Looked at Spark Menu for today. Did the "substitution" thing. That works well. See, you don't need to eat what they tell you, but their menu gives you a guideline. For example, today it said something like "1 apple" for breakfast, which I did not have, and I could substitute melon. It said "yogurt, 1/2 cup", and they give you various equivalent foods, so I used cottage cheese.

Note to self: Please return to spark blog and record how close I come to this plan!

Breakfast: 400 calories-----344!!!

Lunch: 400 calories ------- 442, using Spark menu plan- not very exact though

Snack: 200 calories----150 graham crackers and low fat cream cheese

Dinner: 800 calories
