I am trying to figure out how to use this feature. Does anyone else use it and how does it actually work?

    I like the water and veggie streaks. keeps me going. If the last comment didn't help, sparkmail me and I'll help If it's a common goal (like water or exercise), it's easier.

    you can see what your streaks are on either of these pages
when you set a goal, it'll pop up on your streak page. some are tracked automatically (log in points, water), others you have to track in "other goals."

Sparkling Idea for July

Make a regular sandwich, not thinking Spark-wise or anything, then, the sparklers go off in your brain, and you cut it in half and only eat half.

Rather than making only half a tiny sandwich to begin with, which seems sad all by itself. Looks ridiculous on a plate.

It is a different feeling, hard to explain. Making the whole sandwich, cutting it in half carefully, wrapping up the half is a different experience than getting out one piece of bread and half an ounce of cheese and one ounce of lunch meat or whatever.

Will report back on this idea.

    Sometimes, a warm cup of soup , a half sandwich, a small side salad and company will fill us up emotionally as well as a whole sandwich - eaten too fast.

Consider trying smaller salad plates.

Dr. Oz suggested for us to try a tsp. of sauerkraut (which is fermented) also on our meat sandwiches. suppose to help digestion!

    Could never eat half a sandwich. My wife says I eat a whole sandwich in two bites. Course that's a bit of an exaggeration.

    Yesterday I made a sandwich with stuff I did not like, I could not eat it, and ended up eating cookies and milk!!! Today I put salami in the sandwich (a big no, no, right?) toasted it in one teaspoon of butter on the stove, and then cut it in half. That half totally was satisfying.

    I was just reading something about this. I'll summarize it and give a url in my blog tomorrow. Anyway, it seems that our brains behave in a very odd way. We feel satisfied or full... ot not... depending on our perception of what we eat. Not the reality, or number of calories, but how emotionally satisfying the food is. I think what they are saying is what you describe, if I read you right? If so, we really are on the same page. I'm finding I do better with "the real thing" - whole milk, full-fat sour cream and mayo (my lunch today), and despite the quantities being limited, I feel a lot more satisfied, fuller. Amazing... you too!

Babysitting Blues

Spent two days babysitting grandchildren: a 6 month old girl and a two year old boy. Could only eat in snatches, so felt very unsatisfied and went hog wild when I got home.

The babies are darling, darling, but the babysitting stint was over the top for me. I am now full of aches and pains and wiped out. The little boy got into some white out and made a mess, and hid my iPad so I could not find it when it was time to go home!!!

Why isn't that kid in nursery school???

Seriously, it was fun to be toilet training him, and getting so excited over pee pee!!!

Who would have thought?

    Once we are grandparents we realize that kids are for the young. I think kids get all their energy by draining it out of us. It's glorious in limited doses but I just can't imagine it full time.

1500 calories or bust!!

I tracked all my foods yesterday! I actually weighed a glass of wine. Very proud of that. The weighing make a BIG difference. It keeps me honest. But I did not weigh the pizza, so I just had to estimate it, and I probably was off.

Unfortunately, I could not fall asleep, so was reading The Picture of Dorian Gray for about 2 hours. Usually the wordiness of it puts me to sleep, but I got to a fascinating part of the book. Then it was 2 am and I was very hungry, and I know I could not go to sleep without eating so I had a glass of whole milk and cookies, which I have not tracked, but I know put me over 2000 calories.

If only I had gone to sleep, I would have been okay for yesterday.

Now it is 6 am and I do not know why I woke up so early. Well today is another day to try for 1500 calories.

Back on Track

Of course, I just ignored my eating plan while I was away. My daughter had bought chocolate especially for me because she knows how much I like it after dinner. Train travel is really fun!!! (as long as it is short!!)
