I had a healthy breakfast: yogurt, muesli, and maple syrup - 423 calories. Seems like too many c.'s for what I ate. Yet it had 7 grams of fiber, pretty good and it is only 9 am!!!
If I had had cheerios (much less fiber than the muesli) the calories would be less.
It is almost impossible to get those 25 grams of fiber in one day with less than 2000 calories. Let's try a food experiment and see if it can be done!!!
Editing this at 3:30 pm, have had 19 grams of fiber. About 900 calories, though. I have to admit, it is the mayo in the tuna salad that added all those calories!!!

The Spark Way, so to speak, is an ongoing process. What I mean by "the spark way" is the process of becoming aware of what we eat, the calories, the fiber, the calcium, the salt...... And being conscious of the importance of movement. It is not a 6 week plan. It is a process--an ongoing process where you are always learning new things.
For example, I never realized my absolute favorite yogurt was 170 calories and you only get a little bit, really, it is a doll-sized carton, practically!!! Then, I knew those Haagan-Dazs ice cream bars were terrifically caloric, so I deprived myself. Then the other day, I noticed they looked smaller. Sure enough, that is what the company did (probably charge the same price!!!) but smaller is good, because the calories are much less, and really, I never wanted to eat the whole huge bar anyway. The last bites are NEVER as good as the first bite!!!
I really hate all artificial sweeteners so I cannot use the low calorie yogurt. Also, I really like high fat middle eastern yogurt, ha ha, so I just have half a cup instead of a whole cup. I think if you eat what you really love and do not eat mindlessly, you will be okay. Taste is strange. The pina colada is the only Yoplait that I really like!!! Who knows why.....
The Spark Way is an awareness process. For example, do I really "love" potato chips? Or is it the salt that makes me crave more and more? Being aware of this keeps me from even buying that first little bag.

If yoplait pina colada yogurt is 170 calories, and Haagan-Dazs chocolate covered toffee ice cream bar is 190 calories, which should you choose???
Sounds like a math problem. You have to factor in the pleasure principle Now I really love pina colada yogurt, the one from yoplait. But do I love it as much as the Haagan-Dazs bar, which makes me feel like I have had a tremendous treat? And only 20 calories more?
Of course, the solution is neither.

Dinner seems to be the time that it is very hard to hold on to the calorie counting horse. For starters, usually, I am with another person. I always eat more in a social situation. Secondly, if that other person cooks, they often use much more salt and fat than I would. Thirdly, if I eat in a restaurant, all bets are off.
So, n0w that we know that dinner is the disaster time, what do we do?
I am not going to become a hermit in order to eat properly. The only idea I can come up with is portion control. (but then that can insult the other person). Well, tough bananas for them if they are insulted. And then, of course, I love to cook, so I can have them to dinner. (And watch them re-salt everything -- (which actually really irritates me!!)

I had a sore throat on Friday, but on the weekend, I actually felt okay, just a little bit under the weather and I blithely thought it was just a mini-virus or something. I even went for a 2 mile walk in the cold weather on Monday. But now I feel really sick. And I have so much to do. I was planning to stay overnight with my daughter and her new baby. But I cannot do that if I am ill. For one thing, they could get it. But also, I am up all night, congested, it is horrible.
