Lost One Pound (real)

Monday, January 16, 2012

I think I actually finally lost one real pound. We will see. I think everyone knows what I mean by a real pound. I know SP says only weigh once a week, but other websites say to do it everyday. Weight fluctuates by 3 pounds and so it is really silly to feel great to be down one pound or sad up one pound. If you see your weight always within a range and then the range changes for awhile, well, they you have really lost (or gained, boo hoo)

Congratulations!! I think you can tell it's real by how you feel as well. I play along, but I don't take too much stock in a pound either way on the scale either.

Yes...those tricky pounds never are honest day to day. But if they stay gone consistently, you win because you lose!

I use a moving average weight to take out the fluctuations - it keeps me calmer about what's happening on the scale! So when the average is going up or down, I know that it's 'real'.

Blog did not go through

Sunday, January 15, 2012

Posted a blog entry, just now, but it did not go on. Maybe too many people are using spark.

Just wanted to report a success. Had lunch at a restaurant and ordered crab louie, really good, felt I ate well, yet did not overdo it.

Wanted to tell more details, but blog did not go through.

Sometimes I notice that SP is slow. Must be all the traffic on it, or maybe my 8 year old computer.

Anyway, any time you go to a restaurant and stay within your limits, it's a huge success. Congrats!

2000 Calories

Saturday, January 14, 2012

For the first time in two weeks, I logged all my foods, breakfast, lunch, dinner, middle of the night snack, and 4pm snack. It all came to 2000 calories. When I did the feedback, I had actually attained all my nutrient levels for the very first time. I wonder how on earth a person can get their proper nutrition with less than 2000 calories?

It can be a chore, but when we work it all out, we win on soooo many levels! Way to go!

My range is 1220-1550 and I find I get all the nutrient requirements except for iron. So I take an iron supplement since I have had problems with low iron in the past.

Congrats on tracking your food this week. Try for 2 weeks. emoticon

Yews, I'm with you on the 2000 calories - but then, for my weight and a reasonably slow weight loss, I'm supposed to be about 1850 - 2150, or something. That will reduce as my weight goes down - which is why we're advised to "return to our basics" and re-set some of the info for up-to-date requirements.
If 2000 is allowing weight-loss as you wish it too happen, then it's not too high- for you. We are all of us different and have different requirements at our various different stages.

My range is 1220-1550 and i find I get all the nutrient requirements. My problem is that I am always high on Carbohydrates and low on fat. There is no room for junk food there.

CHARLOTTE1947 1/14/2012 12:13PM

I almost never meet all my nutrition goals, and I have difficulty going over on fats and not enough on carbs. It evens out over the long haul, so don't worry. As long as you keep within your calorie range and try to get those nutrients, you're moving in the right direction.

With every meal, I post my nutrition and look to see how to adjust the next meal to bring numbers up or down in a given category. So, if I need more fiber and carbs after breakfast, for example, I have a serving of some kind of beans for lunch. If I'm too high in fats, I have a salad with light mayonnaise as dressing. You get the picture.

No one is perfect. Don't sweat it. I'll bet Spark Guy misses the mark too!

I eat about 1200 cals each day to maintain my weight. Any more and I'll gain. I can get perfect nutrition, but there isn't any room for junk of any kind, and I don't mind. It's worth it to stay thin.

Haha, well I'm not sure what SP has defined your range at but mine is 1200 - 1550 and if I go out of the range, I usually blow one of my others (usually fat) too. But I've realized that I have to really think about my food rather just guess or I'll never be in my ranges all at the same time. emoticon

Habits of mind

Friday, January 13, 2012

Very important to keep this blog habit up. I always loved writing, and used to do a a diary as a kid, then a journal in my 20's, and used to write letters (remember those?), and I loved reading. Reading and writing go together, don't they?

However, I find many novels written past 1960 have some horrible graphic violent scene in them. I simply cannot handle things like that. The images stay with me for days and days. I accidentally read a book that was so good, and then this horrible thing happened to a woman that I won't even repeat here. I stopped reading novels and switched to nonfiction.

I find novels written pre-1960 are usually okay. There is so much violence in the daily paper, I simply do not need it in my entertainment, either in books or in movies. I shudder when I think of young men playing those internet games that show so much violence against women. Why do companies spend so much money on advertising? Because it really works. Well, those games are like advertisements on how to treat women. It is very scary now that I have a little granddaughter. What kind of habits do those movies, games, books create in people? I wonder, I really do. We all know how bad junk food habits can be. What about habits of mind? Habits of thinking?

Ten Minutes

Thursday, January 12, 2012

I appreciate other's reading my blog even when I have not much to say. Spark is definitely right in saying how important the community aspect is. When your life is disrupted, it is crucially important to keep to your habits even if you just reduce them to ten minutes, whether it is walking, weighing your foods, sparking. Anyone can fit in ten minutes!!
