Day After

Friday, November 25, 2011

Got a good start; walked 2 miles; just did more strength exercises than have done all month; now I need to set my challenge goals.

Thanks for giving

Thursday, November 24, 2011

It is 6 am; I woke up at 5 am. I think I should take a day off of tracking, but I am still going to read all my spark mail.

I must say I truly appreciate and give thanks to all the people here on spark who have been so giving with their words. It sure helps, and not just with weight.

So, to everyone, thanks for giving!!!

I'm with you all the way -- it makes me feel like this is a whole world of "online friends." And they all have a common goal with me -- get healthy, lose some weight.

Family Matters

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

I made a vow to record my spark dinner every evening and then see if I needed calcium and either drink a glass of milk (nonfat, of course) or take a calcium pill. (got chewy ones, accidentally the child size, so have to chew four of them and they do not taste as good as the gummy vites) I have been recording the next morning, and it would be better to record before I go to bed.

Yesterday I was so upset that I did not do it. My daughter who suffers from a mood disorder and depression just suddenly announced she was not coming to thanksgiving because "no one cares about me" She is 38. I could not sleep all night about this. It has happened before, but to see your child in pain is absolutely one of the most terrible things a parent can experience.

It is true that seeing one of your children in pain is more painful to you than probably to your child. But at age 38, or any age after they are adults, you are better off not trying to interfere -- they must live their own lives and make their own mistakes. Sadly it is one more thing that a parent cannot do for their child.

While those sound like adult, knowledgeable words of advice, it has taken me many, many years to adhere to it myself.

I have a 30 year old son who can't hold down a job. We support him. I spoke to him today and he's depressed. He'd had panic attacks all night and hadn't slept. Sometimes I wonder if God hears my prayers.

You are not alone. I'm so sorry.

VINGRAM has it so right - and, with a depressed soul, one should not attempt "controlling" (don't ask me how I know this).....

Holidays are incredibly rough for those dealing with mood disorders (again, don't ask me how I know)......

My best thoughts and wishes to you and your daughter.....

You cannot control a 38 year old. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. I know from past experience with an addicted son how painful it can be.

Sending hugs and warm thoughts your emoticon

Beware of fat free milk, it has more sugar then 1% or 2%. I down

Calorie Cheat

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

When a person is truly trying to restrict calories, every little bit counts. I find myself unconsciously cheating. For example, I put real whipping cream in my coffee, (because it was left over and I did not want to waste it. ha ha) It was straight, not whipped, but I used the calories for whipped, which is very different!!! I need a whipping!!!

Yes! Let's whip Carol instead of the cream! lol

Isn't it frustrating that you can lie to most people, but to yourself it never quite makes it. It's kind of like not writing down a taste while you are cooking the meal, or eating that tiny bit that was just in the bowl. After all, if it wasn't "yours" it shouldn't count! Should it? emoticon

Zeedra gave me an iron skillet yesterday - for those who are keeping me from my goals - I told her I should use it on myself! Maybe you could use one, too???

Tonight I tried whole wheat pasta and it was just fine. I mixed it with frozen peas and cheddar cheese, sprinkled some sliced almonds on top, and it was actually quite good.

I traded in my white rice and pasta a long time ago. I can't really tell the difference - but they say the brown is healthier. Good for you! vista emoticon
