I can't help raving about the iPhone and how it has enriched my life!!! I discovered this "app"
called "Fooducate". You can put your iPhone in front of a bar code on a food item, and it reads it and then tells you about the item!!! I gives it a grade, like B, or B- and then offers suggestions of other things that might be better!!! It is amazing. To top it off, they have a website, and now I get really interesting emails from them about various programs going on around the country relating to eating more wisely.
For example, I did not know the food manufacturers are fighting a new proposed law. You know how the label says, "100 calories a serving" and then the candy bar is actually 3 servings, but you don't read that part, of course!!! So, they want to change the labels so the calories will be more clear to the consumer.

Well, I am on Day 4 of using the Spark Meal Plan.
Well, I was saying, gee, I was so full and got so much to eat!!!
Well, on further, detailed reading, I saw various errors I was making. For example today it says 2 pieces whole wheat toast -91 calories - and I thought it meant you got to eat two pieces,at 91 calories each. No, no, no, Carol, it was whole wheat toast, reduced calorie, at 45 calories each, with a total of 91. (The math of this is driving me crazy.)
Then I saw almond butter (for the toast) so I conveniently thought it was 1 T, but no, it was 0.5 T. Well 0.5 T only covers about one fourth of the toast!!! How could they even have suggested that???
Still, I ate much more healthily, than if I had had a regular English muffin with butter and jam. Put under the broiler so that the top of the muffin is crisp and the butter is dripping off.(which is one of my favorite breakfasts)

Well, this was my calorie count for yesterday. But on the positive side, at least I KNOW.
Am going to plan my meals again, today. Spark's meal plans are heavy on fruits and vegetables, which is good. If I can do just breakfast and lunch with Spark, and then modify a regular dinner, I think I can get under 2000 calories. Eating out really is a challenge. Last night, I absolutely did not have to eat all the bread and butter. I did not. But i was so hungry by the time we were served, and even though I just kept breaking off little pieces of it, still, it amounted to a lot.

Of course, I did not do the dinner meal plan last night because I ate dinner with my fiance. (fiancee?) His eating style is so different from mine, meat and potatoes, less vegetables, no wonder he has high blood pressure. I never was a meat and potato person, so luck is on my side there, but I am a big cheese person, and cheese is probably just as rich as meat.
Still, I am pleased with my food tracker for yesterday. So, I just printed out the meal plan for today, and I plan to follow the plan!!! But, of course, I substituted items. Spark gives you ideas of what to substitute, sort of like weight watchers. Also, you can use your own judgment.
I have also walked three days in a row. I am still somewhat ill, though, my voice just will not come back to normal, so I am sucking on these lemon drops, sugarless cough drops, and drinking all that tea with lemon. I am laughing at myself because I am even tracking each lemon drop that goes into my mouth.
I am gradually starting my strength training and balance program. Yesterday I did three "airplanes" (from Spark) Very hard, but good for the balance to prevent future falls.
How is everyone else doing?

I used Sparks meal plan for breakfast and lunch, and really it was too much food!!!! For dinner I will have a regular dinner, but maybe I will do the substitute thing with it. I feel very good about all this.
