3pm and only 300 calories left

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

I was trying so, so hard today. Now it is 3pm and there are only 300 calories left. What can I do?

There is no way I can go to bed hungry.

Gortons grilled Fish filet 100 calories each, a huge batch of spinach sauteed til just wilted with lemon juice and a little bit of feta cheese sprinkled on top 70 calories, vitatop muffin for evening snack 100 calories=270 calories.

If you walked for an hour you could easily add another 100 available calories to your day.

I'm not good at this, you may have to go over your calories today. BUT what I can suggest is that you start planning ahead. I start my morning out with going to my food tracker and planning what I'm going to eat for the entire day, based on what I know I have or whats avalible to me. This way, you have a plan for the day..you will be within your calorie range and less apt to grab something that may be too high in calories. Best of luck to you!! :)

Spark Meal Plan

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

It has never worked for me to use other people's meal plans, but I am going to give Spark's a try. I also am going to record every single thing that goes into my mouth. Since I had that terrible laryngitis, I got sick and tired of sugar free cough drops and switched to lemon drops. I see they are 9 calories each, and it is easy to suck on 10 or more of them. Bad for the teeth, but I was pretty desperate.

Hope that you are feeling better.
If you can access Canada food guide, it is a good plan I try to follow the reccomendation for women 51 + and you can easily eat any thing as long as you watch the portions

Detour

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

I decided to actually try the Spark meal plan today. There were so many things to buy, whole wheat flour, applesauce, apple juice concentrate, raisins, my goodness. One store did not have all of it, and as I was driving to the other store, I realized, this is stupid. I need to get out and get back to walking. I can do this meal plan tomorrow. But today, I will focus totally on the 300 calorie breakfast and lunch, the protein and fiber choices, so I had one egg, one whole wheat english muffin, one cup of blueberries. Very satisfying and now I will go walk.

Discovery: you can print out the meal plan along with a record of how you have done with fiber, calcium, calories the past week. Thinking of blowing this up on a zerox and posting on the fridge. Truth or consequences!!!

Carolee, I have been using these features for a while. I do not use Spark's meal plan as I tend to like other things. I do make sure that the foods I eat are in calorie and nutrient range. That's what keeps me honest.

Need a breakthrough

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

Well, I am fed up with myself. I can't seem to go under 2000 calories a day. I am going to attempt to plan the calories ahead of time. I say "attempt" because this has never worked for me. For some contrary reason, whenever I plan, I go to sit down and I don't like whatever it is. Even if it is something I normally would like, such as an egg. And I never eat things I don't actually like.

Today is Tuesday. My fresh start of Monday did not work. So, let's say Tuesday is another fresh start.

What is the saying, If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!!

I was told to take what I loved and convert into something I could have. Took a lot of creativity back then because there were so many things that were forbidden on WW. Like we had to use breadcrumbs instead of flour to make sauces, and no pasta, just spaghetti squash with sauce boiled down from tomato juice. There is a much larger universe of meal components now. You can plan Osso Bucco with risotto, or lamb shank stew, or meat loaf, or spaghetti and meatballs, or chicken and dumplings, or smothered pork chops, or.....I could go on and on. For me it's the planning and prep of a spectacular dinner that makes me stick to it. That's how I eat and I manage to stay under 1500 cals a day, usually closer to 1200. Who knew? And believe me, I am the laziest person in the world. If I can do it, anyone can.

Another Spark Discovery

Monday, October 17, 2011

Here I have been doing Spark for a few years, but did not realize a person can check throughout the day as to how much fiber, vitamin D, calcium, etc she is getting. Today, I have had exactly one (1) gram of fiber!!!

I love that feature. I try to get as much fiber I can. When I've had plenty of fiber I feel full and find it easier to stick with the plan. Use this feature to your advantage.

I use that feature all the time to help me decide what my snacks will be throughout the day. So I live in fear of when Spark is down!
