Burning Mouth

Sunday, October 09, 2011

Not only do I have laryngitis, but my mouth feels as if i had burnt it. It is painful to eat. So, I looked it up on the internet and it is a bona fide syndrome. Take a guess which group of people is most affected: middle aged women. How about that? Anyone else ever have it? I had it once before, and it makes eating a very bad experience. I would rather be fat than not be able to eat. Horrible.

To be ill, or not to be....

Sunday, October 09, 2011

Could not do much Spark, was on a trip to Apple Hill, a lovely region near Placerville, California. Full of farms with pumpkins and apples, beautiful roads through Normal Rockwell painting type countryside.

I was getting sick before the trip, but I just ignored it, now I am really sick. Lost my voice, food tastes awful, and I am coughing all night. Well, I probably would have gotten sick anyway if I had babied myself.

I just decided I was going to ignore being sick, and see how that worked. I told everyone I was fine and continued to do things that had already been planned. People don't really notice, you know, it is interesting. My mother is such a complainer, I wanted to try a new approach. Just ignore not feeling well. OH well.................

Stupidity

Wednesday, October 05, 2011

Lately, I keep forgetting things, and doing stupid things. Like I was at Costco, and wildly bought a bunch of stuff I should not have. Then, I had to wait in long lines to return a huge frying pan that would never have fit on my stove, and two jackets I did not need at all. I also bought some calcium gummy bears because according to Spark I am not getting enough calcium and vitamin D. So, this morning, I was entering the nutritional info into the place "enter a food not listed" where you put the calories, vitamins, etc. I discovered that they are intended for 2-4 year olds!!! So, the percentage of calcium has to be very different than what would be needed for someone like me. I really feel like I am losing my mind, what there is of it!!!

Even with a list in hand, I have a hard time resisting those great buys that catch my eye. Without a list ..... I forget what I am shopping for the minute I walk through the door of the store.

You are not losing your mind. You have become of us. I bet you don't put the wrong things in the wrong places. I do that on a regular basis. I put all kinds of things in the refrigerator, before I realize what I'm doing.
Just take a deep breath, and you'll be alright.

Even with a list, I end up coming home with $25 worth of stuff I didn't intend to buy. I blame it on all those MBA's out there ganging up on us impulse shoppers and figuring out how to out smart us with clever merchandising. You're not stupid, unless we all are!

I think we all have 'those' days. I bought a jacket for winter from the catalog online because it was on sale When I tried it on, it didn't fit. I kept thinking I'd lose weight, but I didn't. Lucky for me, the woman at the catalog department let me return it even though I waited 6 months!!

Keep the faith -- I'm sure today is a better day.

Those things are not "STUPID"........they are "NORMAL" for all of us! I ordered a bathing suit one time in a size 22. Received it and it would not fit my left leg - much less any other parts of me! Turned out I had order by "chest size" - so I kept it for a granddaughter!

BTW......it was a cute suit and it did fit her! Keep laughing........it's good for the soul!

    Hi Carol,
I think you're having an "off" day. I'll bet you will laugh about it next week.
Nevertheless, it is upsetting when it happens. When I have a day like that, I too think I'm crazy and that it's permanent. Thank heavens (so far) it's temporary.
If I am aware, before I do anything, that I am having this type of day, I hide out...putter around, whatever...and just try to stay out of trouble. Ha!
Hope your's is a one-of.
Hugs, Sandra

Missed a Day

Tuesday, October 04, 2011

Was overnight at my daughter's house and missed doing the blog. Her husband was away for a few days, and we had a nice intimate time together; she is pregnant with baby #2, a girl, and she has a year and a half year old son. It just seems a shame that things are so much harder for young people now than they were for us at the same age. Her husband has no job, the house they bought was just exhorbitantly priced for such a junky place, and she gets no help from his side of the family.

I ate a ridiculous amount of food yesterday, being off the grid so to speak. Also, am still hobbling around, and cannot do my walks, although I could do upper body exercises, but have lost my motivation for it.

One day is just that: one day. Think of how many days you've made great choices and walked on towards that healthy lifestyle! Do what you can when you can, and just take baby steps. One at a time will lead to more and more, and before you know it you'll be back on track and seeing this rough patch as a little bump in the road that made you stronger. You can do it!

Sounds like it's time to focus your energies on something that you can do something about - your health! You can only do so much for your dd, and stressing won't help. Plan out your meals, exercise those upper body muscles and do what you can!

Suggestions for Spark???

Sunday, October 02, 2011

It would be helpful if all the food tracker items were standardized. For example, I have gotten into the habit of weighing things in grams. Many of the spark foods come in this unit. But today, I wanted to measure grapes, and there were only 2 units, individual grape, and cup. Well, a cup of big grapes would weigh differently than a cup of small grapes, and I don't understand why they did not have grams for this one. It seems like they should have ounces, grams, individual item, and cups. All the units, and people choose which unit to always use to measure that fits best with their lifestyle.

Spark has really bent over backwards to make tracking pretty easy, and this one addition would help even more. Where can I make this suggestion????

I do get grams on my spark nutrition tracking for grapes, there must be something wrong with your grapes!! If you can not get, you can use what others have tracked and change the wt accordingly. I use this option often.
Good Luck.

If I were you, I'd measure out individual grapes, into a cup, and add that as a "food not listed" and then make it a favorite and just use that number from now on. The slight variation in the number of calories probably won't be enough to worry about.

Or go to another website, like Calorie King and use their numbers, make it a favorite. Then when you have grapes you just go to YOUR favs and not bother with Sparks info.
