New Start? Jump Start 12/30/10

Thursday, December 30, 2010

Rather than wait until the proverbial January 1, I am getting a head start on returning to---- I was going to say 'fitness program' ----but really it is "making habit changes program." I read the Spark essay on exercise first thing in the morning. So, even though my face was freezing cold, I put on walking clothing, put on headphones and did a short, first walk to start the habit. Then since the headphones were in, I realized it would be easier to do weed pulling right there and then instead of going back into the house. My hand tendonitis gets bad if I try to do too much, so I am planning to do just half an hour of gardening every single day. I want to make this a habit also. I think I will make a check list, like Fitness Freak on this website.

Then I entered my food for breakfast in the nutrition tracker before even eating it. I should check the calories first.

Plan for new year.

1. Wake up (this takes half an hour to an hour)
2. Put on walking clothing (this sets the mood)
3. Walk one mile (don't forget camera for great early morning ocean photos)
4. Garden one half hour
5. Take shower

Whoops-- forgot eating. Hmm.... I do not like to plan my meals for the day ahead of time. Every time I do, it just never works out. Not sure if I could instill that habit. Too many variables.

Carolee, this is a wonderful new "early start" program. I love that you know your limits and are working within those to accomplish what you want. So many wait until Jan 1 (as that seems to be a good time), but starting early may just work to your advantage to keep on track!

I think I'll copy your lead.

Good from yesterday
1. I tracked every food item and measured most of the food items.
2. I put out a bowl of 2 cut up apples and snacked on them throughout the day.
3. I did fifteen minutes of the exercise ball. It was fun.
4. I managed to clear out the junk from one area of my basement.
Bad from yesterday.
1. I had way too much wine with dinner.
2. I am starting to track sodium and it was too much too.
3. I felt very very lonely in the evening.
Now today is a new day. I am going to write specific goals and put out a checklist for myself.

One more thing: I put out little bowls of cut up apples, and strawberries to snack on throughout the day. A GREAT idea.

5. Do yoga before going to bed. Use yoga tape -25 minutes.
6. Finish Christmas shopping.
7. Finish clearing of computer room.
8. Start basement clean up, items to donate to Salvation Army.
9. Re-read this list tonight and check off what was done.

Three Steps Forward 12/9/10

Friday, December 10, 2010

1. Yesterday was the first day since starting Spark 2 years ago that I actually wrote down every single item that went into my mouth!!!

2. I did yoga exercises before I went to bed, after reading Dr Oz statement that people who practice yoga lose weight easier. (I can quote it for you if needed, I saved the article from the paper)

3. I accomplished all of my goals yesterday except the 15 minutes with the exercise ball. Will try again today. But I did do five minutes. (well, maybe it was 3)

What have I learned:

From #1 Keep trying!!! Don't give up.
From #2 Skip the murders in the paper, scan it for motivational articles related to your goals.
From #3 Set reasonable goals for the day.
