Not bad!!! Only 65 per serving. Wonder what a serving is, though....

Stock Market

Friday, September 23, 2011

I keep worrying about the stock market, because it is what pays for her caregiver, but she says, "Oh, the stocks go up, the stocks go down"

I assume what is in the stock market is not money that is needed in the next 5 years. Otherwise, it shouldn't be in the stock market.

Just had a shot of brandy with my 93 year old mother. She has one every day at 4pm. (see photo) She will be 94 in December and we spent time discussing the Wall Street Journal and her investments!!! Can you even believe it?

Have to find out calories now.

Sounds like she is healthy and alert. That is wonderful. Sounds like my Grandmother who lived healthy life until 93 and the doctor said nothing really wrong, her body just wore out. She ate healthy, stayed active and had a shot of whiskey each evening after her dinner.

Good for her and also for you!
She's a hoot.
Isn't it great to have a mom that's hip and up with the times?

5% Challenge

Thursday, September 22, 2011

I am going to start a Spark challenge to lose 5% of my weight. I have never done anything like this before, and I am not sure if the style of it will fit with my personality, but we will see. What I have noticed about Spark is that each individual picks up on different aspects of Spark, and uses Spark differently. That is the beauty of it.

I really like the trivia game, but I feel irritated by it today, because knowing which has more calories, a Wendy's salad or Taco bell salad, well, how could anyone get 100%???? And why is anyone eating at fast food places if they are serious about Spark?

I do see that Spark is educating people about which fast foods are less caloric, but as far as I am concerned, it is like an alcoholic having to say no to all alcohol. If a person wants to lose weight, they really have to say no to all fast food establishments. I am sure some people will disagree with me on this point.

I think you will get a lot out of the 5% challenge. It really helped me to be accountable in the summer challenge.

I agree on your assessment of the food choices - When do I have 300+ calories to spend on a snack? We do eat some fast food but the choices are between the smallest burger or chicken. Fortunately my DH is willing to split a small fries so I get a fries fix. I cannot do caffeine so my drink is always water. At Burger King my usual is a whopper Jr with no mayo. Best choice is Subway to keep calories down and still feel full but unfortunately that kicks up the sodium.
Yesterday's choice of a carmel apple or chocolate covered banana was just silly - I would not allow either on my lifestyle plan . (Learning not to say DIET)

You can do the 5% - stay focused and use the tools on Spark People.

I have noticed that the food showdowns are usually NOT good choices! Like the fair food - caramel apple or whatever the other one was....NEITHER good!

Good luck with your 5%

Spoilage has its benefits

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Figured out my calories before my traditional muesli breakfast. Had leftover half and half from party last week. Was going to treat myself and really looking forward to it. (can't waste it) Guess what? it was spoiled!!! So, I had to use milk, recalculated in food tracker, and cut the calories in half.
