It is so hard to have balance in life. I would like to have just one day with nothing to do, but every day something happens. Most of the things are good, but it is all just too much sometimes. I need a day of rest!!! Still, it is better than having day after day with nothing. That is a great fear I have.

    Are you finding it hard to adjust to this new retirement?? I like Vista do enjoy some days with NOTHING to do. After working for so many years it is pure luxury --- and I'm trying to enjoy every minute of it!! Have you taken on too many responsibilities since you've quit teaching? I was going to volunteer and sub and for now I've just put those things on hold so I can enjoy now and then when I'm ready I"ll take on more.......maybe!!!

    I have had a few days with NOTHING to do.......and I have thoroughly enjoyed them - guess I am still recuperating from summer with all the kids!

    I too look for balance and find it hard to achieve. Sometimes I feel like I have to prioritize and I don't know what to give up. It doesn't seem fair at times. But I keep at it and hope that all the things that I need to get done will get done. Thanks for blogging.

Not Well Affects Fitness

I am not real sick, but just not well today, and I do not have the energy to do my Spark exercises. I am just starting to get the hang of how to enter the data. It is more complicated than the food journal and takes time to learn, but I can see the benefits, big time, of tracking fitness work.

Anyone else have tips about the fitness tracker? Not all of the exercises Spark tells us about are on the fitness tracker and you have to enter them separately. I like the "demo" aspect, and yesterday I stood in front of the computer, copying the little figure jerkily lifting weights. Very helpful. Also they have videos from Coach Nicole, but they are pretty rigorous.

    I really like the fitness tracker, and I use it daily.
The Leslie Sansone DVDs are easier for me. There are one mile-five mile. Most days, I choose of of those or do the treadmill. I also get a walk in outdoors or in stores.
The fitness tracker is one of my favorite components of Spark's program.

    The only cardio I do right now is my pedaler (2 pedal pedaler that sits on the floor and I sit in a chair) It's the easiest at this point for me due to my TKR in June) Does it really get my heartrate up? No prob. not but for me it's MORE movement than I ever normally do!! (and it really helps the bend and flexion in my knee!)
I do do strength training -- one I've kind of made up on my own from ones I've seen here and added them to my favorites as a 3 day a week routine.

My one tip -- is once you find an exercise you like - make sure you SAVE it to your favorites in your fitness tracker so you don't have to look it up again!

It is 8:30, and I don't dare start in on spark. Before i know it, it will be 10:30 and I have tons of stuff to do today!!

Still, I am not skipping it today, just won't be able to do my point trolling!!! ha ha

    Ha ha! I guess we all play that game. I've been mostly off site for 2 days. Terrible eating. My sister is coming for a visit, and the house was a wreck. Does panic burn calories?

I was out of town for a few days, and eating my old way, not recording the calories, wow, it felt weird. I am so glad to be back. I don't dare weigh myself though.

I have become very fond of the Spark "trivia" questions. They are hard, and so far, I have only be able to get 50%. At first, I just guessed, did not even think, and I only got about 30% correct.Once more, what amazes me about Spark is the thoughtfulness that seems to have gone into their little devices. Has anyone else done the trivia questions?

    I do trivia all the time. My goal is to get in the 90 percentile some month...for the ENTIRE month. (100 would be nice, but that is pushing it.)

    I don't know what my average is - but I do know that I reset the quizzes once a month and that the more I take it, the better I get! Some subjects I know well - others not so much!

    Yes - I do them for the points as well but also for the information. I do find it to be true (you and I now being RETIRED teachers :)) ) that when it say ONLY,ALL,NEVER, that more often than not -- it's FALSE!!! What do you think? Since I'vestarted back I think my overall %age is now at 67% But for this month its about 50%!!!! Are you ready for the 5% challenge? I have a feeling it won't start til Oct...not sure. And you know what -- maybe you don't but I"m going to tell you anyway -- perhaps you should weigh yourself now...and the reason I say that is 1. it keeps you accountable to the good AND the bad that we do.'ll give you a reason to gain momentum to continue and 3. cuz I just think so!!! Now .... you have my permission to yell at me!!!!

    I like to do the Trivia questions too. Some subjects I'm better at than others. Mostly I answer questions to rack up points & get to the bonus spin!

    I used to do them but then got frustrated because they have what I call 'trick' questions thrown in there, lol. It's good, though, because they give an explanation and you can use it as a learning tool.

In Jammies

Wow, it is 9:15 and I am still in my jammies. I usually wake up really early, and even go on my walk by 7:30 am, but yesterday I had a big family party and the house is a mess. I have done these family parties my whole life, but now, I see the effects of aging. It is getting harder and harder for me to do them. It is not the physical work of it, but the confusion of all the people arriving, remembering what to serve when, all the babble. This scares me; I hope I am not getting early onset Alzheimers.

    You are not getting Alzheimer's. You just have to much on your plate as one doctor told me.
Having a big crowd over even family is a special time, but can be hard on the nerves.

We have DH's family of 18 every year the Saturday before Christmas. I will start getting ready in October.

    I've always heard - but not entirely sure - that if you THINK you're getting Alheimers, you're not, b/c you wouldn't KNOW that you were!Make sense?? Since I've retired I'm usually waking up between 8-8:30 (sometimes 9!!!!) and it amazes me. I keep telling dh that it's b/c I had to get up EARlY for all those years...I'm staying in bed to make up for it! But today it was off to the nurse prac. for my 'welcome to medicare' physical!!

    9:15 ?? That's EARLY for me! Sometimes I don't get out of jammies until early afternoon!

Glad you are able to spend time and prepare parties for large numbers. I would absolutely freak out if I had to do that.......I am SO KITCHEN CHALLENGED!

    I'm continually amazed at our similarities! I also had a big family party yesterday. I do about 4-5 a year, when we're in CT for the summer. And I'm also finding it a little harder every year. The deal with MY family is I do most of the cooking and DD provides the house, since my house is too small. Other family members provide the sides. So I have a lot of food to haul over to my DD's house. There's usually between 12 - 20 people at the parties, depending on how many grandchildren invite their boy/girl friends.

The occasion this time was my special brother's 78 birthday.

    I can identify with what you are saying. I think that anyone gets flustered and confused with a lot of people about and it does get more difficult with age, at least for me.

Take good care of yourself. I have heard that if you worry about Alzheimer's that is a clue that you do not have it!
