Big, big goal

For me, giving myself a treat for achieving a goal does not work, because I give myself whatever I want!!! I do not feel deprived whatsoever. However, using this blog to talk about these questions is fantastic, because I found something I really want that is hard to get. And it would make a good prize for achieving my goal.

This morning I went to get new tires for my car, and they gave me a loaner car. Oh, my !!! it is fantastic. My car is 2004, which is fine, really, but lately I have been losing my confidence in driving. When I got into this car, I just felt so confident. It was like a new me, I do not really understand why this happened. Something about the way it handled just felt so good.

So, now I have a goal: a new car. To achieve this goal, I have to cut out extraneous spending. Because I would never buy a car and be in debt for it. I want to save money to buy it, and by that time, a new model will probably be even better. One way to cut out extra spending is the chocolates I buy, the eating out, the wasteful little gee-gaws. It may not sound like much, but I know I can really make big cuts, bad expensive habits I have developed. Also, I deserve to be paid for some of the work I am doing for my mother.

But more important, I will not allow myself to do this unless I have achieved my goal weight of 130 pounds.

Now, I am aware that right now I am in the flush of excitement, so this goal may change. But if it motivates me just for today, then that is good.

I feel at my age I deserve a nice car. Of course, my old car is actually pretty nice, and I said that to myself 7 years ago. This is something for me to think about. Also, both my kids have rather old somewhat dangerous cars, so I could give them my "old" car. Another way to rationalize the idea!!! I mean, I actually do not need a new car, thats for sure.

    I think that's a splendid goal - just don't talk yourself out of it when a bump in the road comes up. Think about it every day and stay the course.

    Wants often become needs, and it sounds like you NEED this car for all you go through to get it. It really does seem like a good motivator.

Goals, Revisited

This morning's Spark email had a bit about goal setting that was excellent. It said to reward yourself with something special. I actually cannot think of a meaningful, motivating reward for myself. I will keep this in my mind as the day progresses and may come up with one. It may or may not be a technique that works for me.

If I look at yesterday's goals right now, will this blog disappear? Not sure. Sometimes things disappear on Spark.

Oh, goodie, it is still there. Okay, I achieved 3 out of 5 goals. Still have to sort my papers, and certainly did not end up at 1500 calories!!!

Goals Again
1. Primo - Sort papers
2. Secondo - Eat 1500 calories.

WHY IS THIS SECOND?? Hmm... need to think about this.

3. Meet Carole at 2pm for butterfly walk in botanical garden.
4. Bring medications to mom's house.
5. Call auto dealer about new tires.

    I think the calorie goal is second because eating is something we do EVERY day and then do it again the next day. And the next. It's hard to make it seem like a big deal and put it as Numero Uno.

    I agree with Jeanne about giving yourself some free time. To me, it's a must. It can be a nap, reading a book, watching a movie, etc.
A treat just something for you inside.

    You know a reward can be something as simple as giving yourself an hour to read anything you want, a bubble bath, going to lunch with a friend (Carole) or just watching a good movie. Giving yourself permission to do these fun things is a reward too.

You are doing great. Goals are keeping you going.

Wow, setting a goal on Spark really works. I absolutely did not feel like going for the walk. But because I set the goal, I actually did it. You actually can see where I went from some place on this site. (I am not sure how to access it yet. )

What is fun about Spark is I am always discovering new things. Ever since I discovered this "route" business on the fitness page, it is so much more fun to walk. I walk and then can track my route on the google map they have and then put the minutes in and add it to the "fitness tracker"

MONDAY GOALS

I just love that Monday comes around and I can start over!!!! I was so great on walking and then last week I had so many activities that I skipped it, and before I knew it an entire week had gone by. When I saw my familiar haunts while driving to the store, with the cute street names like Mandalay Lane and Oriole Walk, I was surprised by feeling an intense pang of nostalgia.

That just shows how much I have enjoyed the discoveries of those walks. I am not doing them just for exercise, but I am also doing them for my soul.

Goal for today
1. Walk one mile.
2. Eat 1500 calories.
3. Sort all papers in computer room.
4. Take care of mom medications
5. Meet Elaine at 3pm

See, it is that last one "meet Elaine at 3pm" that makes me want to skip the walk. I can only do so many things in one day. It is very important to keep up with friends and she and I are going to have dinner and go to a lecture on the Dutch masters. We already discussed having a light dinner so we won't fall asleep!!! (she is very thin, and eats a lot) I will have to leave the house at 2:30 so already it seems like there is "not enough time to go for the walk." It is 6:30 am right now. I would rather fiddle at the computer than put my shoes on and get out there!!! ha ha

    I also can relate! I had a bad exercise week, last week, mostly because of the heat wave.

I also can't fit too much into a day anymore. If I have to go anyplace, it takes me 2 hours to get ready and I don't really know why. So that cuts into my exercise time. I don't know how some people can go exercising at 5 in the morning and then go to work. Even if I have a LATE morning appointment, I don't have time to walk first.

This morning, I did go out for my first walk, since July 19th.

    Oh boy!! I can so relate to you!!! My new found friend, we have so much in common!!! I just wrote in my status update how much I love Monday's!! and then I see you've written a blog, I read it, and Yes!! to Monday's. I love them too, for the very same reason you do.

And how I can relate to every word you wrote!!!

OK, so I'm curious. Did you make it out for your walk?

Thanks to everyone. It does make a difference when we read each other's blogs. I just read the one from one of our team members who talks about using a timer. A great idea I plan to put into practice as soon as I finish fiddling with the computer. Oh, no, I better use it for my computer time!!! Walk the talk, is that the expression?

Am very annoyed with gophers eating beautiful coreopsis that I spent good money on. Is this my biggest problem in life? Well, then, I should shoot myself!!! ha ha, just kidding. I cannot even read the paper anymore while I eat breakfast, the news is all so bad. When I was young, you never heard of these mass killings, or really any killing at all. I recall the worst thing that happened when I was a child was a runaway car that did kill someone. What must it be for young people to grow up with this craziness always around them?

    Sometimes I wonder if the world is changing so much. Everytime anything happens, the media informs us. That's technology with upgrades constantly changing.
There was violence and tragedies in Biblical days; however just the surrounding people knew about it.
It does seem to be more widespread now as far as we know.
