No Lunch Not A Smart Thing

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Where am I? Right now I am starving. It is 3pm. Very strange how one day 800 calories is enough to satisfy until dinner, and now today, it certainly is NOT.

Maybe I will have a cup of coffee.

One reason I think I am not satisfied is that I did not have a real lunch.

Appointment at 12:15 to take mom to the foot doctor.
Get call at 11:15 she is afraid to go; have to reassure her.
Get call from dentist at 11:30, about a complaint she has been daily mentioning for the last 2 weeks, he has an opening today at 1:30. I grab it.
Meanwhile drop off mom with caregiver at foot doctor and rush to pharmacy and store to pick up items she needs.
2:30 get another call from her; worried if she gets enough of my dad's pension (a daily topic)

Is it any wonder her picture figures prominently on my spark page?

But no time to each lunch so I ate two Nature Valley Peanut Granola Bars instead. I keep these in my purse for her in case she gets hungry. They tasted good, but I do not think the calories satisfied me.

I should rewrite this.

Try keeping some good quality protein bars in your purse instead of the granola bars. They pack a lot of calories but very little punch. And like the others said, you are a devoted daughter. Funny how our roles change as time goes on. But of course, we wouldn't have it any other way.

What's for lunch today???

I keep Slimfast in the car for just those times when I can't eat "real food". There might be less fat and more protein in the Slimfast than there are in the Nature Valley bars, but I'm not sure.

You sure are a devoted daughter! Your Mother is so luck to have you! emoticon

    Carol,
I can relate totally. Lunch has been a problem for me for a long time. I think I don't need any and then around 2:30 I start eating the bad stuff and there goes another day.
However, it may be just an unusual day for you and you will probably do well again. Good luck!

Subterfuge?

Sunday, June 26, 2011

Just looked it up; 100 grams of French Fries is 200 calories. I still do not have a mental picture of what that looks like. I bet it is very small. I realize eating out is my total downfall. I eat out with my fiance and if I do not eat all the food, he finishes his and starts in on mine. He is already overweight, with heartburn, high cholesterol, high blood pressure (takes meds) Sometimes I eat the extra food, so he won't eat it off my plate. Now I realize I have to take a little container and sneak the food into it. I wonder if I can do this without him noticing. I will let you know if I can manage this.

Telling other people how to eat is often counterproductive, so I just wince when I see what he eats. I know I cannot change him. Do others have this problem?

My dh is 57 and this is the first time in his life he has worried about the foods that he is eating. And he is asking me questions about this and that, calorie content, alcohol, etc. I could never have given him all this information unless he was ready to absorb it, so I think it's all about timing. And desire. An idea for when you are eating out: ask for a To-Go Box when you order, and then put half your meal in it for the next day's lunch. That way you won't overeat and your fiance can't pick off your plate.

Those "eating out" calories add up fast! I had a small Subway sandwich, chips and a drink for lunch and it took care of 2/3 of my day's calorie allotment. You are wise to realize that you can't control his eating behaviors - you can only try to make wise choices for yourself.

100 Grams of French Fries

Sunday, June 26, 2011

I am very proud that I have been consistent in checking in every day and doing the food journal. I still cannot get to 1800 calories a day. It is amazing to me how hard that is. But I feel hopeful. At least now, with the food journal, I really can see how much I eat. I am even recording those snacks, the five little chocolates (so tiny) I popped into my mouth last night. I see that Spark is an entire educational experience. I still cannot figure out the calories when I eat out, but slowly, by weighing foods at home, and then really looking at the portion, I am getting better at estimating. How much is 100 grams of French Fries? What does that look like? I almost can answer that question. Can you?

Go to McDonalds and buy a small order of french fries. Let them get cold so you won't be tempted to eat them - yuck, yuck. Then weigh them on your scale so you can get a visual! Then let us know the verdict!

Good Work!

Saturday, June 25, 2011

I give myself a compliment as last night's dinner at a restaurant was delicious and I was not stuffed or overdid it. Still went over 2000 calories.

This is all a learning process and I think it's good to recognize your contentment with feeling 'just right' after eating a meal. You're not too far from your calorie goal - just get out for a nice long walk today and enjoy the fresh air.
