Re-Read Your Goals

Sunday, June 19, 2011

Just reviewed my goals of three years ago when I did the Spark page. Has it been that long? I have been able to do 2 and 3 pretty well. I do not eat ordinary Hersheys chocolate, but only good chocolate, so really that is an achievement. And I have been fairly consistent with food journal recording. But #1 and #4 are hard. Especially #4.

My Goals:
1. My goal is to be totally aware of what I eat.
2. I will record every bit that goes into my mouth.
3. I will not eat anything I do not like.
4. I will eat half the restaurant meal, and take the other half home in a little container.

Suggestions for Spark???

Sunday, June 19, 2011

I am getting to know Spark fairly well now, but I am not sure where we can post suggestions for their team. One thing about the tracker that could be improved is the way the foods are named. For example, I put coffee in my favorites, but it is under R, "regular coffee", so every time I look it up, it takes longer because it is under R, not C. They should list it as coffee, regular; coffee, decaf, etc etc.

Also, I like using the foods from other members, but often they just say "serving" and do not say the size of the serving. I wonder if Spark could somehow require the size to be posted.

Where would I put these ideas?

    Carolee,

Look at the bar at the top and click on Healthy Lifestyle then Nutrition. There are several articles and links including a Nutrition FAQs. Some lead to the people who wrote the articles and some to SP message boards on that topic. You could also look at the SP recipe section where Chef somebody (MEG?) creates recipes that are nutritious. She might answer some questions.

Good luck,
Kay

Yeah, the tracker can be kind of tricky. I add the foods to my favorites and just memorize where they are. Yes, coffee should be coffee. Silly. That's how they have it.

As for size or serving. I look at the package of what I'm eating and if it matches the nutritional info for the tracker. If it says serving 300 calories and I see that the package says serving 1/3 of pizza 300 calories, then I know that's a serving. Takes more work on your part. If you enter your information for foods then you can enter the serving size You could write (and some members do) Pizza (serving size 1/3 of pizza) in the name of the food, for example.

Spark Revs Up

Saturday, June 18, 2011

Spark is really revving itself up. I see they gave me 1000 extra goodie points. Encouraging us to contact each other truly does help. Diets do not work, everyone knows that, it is statistically proven. Yet the diet business is huge because it is human nature to believe a fantasy. Spark is so different than a diet. The way they set things up they are helping us to change habits that are years and years and years in the making. Think how hard that really is.

I am curious, who makes these decisions about how to set up the items on the website? It is just so intelligently done. I am constantly being amazed.

They have a great team of experts from different fields. I think they listen to the needs of the members.

I am surprised SP hasn't put a huge dent in the diet pill business...or maybe it has! vista emoticon

Treasure Box Discovery

Friday, June 17, 2011

Spark is like a treasure box. Every time I turn around, I discover some new aspect of it that I really like. Today I realized you can click on "notes report" and see the notes you have made about your food journal for the last month. This feedback was incredibly helpful to me.

Thursday Eating Out

Thursday, June 16, 2011

Although I had 2200 calories today, I still feel good about how I ate at restaurants. Everything I ate was delicious, there were no wasted calories. I had a great day in Sonoma County, beautiful weather, lovely art galleries, fun with my Jack.
