Queen of modification!

Thursday, December 08, 2011

Well,
I am so tired of being sick. The stupid cough has been hanging on - but I decided to push forward with my workout this morning. I had to do a lot of modifications, but I managed not to spiral off into a coughing fit! emoticon.

In this process, I have had the opportunity to see how far I have come on my health journey. I have been making modifications with my eating, keeping in mind I need to have tons of nutrients to fight this bronchitis and that I was on exercise restriction. I am sure the scale might tip up a bit, but not near as much if I didn't have all this info packed away ---and using it.

I was also delighted with myself this morning when I realized how easy it was for me to modify my work out. I could feel what my body needed and could sense the danger zones. A very happy compromise for me since I have been going crazy without my workouts.

So today I crown myself emoticon the Queen of Modification! ( I am more thankful for spark people helping teach me how to build life lasting health habits that keep me in tune with me.)

It is exciting! Especially when you can measure how far you come, outside the scale.

You are emoticon! Isn't it neat once that change happens? It is such a different mindset when sickness changes from a welcome break from the torture of exercise to sickness becoming just a minor obstacle that you can work around to make sure you get in the movement that makes you feel sooooooo good!

Getting there

Monday, December 05, 2011

Bronchitis is really kicking my rump! I was good and slept until 2 yesterday. Got up for a few hours and went to church for our congregational meeting. I was back in bed and slept through the night.

I am feeling so much better. My stomach muscles are killing me from all the coughing. I keep trying to convince myself it is a fantastic core work out. emoticon I can actually utter a sentence without a ten minute coughing session.

My hope is to ease back into my work outs by Wed. You know, yoga poses and my stretch dvds. Just enough movement not to trigger a coughing fit.

Again, I can't thank you all enough for the prayers and well wishes. It really means the world to me.

Hope everyone has a sparktacular day.

Only a little naughty!

Saturday, December 03, 2011

Well, I was only a little naughty.

I baked a few dozen chocolate chip cookies. Loaded the car and drove to downtown Atlanta with Mike and Becca. We had lunch at Manuel's and zipped back to GA Tech to visit with Mary Kate (my cousins daughter) The girls giggled a bit and then we were on our way back home. I stopped off at Oak Grove Market for some of their wonderful Chicken Wild Rice Soup (just what the DR ordered)

A longer day than I should have taken, but I haven't seen my cousin in many years and he was flying back to Jersey tonight. ( homemade cookies are better than silly peanuts)

So I'm drugged up and snuggled up. Feeling blessed to have been with my precious family members.

(Mary Kate, my 15 yr old cousin was swimming at the National Championship. just 2 seconds short of qualifying for the Olympic tryouts. Super proud of her.)

Thanks to all who have been reminding me of the importance of resting to heal. I love my sparkfriends.

Bed Rest

Saturday, December 03, 2011

Ok, this is another whiny cranky blog. Sorry.

So, my doctor tells me I have a very serious case of bronchitis and was well on my way to pneumonia. I leave with a laundry list of scripts and the bed rest till Monday / No exercise til next week or the cough is completely gone. Then, being the great doctor he is and knowing his patient, repeats the bed rest/ no workouts rule. I pouted all the way out the door with him chiding me about getting back to my office and wrapping up my work and going to bed.

I did wrap up my desk at work and drugged up pretty well, but was commuted to attend a dinner party last evening. When I finally made it back to bed, this stupid cough medicine had me coughing til like 4am. How the heck am I gonna get any rest if the medicine that says may cause drowsiness is pushing all this gunk out of my lungs.

Oh, well. I will suck it up, take my meds and try to get the rest. I'd rather skip the cough syrup though.

Sorry for going on so much about being sick, I am a super bad patient.

You are all so wonderful. I was bad today, but resting now. My cousin flew in from Jersey (to Atlanta) and I had to drive down to GA Tech for a while. Did stop off at Oak Grove Market on the way home for their Chicken with Wild Rice soup for my dinner tonight.

I am thankful for all of you helping me be accountable.

I have taken my meds faithfully and am snuggled up with a book.

You are all a blessing to me.

    I'll be bossy emoticon (I'm a 1st born--I can't help it!) and say....
Take all your meds and get in bed and rest!
Even if you aren't sleeping, your body needs the inactivity so its energy can go to healing you. If you zap it of energy by being up and doing, there's not enough to heal you.
You'll get well sooner by resting...so
GO!
TO!
BED!

Boo is right.... being sick and/or injured really is a downer.

I know, because I'm nursing an Achilles injury, so no running for me for many months. Stinks, but we'll get back out there.
