Struggling to get back on track

Friday, February 05, 2010

I don't know why, but I'm having such a hard time getting back on track this week. I was afraid to do my cardio because it seemed like the problem with my toe(s) was a circulation issue, but it doesn't look like that is the case. So why am I having a hard time getting on my bicycle? And why am I eating fistfulls of chocolate chips and half a pizza for dinner? I've done this before but not for this many days and not at night. Evening eating has never been a problem for me before.

I haven't been posting or anything, hopefully this little blog gets my gears in motion. I know it's only a little toe, but running around and getting all these tests is exhausting. I also know everyone has bad weeks at work, but again, it's exhausting.

I just want to cuddle up on the couch with some Anne Rice and my kitty.

Bad week - can't wait for it to be over!

Monday, February 01, 2010

OK, apparently my toes are not broken, but I have raynaud disease. So I have to keep my feet warm at ALL costs! Well, I thought I was trying my best to keep them warm. Clearly not. The pain is pretty bad though, and now they're turning purple from the tissue dying or something. The good news is that I can go back on my bicycle - which I'll need since I ate my worries away at Mom's house and then chased it with a trip to the Steak and Shake for a, yup, shake. The bad news is, more tests to see what's causing it.

And I think I'm probably in big trouble at work because I was late again. It wasn't really my fault, there was a power out and my alarm didn't go off, but that's twice now in little over a month. I work a job and being late is NOT good. I can't believe this is happening!

This week is gonna be a bad one, I'm kinda disappointed that already I've responded by downing a chocolate shake and pigging out at Mom's.

emoticon But I'm scared about these toes! The doc said raynaud is a symptom of something else a lot of times! I've come so far with my health, and now this?! NOT FAIR!

When I have to protect myself, I announce, "I am a delicate flower." It sounds absurd, but at some point we all have to tend to ourselves as delicate creatures.

Buttermilk and Broken Toes

Thursday, January 28, 2010

OK, I'm back on track with trying new whole foods. I bought some organic buttermilk and did a little baking. Made some awesome soda bread. I never realized how easy soda bread was to make, why do we only have it on St. Patrick's Day? With only a few ingredients and replacing some of the regular flour with whole wheat, I made a delicious loaf of a family favorite using only natural organic ingredient. Boyfriend didn't like it though, I guess it's the caraway seeds. He's never liked anything with those in it.

But - I must be the most accident prone person I know! I JUST got the stitches out of my thumb, when after some contemplation I realized that one of my little toes that has been hurting off and on, but gradually getting worse, must in fact be broken. How and when I don''t know, but it's definitely got all the pain, numbness and discoloration of a broken toe. I broke another little toe on the same foot a couple years ago. So I'm stopping the cardio for a bit until I can see my doctor. I'm hesitant to go to a clinic or anything, because the last time that I broke a toe, they charged a fortune, took all kinds of X-rays and then taped my toes together with a band aid and sent me an $800 bill, of which the insurance only covered 80%!

So that's my accident prone life. Tomorrow I'm making buttermilk pancakes though! I'm loving this whole baking thing!

emoticon tomorrow!

I just went to the doctor because I was afraid I'd fractured my foot. I went yesterday and got x rays and turns out I have a sprain. Doctor said I have to stay off my foot for at LEAST 2 weeks so no cardio for me. :-(

You should put the recipe that you used up on here to share with everyone. As for the broken toe...that sucks. I have broke toes so many times working construction and auto work along with fingers here and there and refuse to go to the doctor because literally...they tape it. Thats it. So I feel your pain on the $800 medical bill for something like that!!!

It is wonderful that you like to bake. You can cut calories and still have an occasional treat! Have you tried using buttermilk to marinate chicken before breading and oven-baking? I don't really understand why, but the chicken becomes so tender!

At the beginning of January I read The Spark and was completely excited because I saw how it could help me set goals in other areas of my life. One of those other goals that I have is to become a CPA, something that has not been going well for me. (See past blog "Searching for my lost motivation" It's a long story...)

Well, today I made real progress towards this goal. I'm graduating in May, so I sat down with a teacher and planned a little time-line of what I need to do and when. She was great in giving me that little bit of extra motivation that I need and helped me set some goals to get this done. I feel a lot better now that I have a plan and someone to report back to on my progress towards reaching this goal.

So - I've set and met some goals, as per The Spark, and will be working on a vision collage this week to help keep me motivated! WooHoo!

Even if you are straight out of college, I recommend taking a CPA review course. I took the Becker course and passed the exam on my first try! It was well worth the money, the long nights, and all the homework. I also took the week before the exam off work (what a way to use vacation time)to do the comprehensive review. Sister, I have been there and it's a lot of difficult work. But have faith in yourself, be dedicated and

OK, so I tried a couple of new foods this week, like I committed to but then got lazy about.

The first set was accidental. I think my boyfriend was trying to cheer me up by acting a little silly. I had a bad night after cutting myself while drying dishes. After the trip to the clinic to get stitched up (such a little cut, too!), I had to pick up some bandages and figured we may as well get some fresh fruit and veggies. I wanted grapes, and my boyfriend started laughing at how small they were. (They were pretty small, but yummy and tart!)

This lead to him picking out these miniature apple things (more trouble to eat than they were worth) teeny tiny bananas (tasted the same as the regular kind) and some mini whole wheat bagels. While none of the food was as good as we hoped they would be, at least we tried some new stuff and laughed our butts off - not the typical end to a day with stitches!

I also tried hot wheat cereal, which I really liked! So I'll be adding that to my breakfast rotation.

See! I can try new things! I think next week it's time to try kale or turnip greens or something.

LOL at "Actual Size" I love trying out new foods--this week I've been using a lot of red peppers and they are so sweet and yummy--I made a dinner burrito for the first time (with the peppers) and it's definitely one of my favorites. :)
