Ugh, slow start!!
Last summer I was able to jump into this pretty quickly. Now I am finding it hard to eat within the guidelines and find the time to exercise. Hopefully by the end of this summer, these will be habits I will just keep up with, instead of having to start over.

I knew that school would not be the time to continue my weight loss journey. My plan was to maintain my weight and then lose 20 more pounds this summer. I fell off the wagon a bit when we were stuck inside during December, and we made lots of fudge. So, at the end of last summer, I lost 22 pounds, now I have gained 6 pounds back. I still feel really good about that. Now my life has calmed down-I am doing an internship from home and then have the summer off, and I am ready to grab my bike and my food journal and become gazelle-like again

The summer is winding down and wrapping up!
I have never been this dedicated to weight loss. I was always in a healthy range, never satisifed with how I looked but not motviated enough to change it. After babies, the weight would come down through breastfeeding but never all the way down. I tried sparkpeople before, but lost momentum pretty quickly and left after losing 6 pounds, maybe I did a month?
Now, I have been actively sparking for 2 months and a week. I have maintained my goal of burning at least 4600 calories per week and exercising at least 90 minutes a day on average. Most weeks I have been able to push past 5000 calories. And almost every day I have biked at least 10 miles.
Through this dedication, I have lost 19 pounds and 4 dress sizes! My size 18s were getting tight before I started, and now I am wearing 14s, and starting to squeeze into 12s. I have 23 more pounds to go, and hope to be a solid 8 or 10.
Also, my stamina is so much higher. I used to have to walk my bike up certain hills, now I can get up them in the higher gears! I am sure that I haven't tackled every hill yet, but there has been serious progress.
On a completely unrelated note, a peregrine falcon just landed in our front yard! I have finally realized my dream of having active bird feeders on my front porch, and we have a lot of visitors, mostly black capped chickadees. The other day I read in a book that sometimes falcons or hawks will visit and you should take that as a compliment because it means you have a healthy bird population. I live in an urban nieghborhood on 1/10 of an acre, so I never thought they would visit here. My hubby had taken a walk last week and had seen one, so that kind of got my hopes up. Just now, I was sitting on my computer and my son was watching the birds out the window. A flacon swooped down and tried to land on the feeder, then landed on the fence next to the window. It sat there about 5 minutes and we were able to get pictures of it! It was really awesome!

  Awesome! A size 12 is so close to being reality. I'm back in my 12's and can actually sqeeze into a pair of 10 jeans that two months ago I couldn't even get up over my hips. I can't breathe very well, but I didn't have to lay on the bed to zip them either! LOL

I love falcons. I wish I could have feeders out in my yard, but there's no good place for them. I live in a duplex and my neighbor's kid, although not a bad kid, would be messing with it all the time.

Canoe ride

My boys are enrolled in an awesome free park program in our town. They just started going this week. It is three hours every day. My dh and I decided to take advantage of the free time and have a date. Usually that would mean going downtown for lunch, or maybe taking a bike ride. But lately we have been talking about canoes and how much fun they would be. I thought about how are dates usually revolve around eating or drinking and suggested that instead we could see about renting a canoe. We found a place nearby that rents them for $10 for two hours. We packed a picnic lunch, rented a canoe and paddled out to a park, had our lunch and rowed back. It was an hour total of canoeing. We had a ton of fun.
Unfortunately I didn't get my bike ride in yet. I should have gone this morning! My goal is 10 miles a day and I cannot let a canoe trip stand in my way. I am waiting for it to cool off a bit more and then I am off on my bike.

Five pounds lost!

YAY!! I am down to 185!! When I started, I was 192, so I have actually lost 7 pounds, but these fives pounds were the ones that have been there for a couple of weeks, turning into muscle.
I didn't start measuring from my first day, but I think my pre-spark measurements were 38 inch waist and 48 inch hips. Now, I am at 34 inch waist and 43 inch hips! Hooray!
I have a wrap skirt that I try on every day. It is almost closing all the way. Size 14s are starting to fit but be a little tight. I was pushing out of 18s when I started.
Off to shop for my new, cute bike helmet!
