Inches

Tuesday, May 04, 2010

It was time to get the old tape measure out for the month. I just do my waist, as that seems to be the area Dr. Oz focuses on and I read is the most important to diminish. Down 1.5 inches from last month! This makes a total of 6.5 inches less since starting SP in early February. No wonder those old pants are falling off...
So, more good SP progress!

Soaking in goodness

Sunday, May 02, 2010

Just back from the Cape Cod Symphony performance... concert of Hayden and Brahms. As I breathed in the music, it struck me that music to me is like Vitamin D. Like we all need to get a certain amount of sun to get enough Vitamin D, I need to get exposure to live music (doesn't always have to be classical) to be well. I always feel great after a concert. Like the Beach Boys song - "Good, good vibrations..."

You found out something important to you. Do you use an ipod when you exercise? More music to make the time pass.

Less is More

Saturday, May 01, 2010

I got my lab test results back for my appointment next week with my endocrinologist. I made, what I feel is, significant improvement all around. I was last tested 1/28, just before joining Spark in early February. Old A1C was 6.9; new is 6.1. Old cholesterol was 204; new is 118. Old LDL was 101; new is 52. Old Triglycerides were 204 (yikes); new - 74. All my other measures were in the normal range too. So, the only one I still need to move downwards is the A1C (6.0 is the beginning of the normal range for anyone reading this that doesn't know diabetes stats). And, on that one, I don't have too far to go.
I'm hoping that by the end of the year, I will still be showing consistently good numbers; so my doc will agree to try starting to cut my meds. She feels all diabetics should take some statins, but I could get the dosage down.
With these numbers, I think she'll be doing the happy dance when she sees me. I was when I opened the envelope.

Hit another interim goal

Thursday, April 29, 2010

With my weight loss this week, I am now more than 50% to my SP goal. Phew! This is checkpoint 6 on my 14 point plan. As my reward, I think I'll go jeans shopping at the mall next week. Right now I look like Farmer Bob in all my jeans. You know when you can put your jeans on without unzipping and unbuttoning them, it's time to move on to a smaller size.
Although I am 5"8", I am long-waisted; so I actually usually take a petite pair of slacks. This makes jeans shopping even more challenging (solved when I am a normal weight, however).
Needless to say - today I am all smiles and energized to keep going!

Well done! I have just started thinking about my halfway mark, which is still 8 pounds away. Still, the halfway mark is a great place to be! And you've already lost nearly 30 pounds, so good for you!

Hope you have a great shopping time and can find just the jeans!

And congratulations again on your achievement!

"Spoil Dinner"

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

I was reading a brief article by Dr. Oz about 5 ways to gain/maintain a healthy body. One of his recommendations was to spoil one's dinner by having a small healthy, fiber-filled snack late in the afternoon. He suggested a handful of almonds or something similar.
It reminded me of my mother's admonitions when I was little that I'd spoil my dinner, if I kept eating. Of course, I was trying to cadge an extra after school cookie back then...
I tried this today - had a Fiber One bar about 4:30 PM. It worked. I really wasn't hungry at dinner, but knew I needed to eat something. I didn't want to get hungry later in the evening. So, I had a small dinner, and I am FULL.
As this works for me, I'll definitely weave this into my routine.

I have read that is true, eat something or you get way too hungry. Thanks for the info.

It sounds like good advice to me. I have also heard a great way to not eat such a big dinner is to have a cup of soup an hour or so before. Not a creamy soup, a broth soup.
