Another long walk in BostonSunday, April 04, 2010
Took the "T" to Boston Commons around 11 AM. It was great to see all the people out - some in Easter finery, some in shorts, and everywhere in between. Lemonade vendors, nut vendors, ballon men - children playing in the dry Frog Pond. Strolled over to Boston Public Gardens - overheard a father telling his very young son about the midnight ride of Paul Revere (must have been in the spirit of upcoming Patriots' Day) in reference to the large statue in the park facing Commonwealth Avenue. Only problem was, the statue is of George Washington. I think the kid was too young to read; so no harm, no foul. Made me smile. I was disappointed the swan boats weren't running yet (next time). Walked up Commonwealth Avenue admiring the brownstones and the flowering trees in the sunshine. Turned by the cross street by the Prudential Center and ambled back down Newbury Street. Love all the specialty shops and sidewalk cafes. There was an all male folk dance group in the middle of the street in front of one of the church's. They had jingle bells ( a lot) on their shins - not sure the derivation of that. Stopped for lunch at P.F. Chang's. Split some infamous chicken lettuce wraps and feasted on Kung Pao Shrimp (ate about 2/3's). Walked back to Seaport District to burn off some calories ( about 4 miles today). What a glorious day! ![]()

Loved it. I did the same thing the week before. It is a wonderful city to walk in. Tell me, did you see any signs of The Easter Parade? Way back when I remember going to my aunt and uncles on Comm Ave and walking in the Easter Parade which amounted to everyone strolling down the park in their Easter finery. Hope you are enjoying your trip.

Enjoyed your blog. The description was like I was there taking a stroll through Boston. It has been 13 years since I have been there and I enjoyed "this visit" today. Have a great week! Report Inappropriate Comment |

This afternoon and evening I am in Boston. A friend and I took a great walk along the harbor and then headed over to Quincy Market late in the afternoon. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure, Quincy Market, in addition to being a hub of shopping has every delectable treat you can think of, artfully displayed to be as appealing as possible.
We admired the beauty of the food displays but resisted temptation (if only because it was so crowded and lines were l-o-n-g). We went outside and got a table at a restaurant called The Salty Dog. As I looked at the menu, concerned like so many restaurants the offerings would be fried or loaded with butter, etc., I found what they called Protein Power meals. Three different meals where the protein was steamed and served with steamed mixed veggies and coleslaw without mayo. They each were only 300 calories per meal. Perfect! I got the steamed scrod entree- delish. I was so pleased to be able to find a tasty, reasonable caloric meal and enjoy the ambience of Boston springtime - didn't feel I had compromised my experience at all. My only question is why don't more restaurants do this?

Sounds like a delightful day, and I think you had good weather for walking. Hats off to your resistance to temptation and to the Salty Dog for a great meal!

Wow, that seems almost too good to be true. Wish more restaurants would follow suit.
