A ghost opened the door.

Friday, December 05, 2014

Ah yes, Halloween and all the little ones coming with different costumes. Sure fun to see them but not fun to get up and down a thousand times to go to the door. Who ever said getting old was fun, well let me tell you it isn't. So each year as I get older and try to get up and answer a door bell that rings once, twice and maybe three times before I make it to the door, I wonder if one of these Halloween days there will be no me at the door. Life is a strugle and a lot of pain when you age. We were all kids once and know what it is like to wait for that day to come so we can go knocking at doors and see how much candy we can get. Nobody thinks of the old people who have to get up to open the door or the cost of the candy to buy.
We had over 80 kids and I got up so many times that night. I hurt but it was so nice to see the little faces smiling as they said, "Trick or Treat." One year I dressed up in a sheet and ghost mask and one little kid ran to his mom crying, "A ghost opened the door."

Memories stored are remembered.

Friday, December 05, 2014

I remember when I loved to send and receive xmas cards. Today, with the arthritic hands it is hard writing them so I decided to send to the ones that send me a card. I find since I have been doing this a lot of people receiving cards after they send have written on the card that they are not sending cards anymore because of the cost of stamps and cards. That is fine with me. I don't have to buy cards they come in the mail free with all the advertisment so I use them. Xmas was fun when I was young but now 8l and 6 months to 82 the joy has gone out of it with all the work it takes to make it a nice holiday. I am fortunate to not have to cook anymore a full meal, only make a few things as I go to my son's house and dil. We have the family xmas party, then xmas eve gathering and xmas day and being up in years you tend to tire quickly and do not enjoy staying late. But xmas come and go and with them we age another year. Memories stored are remembered for years to come.

If we could only turn the clock back.

How can you shop in stores anymore? If you think you are getting a bargain on Black Friday, think again. They jack up the prices before the time comes to allow for the discount on Black Friday and they are not loosing a penny. When I worked at Boston Baby, years ago, they used to jack up the prices during the months before a sale and then when the sale came the prices were the same before they started to jack them up. They are full of tricks, that is why a lot of people now buy online. For example, I did and never did before. I was looking for a humifier and Best Buy I think that was the store had it for 70.00, Target 60, and I went to Amazon and they had it, 27.l9 with no shipping costs. so why would anyone want to go to the store. Blairs, where I buy clothes have the same price as the stores, but you pay shipping costs and sometimes packaging costs. I can't believe how prices have shot up so much so quick. Today, it is all about making money and people with no income, who are not working anymore, or one person working, struggle to put food on the table or buy medicine. Children grow out of clothes so fast and even shoes and need new ones to go to school. Some people are fortunate to get hand me downs from friends or relatives. Whatever happened to the times, long ago, when we had batter where you exchanged something for something? I think living in yesterday was a lot better than today. Sure they have advanced with technology but look at the cost of it. Appliances do not last anymore. My washing machine was 20 years old and my frig is 20 and waiting for it to go. Today, they are computerized and if they break it cost you 300 for the part. You are better off buying a new machine which is what the dealers want. Now, if we could only turn the clock back.

The choice is up to you.

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

Did you know when you reach 50 you can join aarp? You get discounts in a lot of stores and restaurants. And as you age you get freebies, like arthritis, hip replacements, knee replacements, canes, walkers, etc. Why does it happen you ask? Lack of exercise. Nobody wants to take the time to do it. They have too many other things on their mind. Nobody wants to eat healthy. They don't have time so they go fast food. Well, you can still eat healthy with fast food. Take Burger King, do you have to go for the 2 for 5.00 sandwiches? Why not a broiled chicken sandwich and bring your own bread and just swap the chicken on it and get a small salad. Oh I know how good the fried food taste. Especially, those french fries, but did you know french fries have salt and salt dehydrates you? Did you know fried food gives you cholesterol and cloggs your arteries? We don't know when our time is coming, but that doesn't mean we should eat bad stuff. Ok, once in a while, but not a habit of it. If you want to live in your 80 range, then you better start to change your ways now before you may not make it. Life is what you make it. You can eat healthy and not have health problems or you can eat the wrong food and have a list of medications on your shelf, along with other ailments. The choice is up to you.

Why do we have to be frightened before we do something?

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

Why is it we are afraid to go for a mamogram? I have tried to tell my friends to go and get checked and they keep saying they are going, but never do. Don't they know they can get breast cancer? Don't they know that sometimes a lump can go undetected at the doctor's office? It happened to me. The doc gave me a clean bill of health. Well, in his mind it was clean because he felt no lumps, but the mamogram didn't lie when it showed cancer at the beginning, starting in the duck. Had I not gone for a mamogram the cancer would have probably spead to another part of my body and I might not be here today. I am not one for checking myself, and I know I should but after the doc not finding a lump that was not showing with his hands, I feel it could happen to me too, so I wait for the mamogram. The last one I took I sure was glad I knew how to pray. It was last April and I went in to get my mamogram and didn't expect to find anything again because the cancer was gone and I was 2 years free, so when the radiologist told me she had to take another and another and another in the breast that did not have the cancer, I became worried waiting in the waiting room. Then she came out and I figured everything was ok but I was wrong I had to go for an ultra sound as they found something and wanted to see if the ultra sound found it too. Well, I sure prayed to St. Anthony an Mary and Scared Heart. When I went in to see the surgeon she asked me why I had a worried look on my face. When I told her she said I was fine nothing showed up on the ultra sound. But I still worry because someone I care about just had an ultra sound and nothing showed up and she had a biopsy and they found breast cancer. She is only 4l with 2 small kids. The good part is that the cancer is in the duck and not spreading so she should be ok. I go again in April. I now don't have to go every 6 months and go once a year and I have two more years with the oncologist. Cancer is deadly and it can come back again. I wrote about a woman who had it again after l8 years in the lung. She did not die from it. She died from a fall. So listen to me and go for that mammogram. Take a few minutes in your life to check it out before you find it is too late. Cancer could be growing inside of your breasts and you may not know it. Wouldn't it be better to catch it at the beginning when your life has a better chance of being saved.
