No diet coke.........update

Monday, January 24, 2011

working on day # 17

It has been interesting on what I have learned. I have learned that I was not pysically addicted to the stuff but more "emotionally" addicted.

I do believe that I initially got the "caffine withdrawal" headache but I also was coming down with a bad headcold so it over shadowed the other. (headcold lasted about 8 days)

I realize that I really only miss my "diet coke fix" 1st thing in the morning. Just as coffee drinkers like to have that 1st cup of coffee......I loved my 1st diet coke of the day. Other than that...it really hasn`t been all that hard . I know also...that I was 'more than ready" to give it up....it was time.

I have also starting paying myself $1 for every day that I had no soda and that "kitty" has grown to $16 . My 43rd anniversary is June 4th so I will have a good amount of money to take my husband out for a nice dinner. Should have $115 by then.

I have noticed that my fingernails have grown stronger....a "huge plus" . I wasn`t even looking for this to happen but did discover it one day when I was filing my nails.

I have read an article on how bad "aspertame' is for you .If you are interested..........."google" 92 side effects of aspertame.

I have another article about how the diet soda may make you crave sweets. This one I was skeptical on...........but I can tell you with all honesty.........that my sweet tooth has diminished greatly....those cravings are gone. Kind of ironic because I was drinking diet soda instead of eating, to curb my appetite. I felt that I was "tricking" my body and mind into thinking that I was eating something. It was difficult to lose weight before but now with determination, healthy meals and exercize...I have EASILY lost 5# so far this month and expect to lose at least a 1 # or 2 more by the end of the week.

I am overjoyed with my progress and am convinced that the diet coke hindered my past efforts. I truly believe.............I have kicked the habit.......thank you GOD!! I can only give YOU the glory.

ugh... reading your progress over my morning diet coke. I'll get there someday. I know how bad it is, and how it hindered weightloss, and all that stuff. I just can't bring myself to do it yet. Congrats Mom, you're doing great! Talk to you in about an hour and a half. XOXOXO

I went clothes shopping in my own closet

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

I decided to clean out my closet yesterday (AGAIN) and get rid of the clothes that I have not worn and will not wear. I have a lot of pretty blouses which seems to be what I buy most and while I was sorting through them....I decided to at least try them on to make sure that I wanted to get rid of them.

While taking the time to do this ...I discovered that what I thought I was ready to discard ...fit me and looked nice.

Now a week ago, I had a bad clothes shopping experience and had dedicated to get these last 11# off before I tried it again. It was discouraging but it taught me to be even MORE "INTENTIONAL" to get to my goal.

I have been paying myself $1 for every day that I exercize and when I reached my goal...then I would go on a shopping spree.

Now, I may use that money for something else as I went shopping in my closet and I don`t need new clothes.

Being "INTENTIONAL"....day #10 ...NO diet soda..update

Monday, January 17, 2011

emoticon

I really feel VERY good about being able to finally kick the diet coke habit.

I know that it has only been 10 days but I truly have no desire to have any.

I also am aware that there may be times when I am tempted.... but just like a dope junkie or an alcoholic....I will treat my diet coke addiction in the same way. HMMMMMMMMM I wonder if there is a "HELP" line I can call and talk to a sponsor....LOL

Another bonus...I am paying myself $1 for every day that I am " diet coke free". I also do the same with "INTENTIONAL" exercize and between the 2..... I have saved $20 to date. My goal is to lose my last 11# by mid-May and to go shopping for new clothes with the money I have saved and certainly have earned.

Why mid-May? I have a 2 day TOPS convention (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) May 20th and it will be almost like a class reunion. I just rejoined TOPS again last June with an extra 10# to lose and I want them "gone" by the time the TOPS weekend will be here.

I want to look and feel my best and this is happening one day at a time...one pound gone at a time and one less diet coke at a time.

BTW...if you want more insight on "ASPERTAME"....just google...92 side affects of aspertame......very enlightening.

You are doing great there, keep it up. After a while you lose the taste completely. I never did like diet soda so it was cold turkey. I just drank water with lemon or lime in it. I do love iced tea, so I have to watch how much of that I drink but I always drink unsweetened.

Good for you on making it so far!!! May is not far away and you'll have the new clothes before you know it. Plus the pounds lost will be an added bonus.

Good for you kicking the habit, Callie. That was a tough one, I know. My hubby has the Diet Coke habit.

Great idea rewarding yourself with cash! I may have to do that. I see a shopping spree in our futures!

You TOPS Convention is great motivation to stay on plan. You can do it and WILL!

You're doing great. So proud of you!

Being "INTENTIONAL".....popcorn & a movie

Saturday, January 15, 2011

Husband and I went to see "TRUE GRIT" yesterday. It is a great movie if you are planning to see it.

I always know that he is going to order the large size popcorn with a free refill so as to not tempt myself.......I took carrots , bottled water and a raisin flatbread for myself. (I have a large purse to sneak them in with)

OH...that popcorn smelled good but I didn`t even have one bite. I knew if I would have ...I would have more and more. Popcorn does not fill me up, it is one of those foods that I could eat and eat and never get full on. ...just FATTER.

So, because I planned "intentionally" on what I was going to do.....I came away from the movie with another success. emoticon

BTW...He did get the large popcorn but did not refill it. We can keep the bag and take it back later when we go to another movie and get the 2nd refill.

Callie, that is great. I have the same problem. One taste and I am finished. I have to keep eating and eating. The best way is to not taste it.

Being "INTENTIONAL"...day #6....did it anyway

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

I`m S-T-R-E-T-C-H-I-N-G

I have a head cold and it sometimes drives me crazy. But today....I "intentionally" did my walking of 2 miles even though I didn`t feel well enough to . I stayed at home and put on a 1963 music cd and walked around my house to the beat of each song. I could only do it 20 minutes at a time. I did 20 minutes this morning and then 20 minutes in the evening. In fact I just got done and now I am coughing my head off. But...YAY!!! I did them.

I have learned about how important stretching is and it did work out a cramp in my calf yesterday when I was 10 minutes into my walking. I stopped and stretched my calf like I was taught when I use to back pack. You would think that I would have remembered this. So, now...I stretch BEFORE I walk and AFTER I walk. It really does stop my legs from hurting afterwards.

Good for you Callie! You did it!
But as Leslie says DON'T stretch before you walk, only after when muscle is warm or you might hurt it.
I can hear how proud you are of figuring out how to get that walk in.
BTW Leslie is calling me now!
