Sorry Hare - No Inspiration From You!

Sunday, September 22, 2013

No doubt many here have been where I'm at now. My eating has been off the rails pretty much all of the time. I do well for a few days then I lose sight of what I should be doing. Time to break it down to basics yet again.

My weight loss goal for this month is to lose weight - whatever the scale will give me, lol - but it's mostly to track my food each and every day. Consistency is the key.

I'd like to say that walking 5 days each week is another goal, but let's get real here...turtle pace, not rabbit... emoticon

Speaking of turtles...yesterday I watched a pretty good sized snapping turtle come from somewhere in our yard - I'm assuming it was from our pond, but not sure, it could have been the lake about 500 yards from us - and was taking note of something.

That turtle seemed to want to cross our rather sizeable yard to get to the large pond across the road. He was taking one step right after another, pausing only for a quick second to get a view of where he was by stretching his neck up above the grass.

It occurred to me as I was watching his progress that his consistency would take him to where he wanted to go, but do you know what he did? He went for quite a ways and then for some reason decided to turn around and head straight for our pond! emoticon

Watching him (or her) reminded me of something I seem to have forgotten emoticon

1) Consistency will get you where you want to be
2) Pause from time to time to evaluate what you're doing - will it get you where you want to be?
3) Don't be afraid to change your direction if you're not getting the results you're after

Or am I being silly?

What do you guys think? Anything we can learn from this turtle?

You are absolutely right! Slow and consistant change is the best way to change bad habits into good ones. It works!
Best wishes to you!

Update on Itchy Rash - Eczema?

Thursday, March 28, 2013

Finally broke down and went to another doctor (not my endo) about this lovely rash. She gave me a script for some cortisone cream which is a bit stronger than OTC stuff and told me to take Claritin (loratadine?) to help with the histamine reaction.

Within just a few days, praise God the rash started to clear up and on day one of taking the antihistamine the itching nearly stopped.

It's been a week today since I started this and the relief is very, very welcome!

What I still don't know, however, is what caused this allergic reaction. The doc said it looked like eczema to her, however she's not a dermatologist, so who can say. At the moment, however, all I care is, I'm no longer scratching like a demon. emoticon

I'll discuss all of this with my endo tomorrow. Of course since I was off of the thyroid meds for 2 weeks (and still saw no improvement in the rash) I will have to wait longer before she can do the bloodwork. Sigh.

I really don't like going to doctors, so I can't say if I'll see an allergist about the eczema. I don't want to be on Claritin for the rest of my life either, so if it comes back when I stop the antihistamine I guess I'll have to... emoticon

Oh well. Hope all of my sparkies are having a fantastic week and looking forward to the weekend!

I had what sounds like the same thing! but..I suspect that it a food allergy! triggering it but not from food but rather from a medicantion that the dr. doesn't want to change...medformin for my diabetes angain an antihistimaine works and a zanax to calm down the nerves! it works but here this.. the body can at times get use to all and any creams you use! mine istriamcinolene cream (not the opintment it is in a vaseline and can actually spread it! in the beginning I was treated for yeast infection on my skin (from diabetes) then I used a bacterial cream (not ointment and it went away over night! If I don't keep using the triam stuff it comes back. I think it is an allergy ! Pardon me here but I also can get it in my groin as I pee out the allergin murder at times sounds fab! good luck with yours GF! emoticon

Never Say Never

Friday, March 01, 2013

Funny thing. I determined that 2013 was THE year I was going to GET IT TOGETHER and GET HEALTHY!

What's funny you say? Be patient, this could take a bit. emoticon

I went to my GP at the end of last year to have my thyroid levels checked. I had been on 90 mcg for quite a while but still symptomatic.

Using just the TSH, mind you (you Hashi's out there know what I'm sayin') the doc boosted me up to 120. I felt much better in just a couple weeks time. Great!

Then came the 6 week follow-up.

Ugh. My TSH was "too low", so on that note she dropped me back down to 90 mcg.

Anyone see a problem here?

Yeah. Me too.

That's why I went to an endocrinologist (NP , not an MD).

She told me that TSH was not a good indicator when someone is on Armour Thyroid - which I am - and ran Free T3 and T4.

Now, I'm up to 150 mcg and feeling much better. Not perfect, but much, much better.

Long story short, at the same time my endo ran the thyroid labs, I asked her to check for a gluten allergy.

She, unfortunately, only ran 1 test, which came back negative. Common, I've been told.

Now to the "funny" part.

At the beginning of the year, I developed a rash that has lasted for 2 months. I was thinking it might be Dermatitis Herpetiformis, but it could also be eczema too.

I've been hoping it will go away, but no such luck. I've just started using hydrocortisone and am hoping it will take care of the issue and using Nivea for my extremely dry skin.

Anyway, I'll be seeing the doc at the end of this month and maybe she will know what I can do about this rash. I really don't want to see a dermatologist unless I have to. Enough with doctors!

As for my weight?

I NEED accountability. I CANNOT do this on my own.

That's why I'm eating "McDougall style" (a/k/a low fat vegan) and tracking via weight watchers points plus.

I'm not giving up and I'm glad to see so many of my sparkfriends still plugging away.

I'm making an effort to blog every day. Hoping it will help!

Trial and error, but eventually it will all work out. I hope.
But I hear you on too many doctors. I see an NP. She's not an endo, but she works with me on my hypothyoid. I really don't need more doctors...

Hope the Doc gets rid of the rash. Keep up your journaling.

Inspiration in the Weirdest Places!

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Lot to do today, but wanted to share an inspirational video with everyone.

I recently discovered "Bond" - 4 beautiful, talented girls who play beautiful music.

It's kind of hard to put it into words, but I'll try.

Here's where the inspiration part comes in. The beautiful women in this video, wearing exquisitely designed garb (don't know the traditional word for what they're wearing - sari's?) move so gracefully and really "show" their femininity.

I'm inspired to get healthy, drop this weight and look that good in beautiful clothes! Since I work from home I don't have to "dress up" to get the job done - jeans and a sweater work just fine, but watching these women, I'm reminded of how great it feels to dress beautifully - how "feminine" I feel when I'm in heels and a skirt, etc.

Anyone else relate to what I'm sayin'?

Here's the video link

If Talk is Cheap Then I'm a Millionaire!

Monday, October 08, 2012

Talk is cheap, and boy can I talk. And talk. And talk....yeah, you get the picture. emoticon

Putting talk into action, well, let's just say that it's "not my strong suit".

Last week is a tracking, no exercising...

I know I can do this - I've done it before (well, not all the way to goal, but I KNOW I can do this)

One meal at a time.

Father...I've prayed to You so many times about losing weight it's not funny. I know You have given me the desire to take care of this temple, and I know that you'll be there when I call on You. Please help me remember to call on You and Your strength those times that I am weak.

In the name of Your precious Son and My Blessed Redeemer, amen.
