Chip, chip, chip, chip

One little bit of weight at a time. Today I am down 0.4lbs, and yesterday I was down 0.2lbs. Two new minimums in two days makes me feel pretty good. 6 more pounds until I reach my next goal.

The weird bit I have been eating and tracking after. This is what I believe I would have eaten anyway (and as anyone looking at my food tracker can see, I am not exactly living on rabbit food). Of course, cognitive bias being what is, maybe just knowing I'll have to write down what I ate steers me towards healthier choices.

Hopefully tonight I can finally get my weight lifting in. I tried on Tuesday; but I had a migraine coming on, and partway through the second set of squats I felt like I was going to throw-up and/or faint. So, I stopped. Stupid migraines.

I found the same "cognitive bias" happening for me too - I do have a mental dialogue of " Do I really want to have to record that I ate XXX?". It is a greater conciousness of what I am putting into my mouth (and how much) that has really helped me reach the point I am at.

Congrats on your progress!!

February Blues

Monday, March 01, 2010

February was pretty disappointing weight loss wise. While my new lowered appetite kept me from gaining much weight, I spent the whole month bouncing around a few pounds above 224, and finally today I dropped back down to the same weight I was January 31st. Looks like just following my appetite isn't working anymore! So, time to start tracking again.

In the good news department, I finally found my missing swimsuit yesterday, so I am going to try to go swimming at least once this week. I love swimming so much, I can go and happily swim laps for an hour straight and still want more.

While I am still trying to lose weight, I am making my real long term goals be fitness related. I want to be able to squat, bench-press an dead-lift my own body weight and I really want to participate in some long distance swimming races, i.e. 3k, 5k or 10k swims. The later will be hard for me, since I'll need to find a swimming buddy so I can practice swimming in open water.

Still unemployed; but I have an interview today.

First goal reached

Sunday, January 31, 2010

My first goal was to lose 12.3lbs, which would reduce my BMI to below 40, making me no longer morbidly obese.

Friday, I was at 225.3lbs, just 0.4lbs away from my goal. Saturday morning I woke up to a disappointing 1.8lb gain; but this morning, I was down 2.9lbs! 224.2lbs! I have now lost 13lbs.

My next goal is 217.5, at which point I will weigh less than I did when I got my wii fit almost a year ago.

New Foods

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

I have been making an effort to try new foods this year. So far I have tried okra, kale and sardines.

Sardines I really think have been the most successful. I got all four varieties I could find, in lemon sauce, in mustard sauce, in soya oil and in spring water. All but the latter have been eaten. I didn't enjoy the one with mustard sauce. I am trying to think of what to do with the remaining one. So far I have had sardines on toast, sardines tossed with pasta and cheese, and a toasted sardine sandwich with cheddar.

The kale I made into colcannon which was very tasty. I should get some more and try something else with it though.

The okra I lightly friend with onions and peppers and then added a can of tomatoes.

Where did you go?

Friday, January 15, 2010

Don't worry, I haven't quit, I just decided to shift my program a little.

I was finding it hard to eat as many calories as sparkpeople was recommending for me. Even trying to snack on calorie dense things likes nuts and cheese wasn't helping. And I wasn't losing weight. So, I switched to intuitive eating. i.e. eating what I felt like as much as I felt like. Obviously within reason, as there is a part of me that says cheesecake is always a good idea! And I lost another pound!

Part of what is going on I think is that with my sleep apnea being treated, as the effects of years of bad sleep slowly fade away, my appetite is 'normalizing'. I think my appetite is finally an accurate measure.

My plan is to continue eating this way until I have four sequential days of gaining weight, at which point I'll start tracking my food to make sure I am not doing anything foolish.
