Doing this again...

Tuesday, March 04, 2014

Yes I derailed for a while, but I'm back. Tracking is easy and extremely helpful. Walking on the treadmill this past week hasn't been difficult. I really need to add a workout, currently that is my goal. I'll get there. I feel like I have made progress already. emoticon

Getting Better!!

Monday, July 15, 2013

So excited this morning. I just got my A1C numbers back for the last three months....went down from 7.3 to 6.2! I credit SparkPeople and the nutrition tracker for my success! I started Spark in mid-May. Thanks so much! Goal is to reach the 5's for next test in October! emoticon

Holiday Derailment!

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

The past holiday wasn't the best for exercise or food. Running a business that involves tourist trade made the holiday hard to manage. I had take out a few times and didn't exercise enough. On the plus side, the shop did really well and it was a good weekend.

I didn't let it slow me down however. I tried to make good choices and with the nutrition tracker I knew where I was screwing up. I am also back on track with a grocery store shop for healthy snacks (ran out of fruit) and well planned meals.

Exercise was also lighter this past weekend. There was movement around the shop, but I was pretty much stuck at the counter. But I've already done 1.3 miles with the dogs this morning and got back just before the rain started. I plan on trying resistance bands today.

I know it was the way holidays are going to be around here. Next time I need to plan better meals to take to work and maybe have an extra something frozen in the freezer at work. Why didn't I think of that before! Never thought to take a meal into freezer at work! Wow - thanks blog!

Until next time - when I'm a few pounds lighter! M!

Nutrition tracker will help!

Friday, May 17, 2013

Wow - I'm really bad at nutrition! This tracker will help me get a handle on everything. It has been a very stressful week for a number of reasons, but this program is a an eye opener! I thought I was eating well (except for this week), but now I have a lot to learn!

I actually did over 10000 steps today!! That was amazing!

At the starting gate...

Sunday, May 12, 2013

Ok, it's Mother's Day, my birthday is in a few days - 56 - and I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 1 1/2 years ago. I can't seem to get my blood levels right with meds, I really need to do this for me! My husband and I own two small businesses and work 7 days a week to keep our heads above water. It seems life is always a struggle. We live in a beautiful area but never get to enjoy it because we are always working or too tired. I want to change so much, but getting my health in order is top on my list - can't forget bills however. Somehow I'm going to find a balance.
I love that I found this site. the food tracker is awesome! I have needed someone to help me with what foods I should eat and not. This looks like it will help in that area.
My medical group has never told me to test my blood, currently I only get the test in the office every 3 months, but I feel I need more. We haven't had health insurance for years, but applied and it should have kicked in May 1st. Maybe now I can get some answers to my questions.
I also started the ap 'Moves' on my phone. It keeps track of my steps - that is really cool. I downloaded the Sparkpeople ap too. I'm gonna make this work!

emoticon Little changes are more manageable and easier to stick with. Consistency is the important part.

You CAN do this. Just like you did with your business, you need to put yourself as priority or you won't be around to reap the benefits of your hard work. Balance and moderation are key.

Reading your blog I could relate to you in so many ways. I hope that prioritizing your health will bring you much success and thank goodness you have health insurance as you most definitely need to test your blood sugar levels daily.

I too am type 2, and for a year before that was labeled pre-diabetic. Diet alone did not help, exercise some, but after a year of pills I was placed on insulin. Now with doing exercise, eating healthier and taking my insulin my blood sugar levels are better, most days within normal range. It is a complex disease to manage, but do-able. I wish nothing but the best for you.

In managing other aspects of your life, seems when I came to Spark and started being accountable to myself with my tracker, everything else fell into place over time. I found I began to better organize my time and plan out my day and duties without depriving myself of what I need to do to improve my health. I hope in time it will do the same for you. Life is a struggle, and all we can do is our best and believe in God's promise that He will never forsake us and will always be there for us. I will pray that God will lift you up and lighten your load, and surround you with love, support and encouragement.

I will add you as a spark friend, as I would be honored to share in your journey. Wishing you a wonderful Mother's Day. emoticon
