Slow & Steady

Sunday, April 28, 2013

I just finished reading Chapter 8 of the Spark. I'm really happy with the way things are going so far. I was a little worried because I had soda at Sea World on Friday. I took 3 bottle of water with me but it was really hot and went through it fairly quickly. All the walking must have helped with the calories though because I lost another 2 lbs this week!

I'm slowing changing the foods in our house to healthy options. We can't afford to just get rid of everything and bring in new but I haven't been buying "junk" food. Once it's gone it's gone. I don't think the kids have noticed yet. lol Either that or they don't care. I'm glad that I have always encouraged them to eat fruits and veggies anyhow, it makes the transition alot easier.

I've found that I have been using the "I've been too busy" excuse alot lately when it comes to getting my exercise so I'm going to focus on that this week. I didn't do to great with my goals last week so I'm going to work on them more this week. We also got a weight bench so I'm going to start working with that too.

My goals for this week are:
Drink 8 cups of water
10 mins of exercise
5 Fruits & Veggies
Eat Breakfast
7-8 hrs of sleep
Write in a blog post

I'm also going to look at my long term goals again as some things have shifted.

First goal completed!

Monday, April 15, 2013

I haven't posted a blog post in a couple days because I haven't turned my computer one which is a good thing!! I accomplished my first week of not drinking any sodas and have been doing great with my water. It may seem like a small achievement but for someone who drank nothing but coke all day long, I feel like I climbed a mountain. LOL

I read Chapter 6 of The Spark last night and have set my Fast Break Goals for this week. I'll continue my no sodas habit and have added these daily tasks:
*Eat some sort of fresh produce
*Exercise for 10 mins
*Read a motivational story or book.

If I complete all my goals every day I will be rewarding myself with $5 in my new wardrobe fund. I started this fund to go shopping on my birthday about a year from now, since I am positive I will be in need of new clothes for the new me :)

I did my weekly weigh in today and I'm down only 1 lb from last week but I'm not discouraged because I know it will shed off a little at a time and my goal is 50 lbs by next year so even at a lb a week I'll still reach my goal :) I also took my measurements for the first time so can't wait to see those numbers change also!

Chapter 4 The Spark: Fire

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Once again The Spark feels like it was written just for me. In Chapter 4 Chris talks about keeping your fire going even when you have set backs. Well I certainly had a set back today. It included stress and jelly beans! BUT I didn't let it turn into a downward spiral, I stuck to my first streak goal of No sodas, consumed my 8 cups of water and read another chapter in The Spark.
I didn't get to walk home from school with my son today because I ended up subbing at one of the schools so I plan to get up tomorrow morning and walk to school with him also to make up for the walk I missed today. So on that note my behind is headed to bed to make sure I have the energy at 7am.

Chapter 3 of The Spark: Fitness

Tuesday, April 09, 2013

I feel like I'm already succeeding in my healthier lifestyle. Today I completed my 3rd day streak of reading a chapter a Day of the Spark and my second day of no sodas!! Oddly I didn't read the 3rd chapter until tonight but I started my fitness today. My oldest son walks to and from school so I decided to meet him this afternoon and walk home with him. I took our pitbull with me so that he could get some excercise also, he is full of energy and rarely gets enough out during the day. We walked a mile and a half. Which for me is a huge accomplishment because I have never really excersized. My son is 14 and at a very difficult stage and he actually told me tonight that he would like if I meet him tomorrow also. Today seems like a great day! Happy dog, Happy teen and Happy mom!! emoticon

Chapter 2 of the Spark: Setting Goals

Monday, April 08, 2013

Chapter 2 of the Spark was a really good one for me. I tend to try to do so many things that I don't really accomplish a whole lot. I have good intentions but you know how it can be when you over extend yourself. So the subject of goal setting is a great one for me. Goals will give me a "Finish Line" to strive towards. Accountability is a big part of keeping goals so I thought my first step would be to post them in my first blog post. I'm sure as I grow my goals will change a little or I will just accomplish them and need new ones but for now here they are.

My Long-Term Goals
*Live a Healthy Lifestyle
*Be an active member of my church.
*Provide my children with the tools they need to be productive citizens.
*Start a Non-Profit "clubhouse" for teens.

My Medium Term Goals
*Lose 50 lbs by 3/26/14
*Plan inexpensive & Free Activities for Teens.

Short Term Goals
*Drink 8 Glasses of Water a day
*Eliminate Sodas & Candy
*Exercise in some way every day.
*Survey Teens about interests
*Research starting a Non Profit
*Lead my children by example
