Shamrock Half Virginia Beach & Emotional Decisions

Saturday, March 23, 2013

It's been crazy for me since my Shamrock Half last Sunday. It was a bittersweet half. I went to Virginia Beach with my running buddy and met up with other girls in our running group who had left the day before. The drive there was long and eventful. On Sunday it was extremely cold. My Achilles tendon has been hurting and was hurting that morning so I decided to do intervals if I started to feel really sore. I started running the first 4 miles. After that I went into intervals for the next 6 miles. I ran a mile and walked 2-3 tenths of a mile. At mile 10 I decided to run the entire last 5 k. My run was awesome in one sense and bittersweet an another. I started it off feeling really emotional. My goal was to finish between 2:28-2:30. I finished in 2:30:05 seconds. The winds were strong and cold. I had a great time with the group in general but had a hard time with the girl I went up with. I've been contemplating dropping her as a friend for the past year but have tried to tolerate her selfish behavior and rudeness. She had tantrums over her phone dying at the beginning of the run and started to get rude with me over it, was upset because we went to the beer tent and it wasn't what she wanted to do, was upset because the majority wanted pizza (9 out of 10 girls) and she had pizza the day before so she wanted to go somewhere else. She just stormed off and left to the room without telling anyone.I spent a full 24 hrs dealing with that behavior. I got so emotional before the race because of her behavior beforehand and after the race because of the same. It got to a point where I just started to cry. It's really hard for me to be mean to people even when they are. I tried so hard to be her friend. Then when I got back to the room she insisted on leaving right then and there. It was 1:00 in the afternoon and we were supposed to leave after dinner. I obliged her AGAIN. It was hard during the drive because I was just at a point where I couldn't take it anymore. I decided so that I wouldn't be rude or confrontational I would just sleep through the drive. I came home and was so upset my husband was concerned. I told him about her behavior. He stated that I have complained before about her rudeness to me and he had even witnessed it once himself and told me I should probably distance myself from her. After a lot of thinking and praying I called her on Wednesday and told her that I could no longer be her friend because friends are supposed to be uplifting to each other and she makes me feel emotional constantly. She demanded specifics and raised her voice. She wanted to know exactly what she did wrong. She's entitled of course but it was the way she went about asking. I told her that one of the problems is exactly how she was reacting right now on the phone. I also told her if she said that to me I would have asked her "how can I save our friendship" rather then responding so rudely and yelling. It pains me to loose a friend. I've never been put in that type of situation. I feel like when I run and am around friends I am supposed to feel joyous and that has not been the case with her. She's lost many friends just this year alone and I think that's why I put up with it for so long. But once someone gets me to a point that I cry in public It is over!

So although I enjoyed my time with all the other girls, I feel that my trip was spoiled by someone else's selfishness. I know I made the right decision but it still bothers me that I will lose a friend I've known for 3 years now.

So sorry she ruined your day, sweetie. Some people are clueless, and you'll be better off without her in your life. On a positive note, my sister lives in Va Bch, and I've been wanting to do the Shamrock. Any event that lets me see family works for me. Maybe we could do it together next year?

5%Challenge

Saturday, March 02, 2013

So today I weighed myself and came in 1.3 lbs over from last week. Bummer emoticon Why? Because I only ran 1 day, didn't exercise at all during the week, and due to traveling for work I ate out 4 days all of my meals.

Today I ran 5 miles. Because I have pain in my Achilles tendon I did intervals. I ran 1 mile then walked about a .10 of a mile. It started to snow during the run. It was cold but so beautiful emoticon

I will be running the Shamrock Half on St. Patty's day in Virginia Beach so I need to step up my training this week.

MY goals:

Run 2 more days this week. emoticon
Hydrate well emoticon
Go to the 9 Round gym 2 times emoticon
Eat as clean as possible atleast twice a day emoticon

My weight gain is due to my eating habits. I have the tools to succeed now I need to implement them.

Although not a runner, I am trying to walk with Leslie Sansone every day. Sometimes that is difficult.
Thanks for your word of encouragement, it is greatly appreciated.

My first 10 Mile Race

Sunday, February 24, 2013

You know your a runner when you get up at 5:00 a.m. to run a race in the pouring rain. I sure did and so did most of my running group girls that signed up for the race. I ran my first 10 miler yesterday. It was pouring rain and cold as heck but I still wanted to do it because it was part of my Shamrock Half training. My goal was to finish in just under 2 hrs. I hoped at 1:55 minutes since my last 10 mile training was at 1:56 minutes. emoticon I was soaked by the time the race started. Wouldn't you know it that about a half mile in it stopped pouring and only drizzled somewhat. emoticon So I ran soaked and wet for 10 miles. It was a hard race. It started in town and was a run into the McMullen Creek in Charlotte. It was muddy, slippery, and nasty out to say the least. I didn't let that stop me though. At about 5 miles into the race I started to feel a slight hip pain and calf tightness. I stepped my pace down slightly but didn't give up. When I got to about 8.5 miles there was a biiiiigggg hill. Yup it was big. I tried running up it since most of my training runs are in places with hills but because of my hip I ended walking up it. Once I was up I started running again and then there came the next hill emoticon GEEZ! Well I continued to run after that and finished as planned. My goal was to try and stay within 11:00-11:05 minute miles through the entire run even at the finish line.

Results:

SONIA ROBINSON 10 Miler 45 F 150 1:49:49.74 10:58/mile

I not only exceeded my goal but I surpassed it by over 5 minutes. emoticon

I probably would have come in at about 1:45 minutes had I not taken the walk break for that huge hill. emoticon

I am so proud of me. Well I will say that I spend the rest of the day sleeping it off. Man I felt like I had been hit by a mack truck yesterday. emoticon

Great job! I actually love running in the rain, as long as it isn't too cold...but maybe not for my first 10 miler!

I'm going to try to do a 10 mile run sometime this spring, and then a half marathon in the fall. My longest run lately is 6.5 miles. You'll have to give me some tips!

Congrats! You must feel great about that accomplishment!

My Story Book 10 mile run

Saturday, February 16, 2013

I went for a 10 mile group run today. It started off as a chilly but not very cold morning. It was raining some. About a mile into the run it started to snow. It was wet snowflakes so it wasn't sticking. I've never run in the snow. And although technically as a person who grew up in the north I would not call it snow,, just wet snowflakes it was absolutely beautiful. Picture this:

It's raining during your run and suddenly snowflakes start to come down, as you are running your are looking at all the beautiful sights of the neighborhood you are running in. The weather is about 25 degrees. Yes, 25! But it doesn't feel cold out. So imagine then running into this:

Yes the tree is blooming.

Only in the beautiful Carolina's can you see something so amazing. I felt as if I was reading a story out of a good book. What's more amazing is that I did my 10 miles in 1:51:22. My goal was 2 hours. emoticon
