Thank You!

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

Sparkpeople has been a great part of my success. I think it is because I have people with like goals and interest to mine. Though none of my Sparkfriends know me personally, it seems they want me to succeed. I know I want them to succeed! I like sharing in the excitement when they reach a milestone. Here you don't get mocked for posting "Headed to the gym" or "Just ate a delicious low-cal meal" it is celebrated. The positive energy here is contagious. Even when I feel off track, I also feel like I can succeed. When I reach my goals, I will have all my sparkfriends to thank. The inspiration, support and helpful advice has contributed to every pound I've lost and will continue on to every pound I will lose. emoticon So thank you to all my sparkbuddies! May your journeys be filled with love and support. emoticon

Happy Sunday

Sunday, June 23, 2013

Wishing everyone a happy Sunday. I have had a great morning and am hoping to share the positive energy. I woke up feeling energized, went to workout and am feeling euphoric now. The nice "high" after an intense workout. Hopefully, nothing will spoil my good mood. Certainly not having a Harry Potter marathon on ABC Family emoticon Today is going to be such a good day.

Feeling Good

Friday, June 21, 2013

I went to my gym to exercise and I haven't been there in a while. I've been swimming a lot. However, I pay for the gym membership every month so I figured I would go. I walk in and the owner of the gym says "Wow! Have you lost weight?" I grinned the entire time I was working out, and it wasn't just because I was watching Melissa & Joey, lol. It was a nice feeling. I have been eating above my calorie range but I also have been burning more than the suggested calories. I realized while following the calorie range suggested by SP, I was feeling tired and irritated. Now, I am feeling recharged! I easily burned 1000 calories on the elliptical, something I haven't had the energy to do. I haven't even had the energy to make it to the gym most days, until the higher calorie intake. I need to find the balance, I know that, but right now I'm just feeling good.

Travelling Advice

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

I am about to take a trip, again, and I prefer not to repeat last week. This trip is 4 1/2- 5 hours one way, we are staying for at least 2 days maybe 3, and then making the 4 1/2-5 hour trip back home. Any tips on staying on track? How do I control portions on the go? What about for meals while we are away from home?

I don't know what your situation is going to be while traveling but we have traveled a bit and we always get a room with a frig and microwave. I like to eat every three hours so when we get to our destination I always buy a couple of yogurts (depending on long you will be there), some Quaker Real Medleys (oatmeal, for the microwave), tuna packs with the mayo included, some fruit and nuts. That way I always have something handy, and not all of it needs to be refrigerated or cooked...such as the tuna or the fruit - so you can carry it with you.

When we eat out (which we do more frequently than most people - even when we are not traveling) we try to pick places that have nutritional values posted on-line. That way I can pick what I am going to order before we go. If that is not an option, I make sure to eat no more than a third of the portions that they bring, I always order the smallest (like a six ounce sirloin instead of a 12 ounce), and I always order veggies on the side instead of any other sides. You might need to ask them not to put butter on them. I frequently order salmon while out. A favorite eatery for us is Panera...while it is not a fancy place, I can order off the hidden menu and get low carb good healthy eating. I also enjoy their strawberry poppyseed salad, which is pretty low in calories.

If you will be visiting people and eating at their home, just take small portions of most of the food except for salads and veggies. If you tell people you are watching what you eat, most of them are pretty understanding and won't push food on you.

Good luck!

I know how hard this is. Travelling to Iowa, I know every minute is going to be a battle with food and portions. The worst is trying not to insult people with you go to their house to eat. What I try to do on the plane is pack protein bars. They keep me full and away from the chocolate candy in the airport. If it's only 3 days, don't stress over it too much. Eat the local delicacies and enjoy your time. Remember, you can always swap sides at a resturant with a healthier option or get a salad with dressing on the side. I recently did this and I was amazed by how little of hte dressing I actually used (less than 1/4) just by dipping my fork in it before stabbing my salad.

Good luck and have fun!

Stumble, Stumble, Stumble...*sigh*

So the past week was incredibly busy for me and included really early mornings. emoticon I'm not a morning person. A friend of mine asked me to help out with Vacation Bible School, and I agreed even though I am NOT a Christian. I had to be there by 8:30 am, I'm usually just waking up around 8, lol. Since we only have one car I had to wake up before 6 am to get ready, get Liam ready, drive hubby to work, etc. I didn't really have time to make breakfast so we ate out a lot this week. Not just for breakfast either. My little step-brother is visiting, too. We went to the Space Rocket Center in Alabama this weekend (was incredibly fun), which was even more fast food. Not to mention Father's Day. Since I had already fell off the wagon, I just caved in. Seems my good sense went out the window this week. No exercise and lots of fast food. emoticon I'm way of track, BUT I know that I can and will get back on track. Starting with today, and tracking my food again. emoticon I may go over my calories but at least it will be a start in the right direction...I went up 5 lbs last time I stepped on the scale (I'm hoping it was water weight), I am a little afraid to get back on the scale. I know I can do this!!! emoticon emoticon

You got this! We all have bad weeks. Mine is usually the week leading up to "My week." When I start craving things I know it's hormonal now and I allow myself to give in a bit and I don't beat myself up over it because it'll be better the following week. It's one of those things us women have to deal with unfortunately.

It's good that you started tracking again. I've found that I completely fall off the wagon if I go longer than 3 days without tracking. I got the SP app to avoid this on the weeks which is when I typically stay away from the computer and forget to track. The app has helped keep me focused for sure.

You're doing great!

PS. I love your backdrop (I emoticon Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
