This is my bestest friend in the world.
Her name is Diane. Tomorrow, Diane moves to England for 8 months. The other side of the world for more than half a year! Since, without exagerating, Di is my only real friend, I'm not sure what I am going to do for 8 months. I have 'friends' who I hang out with from time to time, but the only person I see on a regular basis and who knows all my secrets is Di.
In other news
I went for a 5.25K run this evening. Did it is 45 minutes (although I did stop my watch for 30 seconds while I stopped at a drinking fountain... I am told this is general practice), which is 5 minutes faster than my last time for the same route. YAY! And I only stopped to walk around 4 times. YAY! My 5k is in less than 3 weeks, and if I can do it in 45 minutes I will be very happy! I wore my heart rate monitor and it said I burned DOUBLE the calories spark said I burned. That was surprising, and I am glad I got the HRM so I can have a better idea of how many calories I am burning. Oh, and I have been asked by Carla (HI HUN!) if it has a chest strap, and yes, it does. More accurate, I'm told.
Today I didn't go to work, because it is Anzac day. Back to it tomorrow, starting with having my reading tumble observed by a literacy expert. Talk about nerve racking! I am the first in the school to be observed, because no one else wanted to go first so I ended up saying "Oh for goodness sake, I'll do it then!". After I post this I have to go and tidy up my planning and make sure I'm 110% ready.
And because I am one thing short, I will tell you that even though I love Greys Anatomy and it is my favourite show, I can't stand the sight of real blood, and I am forever grateful for the sickbay, who have people less scared of blood than me to deal with my children. They are rough and tumble kiddos, and I get bloody knees in my class a few times a week!

I wore my new hrm to boxing today, and was surprised to discover that the spark estimate was 150 calories more than what I have actually been burning! Ah well, now I know.
speaking of boxing, I did no less than a million squats during tonights class. We did a pyramid: 100 jabs x3, then 10 squats. 80 jabs, 8 squats. You get the idea. When I was pad holder I did squats too, to keep my heart rate up. My legs kill and I am worried about walking tomorrow.
the stupid scale, as it is affectionately known, says I am up 1.3kg, which is my total weight loss for the month. I am blaming the Chinese food we had on Saturday and am chugging water like it is my job. Or maybe my body is getting ready for a nice, big loss. Yeah, ima pretend that is it.
first day back at work went well. The kids were a little rowdy and have forgotten how to be at school, but I'm sure they will be fine in a few days. Tomorrow we are making Anzac poppies using our handprints. I will post a picture on here tomorrow, if they aren't a disaster! I have tried it, and it does work, but putting paint in the hands of 23 semi rowdy children may end up in more paint being on walls and clothes than on paper... We shall see! Ah well, it will be more fun than coloring in.
Wish me luck!

I had a conversation today that really made me mad. Like, 10 hours late I am still annoyed, kinda mad.
Nana came over today, as she does on Fridays to do the cleaning (bit of extra money for her). And she tells me that she has been to the doctor (we have the same doctor) and he has given her weight loss advice.
Bear in mind this is the man who I gave diet advice to after he told me he was going on Jenny Craig, and he is a GP, not a nutritionist. I'd also like to take this moment to point out that, percentage wise, I have lost more than him in the same time frame, because when I go in he weighs himself and we compare progress.
Anyways, carrying on. He is on this great diet and Nana is going to do it too. It's low carb, she said. He eats nothing but fruit all day, and then at night he has a stir fry. Oh, and he eats whatever he wants on the weekend. Oh My Giddy Aunt, I was horrified that first of all a DOCTOR eats like this, and he is advising his patients to do the same!
I gave nana a bit of a crash course in nutrition. The following points were covered
- Of course you will lose weight eating that, it isn't enough food!
- It isn't low carb, fruit is full of carbs
- It is very high in (natural) sugar
- There isn't enough variety
- No dairy? She is 72, that is just asking for a broken bone!
- Carbs are not evil. In fact, I love carbs. I'd marry a loaf of hot from the over ciabatta bread if it were legal.
I told her that it was not good advice and that she should see a nutritionist. OR write down everything she eats for a week and I would go over it with her and help her workout her calories and where she can make improvements. But I don't know anything, because I am young, so losing weight is soooo easy and I can't possibly understand. Oh, and I'm not a doctor who gives terrible advice! Grrr

My classroom looked like a bomb had hit it at the end of term. I took an entire week off to regroup, and have been spending most of this week at school, tidying up and getting my walls ready for this term.
More colour around my desk thanks to some cards with the days of the week and the months in English and Maori.
A new boarder around the whiteboard.
ANZAC Day is Wednesday. We are going to make poppies to put on the wall (I was going to use paper, but now I am thinking about using paint and doing hand print ones... Why, oh why, do I make my life so difficult!)
Our next topic is animals, so I have named the unit 'Where the wild things are'. Yes, I am just a big kid.
Just some display space
Whew, that was a lot of work. I have a hand cramp from using the staple gun too much!
I am taking tomorrow and the weekend off, ready to leap back into it on Monday!
In other news, as of 2 minutes ago I am the proud owner of an unwanted, never been used heart rate monitor. I shouldn't be this excited about this, but I am. Best part - $35!
